Song sacked from Cameroon camp
Midfielder Alex Song has been expelled from the camp of the Cameroon national team for disrespecting captain Samuel Eto’o.
The Arsenal star refused to take Eto’o’s hand when he (Eto’o) extended it to him, while greeting his team mates upon his arrival.
The incident sparked a serious confrontation, causing Eto’o to abandon the team and its first training session on Tuesday.
Following a crisis meeting with players late on Tuesday, sports and physical education minister, Michel Zoah, signed a decision on Wednesday, June 1, sanctioning Song’s expulsion.
His departure has settled the controversy surrounding his return to the team and the long awaited medical report to ascertain his fitness.
The decision turned out to be a popular one amongst fans of the Indomitable Lions who have questioned Song’s commitment to the national course.
The team is in the final phase of preparation fro a crucial 2012 AFCON qualification tie against group leaders Senegal. Nothing less than a win will do for Africa’s football powerhouse as they currently lie a disappointing third in the standings.
