How many full 90 minute games did Ozil play before picking up that injury? He picked it up against Chelsea and he should have been taken off. No idea what's going on with this club. Two fitnesses coaches and we're even worse off than before.

We can give up any hope of joining the top ranks if that happens. It will send out a loud and clear message that Arsenal is not the place for the star names to come. And it will only give encouragement to the media hacks who have had an agenda to sabotage him since the day he signed. Ozil is easily the most talented, naturally gifted player we have. Slap Wenger in the head and get him to use the player properly, or get a manager in who can pick a team based on the strengths of the players available and that would quickly become evident. Even so, I have a nasty feeling we'll take a massive leap backwards in January. Wenger screwed up beyond all reason with his decision to shun our player Fabregas. No reason why he can't make an even bigger mistake with Ozil.

I wish it was 3 months, then in January we can flog him for £35 Mill to Bayern, I would drive him to Bavaria myself. Wenger's most expensive panic buy. Lets now play with 11 men and win some games and climb up that damn table.

Draxler ?
I was reminded of wanting him when I saw Eden Hazard solider boy his way through the core of our midfield and defence to win his pen. Draxler was incidentally a simillar thorn in Chelsea's backside in the CL.
I don't really get why anyone can call this good news though and our fortune with injuries it bitterly woeful. We need to find whatever witch/warlock cursed us and push them off a cliff lest we suffer this indefinitely.

The guy is top class if played in the right role under the right manager, it seems neither is the case at the moment.
It's shocking how we've turned a player as good as he is into what we've seen. I was over the moon when we signed him, I never expected us to get so little out of him.

I'm not even sure this is totally our doing. Maybe he didn't want to leave Madrid and has been in a funk ever since. He just never got going. In the middle or out on the wing. He's not even playing that well for Germany and was shifted out to the wing for them in the World Cup.

While I will take any and every opportunity to show why Wenger is incompetent as a top manager, I genuinely do think that Ozil just 'doesnt like it' here at Arsenal and Wenger doesnt have much to do with his demise. I understand he is laid back with his style of play but he just looks plastic and seems to be moving through the motions. Nothing irritates me more than seeing a person not give a damn about the shirt.. If you lose, then lose but done lose without giving a F***!

I literally have no idea what 'attack score' and 'defence score' mean. All you've done is gone through and looked for stats where he's worse off and posted those. And I have no idea what 'average pass length' is supposed to show.
NQ's stats are actually relevant to the job he's supposed to be doing. Yours aren't, apart from possibly 'attack score' but as I don't know what that means and how it's calculated I can't really sensibly comment.

If you compare Ozil's stats when he was at Real madrid with Cesc's in 2012/2013, you'll see what the real Ozil is about. He is flopping because of the system, the league intensity and the manager.

That is your perspective on it. I do not believe his stats prove he is doing a good job OR more importantly prove that he actually gives a F about putting on the shirt. He can have ability along the likes of Ronaldo and Messi, but if he floats around the field looking disinterested, I dont want him in my team. I'd rather have a Coquelin start ahead of him, if that means Coquelin puts in a shift.

Nothing like the same as a season of stats set against the players who are supposedly doing a day's work while Ozil is supposedly stealing a living. You guys are reaching so hard it's a wraparound. Wilshere and Cazorla weren't good last season. You won't find many on here that will argue otherwise. Jack was getting slated last season and Cazorla was getting a bit of stick too. That comparison doesn't work.
Compare Ozil's stats to the rest of the top midfielders in the league and he doesn't stand out as one of the world's best playmakers. Ramsey was by far our best midfield player and it's worth taking a good look at those defensive stats. Ozil has the lowest numbers in the defensive area and that's where this lazy tag comes from. Also, what he offers on attack isn't enough to completely bypass his defensive duties. He doesn't top any of the categories. He has one more assist than Ramsey and half the goals but look at Ramsey's defensive contribution. This is fact. If defending isn't part of his game, he has to at least be an absolute beast on attack and he isn't. This isn't media myth. It's funny, today in another thread we've been talking about Dennis Bergkamp and your talking as if we haven't seen the very best at this club.

