Well we're top of the league still so we must have been doing it to some extent. Whether we continue to, no idea.

Yes but the disappointment is that our league position didn't convince the doubters, and suddenly our results aren't either.

Yes but the disappointment is that our league position didn't convince the doubters, and suddenly our results aren't either.
That wouldn't happen until we actually won it, we're not in the position where we can soup our squads up to win those kind of games, at least not consistently and at least not yet - maybe in the future. And in truth even if we did, like Man Utd often found, they were always placed as second favourites behind Chelsea.
The last time we truly got pumped in the league was the 8-2 and we're in a far better position now (I don't just mean in terms of league position) compared to then.
Everton 1-0 Fulham, Osman.

Mate. 6-3 is a pumping for title pretenders. Noones saying that we haven't progressed. we have. But we are competing against teams who can make 8(?) changes against the CL Champs and beat them away. And we have to be realistic about where we are. IMHO in terms of eventual league position we are not massively different to our teams of the past 8 years.

How would a 3-0 defeat have been viewed? We drew there 1-1 last season but were nowhere near the top. You say realistic to be where we are, well that is beating most of the other sides in the league - home and away and that's why we are where we are, we've been doing that better than other teams.
If we are in the same position as in the past 8 years and perhap we are, I don't really know, I can only hope that we are now in the situation where there is no need for us to sell our best players in the summer.

And this is the true evidence of a step change for us. BUT - and this is the crux of it - is where we are sufficient to make us title contenders? I reckon that most Gooners would accept the improvement that we have shown - given our stagnation over recent years - but is it enough to win anything against the resources of our competitors? Results like today's are pretty emphatic in their answer to that.

I think so because I think we are currently, I might well be proven to be emphatically wrong within a few weeks but as of now, we are still top - I concede that it's reasonable other people will have severe doubts of us but so long as that remains to be the case, I'll think of us as challenging for it. If it isn't the case we can compete with those resources and those resources are the difference, then what other option do we have in order to make challenging a reality?

Yes it is. As if Peace has even heard of Anichebe (foolish buy though it is). Managers need at least three years. Sorry, but it's true. Unless we are talking Moyes, because that's just funny.

Well we'll see if it works. But their form since that start to the season has been pretty woeful. No doubt they'll be looking for a Pochettino-style revival.... first step is not to appoint one of the Old Boys... which they probably will.
And I'd rather see Moyes stay for a while. Let him do some real, structural damage at the club. We can't risk them appointing someone good before the damage is permanent.

It's a double edged sword, whilst it's great to see Spurs lose, it's not so great seeing Liverpool 2 points behind us.

Well depends on your viewpoint, people think we're overachieving and didn't expect this, so 4th is probably what they expect is it not?

Can we not just have a laugh at the spuds without trying to drag our own club down? We got beaten by 3 goals but still ended up further ahead of the spuds, there are negatives this weekend but this isn't one of them.

Pretty much.
If it comes down to us slugging it out with Liverpool for a top 4 place in the final knockings of the season, then given our historical tendency to bottle it, I don't fancy our chances.

Always nice to see Spurs lose but 0-5 at home is great from a Gooner's point of view.
I'd happily fight Liverpool and Everton for 3rd or 4th knowing we've ben there before and always produced the "top4" goods at the busines end of the season.
