Never understood why Lerner wanted him in the first place, sack of shite. Bet they go after Martinez again
I think Di Matteo will be kept on at Chelsea regardless. Dalglish wants to stay, doesn't he? Liverpool won't have the heart to sack him. 'Arry has nowhere to go. Should be interesting to see if any of the more established clubs put a big money contract on the table for Rodgers or that Norwch guy, but as I say I don't think there'll be a lot of movement at the top. Mancini has earned his stay now. Newcastle are happy with Pardew.

Aston Villa can confirm that Alex McLeish's contract has been terminated with immediate effect.
The club has been disappointed with this season's results, performances and the general message these have sent to our fans.
The board wishes to assure supporters that we are conscious in every sense that Villa expects and deserves more and we will strive to deliver this.
Villa chairman Randy Lerner said: "We need to be clear and candid with ourselves and with supporters about what we have lacked in recent years.
"Compelling play and results that instil a sense of confidence that Villa is on the right track have been plainly absent.
"The most immediate action that we can take is to look carefully at our options in terms of bringing in a new manager who sees the club's potential and embraces our collective expectations."
Chief Executive Paul Faulkner said: "We'd like to thank Alex for his hard work and efforts throughout this tough season.
"We are mindful of the club's need to prepare thoroughly for the new campaign and for the new manager to be able to begin working with the board so that he is quickly immersed in these preparations and also in the long-term objectives of the club.
"Our focus now will be driven by these imperatives and we will update when appropriate.

"I'd expect to be here next season and hope to win over the dissenting Villa fans. I think Randy will be pretty pleased with the outcome. He's been very supportive in texts over the last few days, which indicates great support for me. It's been a tough season, as tough as I've had. I knew the challenge I was taking on. But going through it is always different from what people tell you. You have to experience it. I'd like to think I've showed my leadership and always stood up in the face of adversity all season. I am proud to be intact and not having thrown myself off a bridge or something."
13th May:
"It was an absolutely shocking, woeful display. Maybe some of the boys were thinking about their holidays already.
"That team needs a change and there will be change. That wasn't an Alex McLeish team today. We need to bring more quality into the squad.
"I take (the fans' booing) on my shoulders for the sake of the players, I agree with the fans' frustration about our display.
"I'm expecting the board to back me. I have no reason to think I won't be (Villa manager next season). We've got through a really tough season. I've won lots of trophies as a player and manager and I haven't turned into a bad manager overnight."

He knew. He knew. It was the only decision that could have been made. The enmity after the Bolton game? There was no coming back from that. Senseless appointment in the first place (not that the protests covered us in much glory), and it has now been borne out. What we have to do now is TAKE OUR TIME. Nothing domestic is going to happen until July 1st this year anyway, so might as well use those weeks to get a proper plan in order. We don't need "someone in by the end of the week" or any of the other loon-bag suggestions doing the rounds on Villatalk. Oh, and drop the "must have Premier League experience" 'requirement' too, that hemmed us in good and proper last time.

Apparently Lambert has quit as Norwich boss
PAUL LAMBERT quit as Norwich boss last night.
The Scot resigned following a furious bust-up after the club refused to give Aston Villa permission to talk to him.
Lambert will walk into the vacant Villa job, with owner Randy Lerner and chief executive Paul Faulkner identifying him as their No 1 choice yesterday.
The raging boss wanted out once it became clear the Canaries were digging their heels in, adamant they would not even let him hear what Villa had to offer.
It resulted in a bitter end to Lambo’s three-year love affair with the Carrow Road club, who he took from League One obscurity to 12th place in the Premier League following successive promotions.
It is the second time in 18 months that Norwich, backed by TV cook Delia Smith, have refused to give their manager permission to speak to a rival club.
In January 2011, they turned down Burnley’s request to approach Lambert following the dismissal of Brian Laws.
A Canaries statement at the time said: “The club will fight tooth and nail to retain the services of Paul Lambert and his team during this critical period of the season and whilst they remain employed under a long-term contract.”
They tried the same tactic yesterday but it blew up in their face — days after Lambert, 42, declared he was going nowhere.
That clears the way for him to succeed Alex McLeish, who Lambo played under at Motherwell.
SunSport can reveal Villa identified the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder as the steely character required to shake up the Midlanders before Roberto Martinez declared he was staying at Wigan.
Lerner feels Lambert is the young, aggressive and ambitious boss Villa need after two miserable years.
Norwich now face a summer sweat to bring in a new manager.
Former Canaries skipper Malky Mackay will be a contender.
He took Cardiff to the Carling Cup final, where they lost to Liverpool on penalties, as well as the Championship play-offs last season.
Chris Hughton is also in the frame.
West Brom are not keen to cough up around £2.5million for the Birmingham man’s services.
But that figure would not worry Norwich who expect to receive some compensation from Villa when Lambert is officially installed as boss.

why the heck would you leave norwich, a team on the up, to take over a shite team on its way down?
they've been drained of all their good players over the years and have an owner who seems disinterested. id rather stay at norwich til a much bigger team comes calling because it'll inevitably happen.

Good for Lambert. Trying to force a manager or player to stay against their will - refusing to let them speak to anyone else - is just stupid. Nazi mentality. You want people who want to stay, not pressed slaves. If Norwich now have trouble getting a decent manager and go down, then it will be no less than they deserve.

Maybe he thinks he will get better backing longer term to get players he wants. In any case, no harm in looking to see what their plans are - you can always turn them down if it is not what you want.

Despite their recent woes Villa are still traditionally one of the bigger clubs here. I'm sure a lot of managers would like a shot a club like that.
Also, Lambert has fallen out with the Norwich board and seemingly wants out anyway.

its a bit of taste your own medicine for norwich because its what lambert did to colchester to join them but its still a ****ish thing to do. i mean resigning means your club lose out on money for you. when you compare how swansea and rogers dealt with this situation and compare to norwich there is a sour taste in the mouth about hte norwich situation but still. its football. nowadays everyones a money grabbing **** and a select few arent. should be the other way round

Crooknapp set to replace Hughes.
if he keeps them up, we have to listen to his gloating about "12 games and 4 points " and i kept them up
if he takes them down, it will be "i came here with 4 points after 12 games and i couldnt do anything the damage was done, blame hughes"

If he manages to make then finshes above Spurs would be awesome tbh.

One good thing that comes out if Harry goes to QPR spuds now have 2 grudge matches to contend with. sould be tasty, if the wheeler dealer can get them out of the slump.

Crooknapp predictably on the phone to SSN updating everyone on what's going on.
Sounds it's pretty much a done deal and he'll be at the Manc game tomorrow watching.

He hopes Bond and Jordan will join him at QPR, old team back together.

I still love the name of this thread, I just imagine a load of football manegers in an old school sports day sack race, except wenger will be in his michelin man jacket.

Still Di Matteo.
Then AVB, Hughes and maybe Fat Sam if West Ham are struggling in January.
:gp:
Not exactly in that order, of course.
AVB is almost a certainty if they miss out on the CL places.
Fat Sam is still a possibility if they go on a bad run. West Ham are almost as self-destructive as Newcastle.
