right then, i hate mobile phones. Lets get that out of the way upfront, i dont have my own I only have a work one. Work have now banned text messages, photo's and internet however so it looks like i will have to get my own.

Everyone at work says Iphones are shite so i thought i would ask you lot, anything i need to know? How much data allowance would i need to be able to watch footie on my phone? (I have skygo)

iPhones really, really aren't shite. The new 4S is easily the best product on the market, but it's damn expensive whether you buy it outright or get it on contract. Plus the 5 is imminent. Probably they meant the Blackberry is shite and that would be true. So somewhere in between is the Galaxy.

Orange 36 on the iPhone 4 (not 4S) isn't a bad deal. A free iPhone 4, 600 mins, 3000 texts and 500MB data for £36 per month.

WiFi is free, doesn't eat into the allowance and there are plenty of hotspots available now. Certainly beats reading copies of magazines from 2007 in the doctor's waiting room. In fact there's an app to diagnose your illness which saves you going in the first place. Plus the iPhone is pretty rugged so you can use it to bash your teeth out which saves on trips to the dentist too. You can't do that with a Blackberry.

I upgraded to a 4S a couple months back after using the 3GS for nearly 2 years, that was an awesome bit kit. Happy with my 4S so far, it's pricey but I guess iPhone users are bound to eat up a lot of data.

My brother has the Galaxy S2, which is fantastic as well. It's certainly the best iPhone alternative out there.

Depends what you want to do. If you want to browse one page web sites that only have one word on them, 750MB will be fine. If you want to watch video then 750MB will give you an irritating taster of what you are missing.

Just use WiFi. Do you really need to be plugged into the Internet when you are on a crowded train or taking a crap in a public toilet (there are much bigger issues that Internet connectivity when it comes to public toilets).

You want a good 600mins talk and 3000 texts (fairly standard) and forget about data unless you want a silly bill every month. WiFi is free and there are plenty of suckers who don't know how to secure their networks.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the Galaxy Nexus Prime! Best phone on the market at the moment, even better than the iPhone... only phones on the radar to beat it are the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3 sometime later in the year.

Also comes as a vanilla build, so no network operator (or phone manufacturer bollocks installed... and no waiting for system updates etc)
