View Full Version : Do we still have a Muse clique? If so, FAO them:
New album out this September called The Second Law, trailer released yesterday: http://he-3.mu/
I... don't know what to think about this, the strings at the beginning sound pretty cool, but Muse and Dubstep? Surely not.
I'm aware that I'm probably shouting at an empty room here, but meh. I thought I might as well see if this led to anything.

A 'trailer' for an album? Really?
I think ILT is dead, GP has run off and formed an anti-Muse clique. I'm in neither camp.
Will probably have a listen to the new album when it's out though.
I'm not 'anti' Muse. Absolution is one of my favourite albums.
But I just don't understand what they're trying to do these days. Their last album was beyond awful.
But yeah, a trailer for an album? Jeebus...
You're neither dead nor anti-Muse. Good to know :d
It seems they're keeping their promise of doing something radically different, and I can imagine that second part being incredible live. Still... Muse doing (what sounds like) Dubstep... hmmm.

I quite liked their last album but they are so far up their own arses it's untrue.
Didn't think much of the trailer tbh.

Also re: The Resistance, there are some good tracks on there (MK Ultra, Exogenesis, Uprising) mixed with some god-awful ones (I'm looking at YOU, Guiding Light <_< ) but it's nowhere near the heights of Origin of Symmetry or Absolution. The trailer... not convinced by any means, but it's still only a snippet. Entered the raffle for the next tour though :D

They've always been overrated. All their songs sound very samey. Guess this changes that!

What makes you say that?
Releasing a trailer for an album. A trailer? :sarcy:
And don't even get me started about the 3 part 'symphony' on their last album or their album and song titles. All a bit pretentious.
All that said, I applaud that they try new things - even if I don't like them it's better than Oasis style churning out album after album of the same thing.

Makes sense, even if it's not been done before. The song titles and lyrics are supposed to be tongue in cheek, especially the political ones. Exogenesis you might call pretentious if you see it that way, but all music is pretentious in some sense I guess.
Oh, and bignev, go and listen to Micro Cuts then Screenager, two successive tracks on the same album, and then say they're samey

We rock.
Got tickets.
But haven't paid for them, so won't be going.
£125 for two seated tickets.
Muse are decent....but £125.00.
Jog on.

Going rate these days I'm afraid. A lot of people charge more.
No-one makes money from albums any more because of piracy but you can't pirate the experience of a live gig so that's where the money is hence prices going through the roof.

I get that, but these were for seated. And the O2 is a horrible venue.
I'd rather go watch them at a festival next year for £200 and get three days of other bands in the bargain. Sure they'll do another stadium tour too. They usually do.
Demand for us is high so we charge what we want.

£125 is too much. I've seen huge bands and never paid more than £50. £125 is a fucking festival price. Muse can suck my balls. Too good to play OOS now, too big to do anything other than charge rip-off amounts and not engage with fans properly.

I should clarify that that was for two tickets, before booking fees etc. So £60-odd.
But still. It's too much to see just lights and shit sound, whilst being told to sit down, spilling my £6.50 watery carlsberg over a 12 year old.
No paedo.

Oh... £60 not so bad then. Still, considering the fact it's less of an awesome rock gig and more of a mega-pretentious "show", not really worth it. I wonder if they still allow moshing.

I paid £25 to see them back in 2004 at Earl's Court. That gig was mega-awesome. Supported by Soulwax and The Zutons. They had the descending giant balloon things and I think Matt was wearing his red suit, but it still felt like a real grungey gig.

FWIW I really like the O2. Acoustics are great and I've always enjoyed gigs there.

I saw Paramore at the O2, supported by B.o.B.

"Absolution" was my 1st album and my favourite one. I quite like "Origin of Symmetry" and "Shwobiz". "Black Holes and Revelations" has some great songs too...
I'm a big fan but their last album was average. If the new album sounds as cr*p as the trailer then I'm def not going to buy it. I've always wanted to see them live at Wembley but they're playing at the o2 instead :( .

The resistance is pretty awful, the only good tracks on it are exogenesis and MK Ultra. Being their debut album, showbiz will obviously have teething problems, but the other three, especially Origin, are pretty much faultless.

So you disagree with them?
FWIW, my view on it: Madness is boring, as is Save Me (sorry Chris), the rest are pretty strong, with Animals, Panic Station, Supremacy and Explorers my personal favourites.
Muse have never been good at track order (with the possible exception of Origin of Symmetry) and this is no exception, it's a bunch of songs rather than an album.
In comparison with their other albums, I'd put it at 3rd of 6.
So you disagree with them?
No, it's spot on.

Album is meh but not quite as bad as i thought it was going to be. I like Panic Station, Animals and the first track.
The songs in which the bassist sings just sound totally out of place and they arent really very good.
Save Me is too long and Liquid State is too short. LS could be incredible live if done right.

Meh, if you're not paying, the worst that can happen is you have to sit/stand through a gig that you don't much enjoy, the best that can happen is you're pleasantly surprised and you get a threesome out of it.
On the balance of things, go for it.