For the hype and hoopla created around this 'genius', we deserve better stats than that. He stands out as 'slightly' better among a bad bunch, and he is automatically good?! If we wanted a 10 million worth of midfielder, we might as well have got a 10 million quid player. Ozil was a player we did not need (and still do not need), but was brought in because Wenger was caught napping (as usual) in last years transfer window.
I remember watching him for Madrid and he was quick and always looked strong on the ball. At Arsenal, he looks lethargic at best. He probably feels that he deserves a better team. Whatever it is, all I care about from the team is that they show some fight and I do not see anything in Ozil signifying 'fight'.

That's the thing, with both of you and others like you. Nobody is saying he's been a 'genius'. Not many, if any, have claimed he's been performing like one of the world's best playmakers. But the media has taken his solid performances, if not spectacular but just as good as anyone else on the team, and turned that into "stealing a living", lazy, non-committed, etc. And some fans have jumped right onto that bandwagon despite all the evidence to the contrary. Some are now saying they hope he's sold. Of course that's idiotic beyond comprehension, for many reason - some on-field and others off it. There's such a myopic fervour that's struck the likely suspects they don't even milk the "Wenger playing him out of position" udder (which is usually the gift that keeps on giving). It's shitty when our own fans start doing the media's job for them.

It's funny, today in another thread we've been talking about Dennis Bergkamp and your talking as if we haven't seen the very best at this club.
You said "your" :haha:
The thing is, in terms of distance covered, Ozil had the third highest total in our team until Feb/Mar when he went out injured for 6/7 weeks.
Giroud also had a 'lazy' tag last season. But he was top of the pile when it came to our club. You would assume Ramsey or Flamini perhaps but nope, it was Giroud.
Unless Ozil is running round like a good old Englishman, giving it so real 'effort' and proper 'spirit' then he's just tagged as lazy.

Özil has been sub-par for however long now in our shirt.
No need to draw up meaningless stats to try and prove otherwise.

My tag for him would be 'mediocre'. While you shouldn't judge a player by how much was paid for him - in this instance you can't help it - at least I can't. By that measure, he is a massive disappointment.
What is even worse though, is that we have seen, elsewhere, that his is capable of much more than mediocre and we just aren't getting it. By that measure too, he is a massive disappointment.
He is the perfect illustration of why this Club can't and won't be able to compete with the likes of City and Chelsea on a sustained basis. We blow £42m on a player, our opportunity cost is precisely £42m. City and admittedly now, to a lesser extent, Chelsea, don't need to worry about trifling measures such as opportunity cost. If they spend £42m and it doesn't work out, they just go and keep on spending £42m on a player until it does work out.
We will never be able to do it, which is why we need to be so much smarter with our resources. In this instance we have been incredibly stupid. We either picked the wrong player, or we are playing him wrong, which is yet another massive disappointment.

This Ozil situation gets dragged up so much because guys like you want to drag up stats and keep talking as if there isn't a problem and it just adds to the scrutiny.
Example, if anyone on here decided to drag up Ramsey's stats for this year and attempted to argue that he's performing anywhere close to how he was performing last season, I'd be right here disputing it and saying you're mad. But it's generally accepted that he's under-performing so we don't get such long drawn out debates on here.

We also don't get calls for Ramsey to be sold or accusations he's stealing a living. Regarding Ozil, it is generally accepted he's not performing to the levels he's capable of. But he's certainly not lazy and certainly doesn't stand out as a particularly poor performer when measured against the other players in the squad. That's the myth the media and some of the genuinely lazy fans run (or sort of trudge) with. Nothing wrong with fans observing he's not performing to the levels we have seen him display at other clubs, plenty wrong with them then leaping to easily disprovable conclusions. Even worse listening to some hoping one of our best players gets sold. But we know, a run of form from any player and he's the next best thing to the fair-weather fans, and vice versa.

Unfortunately I don't think the arguments of his supposed lethargy or disinterest are at all necessary to convey a reasonable argument for him flattering to deceive.
I think his style of play makes him prone to such titles that we have long been opposed to on this Island, but again it is not a necessary angle and we certainly didn't pay the gold for his defensive capabilities. He does need to offer something of a return though and I suspect Wenger's reticence to dropping him has something to do with the fact he is patently aware he has been playing him out of position.
I know NQ doesn't like any praise of City players as do many others here, but I agree with AFC Lev's observation of Silva. When I watch him, he usually cuts the figure of a play maker who's powers I long to see over the Arsenal. He has a knack of finding space for himself (much like Ozil) but also constantly works angles to put his team mates through on goal too. He is incredibly difficult to subdue over a 90 minutes and because of it, nobody will give much thought to what he does when he is running back or how little defensive prowess he has. He is an Arsenal player really....and pretty much a more polished reliable version of what Rosicky once was.....though not as tenacious defending.
Kompany is an Arsenal player if I ever saw one and Wenger should have moved mountains to sign him years ago. Fantastic on the field ability wise, leads vocally as well as by example without having to racially abuse folk, shag team mates wives or spit in peoples faces.....and exemplary off the field. This is not just to wind up NQ either.
The pitchforks will be allayed a little whilst Nemo's out and we can all sharpen them for Wilshere and Ramsey once more and yell about how much we should sell the both before they lose all their milk teeth.

The other players in the squad aren't rated as the world's best playmakers so saying he's doing no worse than the rest doesn't help. We bought him to lead the way, not to get lost in the crowd with average performances.
You admit and accept that he's not performing as should, so I don't get all the fuss. You don't recall some folks saying Wilshere should be sold? It wouldn't be far fetched for calls for Ramsey to be sold prior to last season either. That's what happens on here often and it's not as if people need to be lead by the media. What was your take on the Arshavin situation? Was he underperforming or were we all brainwashed by the media? I don't recall you jumping to his defence in this same way if I recall correctly.
You put way too much stock into the crap that the media write as if the fans on here aren't already skeptical of their stories. In a lot of cases, they're playing catch up and react to what fans are saying. We're still waiting for them to get off this 'winning ugly' talk as if we're still playing beautiful and entertaining football. Most of the Ozil flack, their finding on social media and forums and just trying to spin a buck.

Ozil isn't our main problem. He was never going to be the missing link in a team that was not exactly crying out for a player of his ilk when he was bought. His talent is without doubt. So what is the problem, are we just scapegoating here. If we hadn't bought him, no doubt we would have been berating another player, most likely Wilshere for smoking or Ramsey for deliberately busting up his knee. We all know what the problem at Arsenal is. If our manager was handling the Brazil team of 1970. He would likely play Pele at RB and Jairzinho in goal.
Ozil is a no 10 plays directly behind the front man a la Bergkamp. He doesn't even play in the same role as Fabregas, who is more deep lying. A Sunday league manager knows those 2 could play in the same team but with a capable CDM and not with Wilshere and Ramsey at the same time. Thanks to Liverpool, we are coming 4th. We just need to wait it out like a man whose 22year sentence has 2 to go.

That's a poor management. How was he allowed to complete 90 minutes when he had that information? He could see Ozil wasn't playing well but took off Jack, Santi and Sanchez. Senseless. I though he was keeping Ozil so he doesn't lose confidence.

Taking off Ozil at HT would have been great for all concerned (now that we know what happened) because the manager knew what he was doing at the time. Bring on the Ox to play wide right and keep Cazorla in the middle.

From Arse.cum
on Ozil
He told me [about the injury] once it was discovered on the scan. He did not tell me anything during the Chelsea game, I did not know. What happened was that at half-time, just before we went out, he had a little pain with his knee but it was not bad. He wanted to go on and I told him, If you don't feel well, tell me and I will take you off straight away'. He never did that during the whole game, and after I left him on because we were in a position where we needed to score a goal and he can deliver the final ball. Then after the game, he went to Germany. With Germany, they thought at the start it was nothing. We played on Sunday, on Monday he was off, and on Tuesday they gave him the day off. He was supposed to practice on Wednesday. On Wednesday morning, he said he could still not practice. They sent him for a scan, and in this scan they discovered that he a knee ligament injury which is quite serious
