From Arseblog:

Anyway, so as not to end on a bad note, how about a competition? I’ve got 5 copies of the newly released ’100 goals RVP’ DVD to give away.

All you have to do to enter is answer the following simple question: Who fell over to allow to Robin to score Arsenal’s 4th goal against Chelsea last month?

Was it a) John Terry

You wanted GHEL's in the team.

Well, the dream is inching ever closer.

It's true.

Have to admit, I’m pleasantly surprised by the sudden influx in retards. Chezzers, Gibbso, Wilskins, Rambo are not human. They are incapable of thinking. They are just engines that will get the job done. Theo is not English, he’s an utter failure. He couldn’t even kick a dying puppy. He should be ashamed of himself.

Also impressed by some of the new English signings. Santos is a wonderful English player. Can’t defend for shit and is generally rubbish but he just can’t help cheating. There is potential there. I see a bright future for him. Possibly starring in ‘strictly come dancing’ within 4 years.

Great Vid. Can someone please show it t gervinho and walcott before tomorrow's game! Amazing how many times he timed his run perfectly and was brilliantly put through 1 on 1 by Bergkamp - think he finished EVERY time. I think it's no coincidence that Walcott had his best game this season against Chelsea and Norwich with the return of Henry - massive influence for young Theo and if he can work with him over the next 2months - Walcott might just finally find some consistency. And Gervinho might learn how to score a 1 on 1!

Former Arsenal and Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has claimed the Champions League is better off without Manchester City after they were eliminated from the competition despite beating Bayern Munich 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Lehmann, working as a pundit for Germany's Sky television, could not hide his pleasure at seeing City drop into the Europa League as Napoli joined Bayern in qualification from Group A of the competition.

"Man City play very, very boring football," he said. "They just make their opponents fall asleep with lots of possession.

"But to be honest, that is not tactically very demanding. The way they play here is the way any amateur team plays, only not on such good grass.

"They just pack men behind the ball, have five against two and just move the ball around. The goal then just comes from a fortunate circumstance."

Lehmann, who played in the Champions League final for Arsenal against Barcelona in 2006, albeit for only 18 minutes before being sent off, was also unimpressed by the atmosphere at the Etihad Stadium.

"There was no life in the stadium," he said. "It was dead. The fans are so quiet. You have got to say, though, that they have not got anything really to get excited about here. They had possession all of the time, albeit in their own half where nothing was happening.

"It is a shame because it is not typical English football. Napoli have heart and passion and I liked them. It is good that they have gone through. We don't want to see Manchester City in the Champions League."

City have been in sparkling form in the Premier League, with Roberto Mancini's men currently top of the table having scored 48 goals in 14 matches.

nicklas bendtner being arrogant (as usual  ):

Ekstra Bladent reports that after a drunken Saturday night in Copenhagen, the injured Sunderland striker went into a pizzeria without any cash and tried to get himself a free pizzaafter they wouldn't accept his credit cards.

"He was f***ing arrogant and came up as if he owned the place. Everyone just stood and looked at each other and shook their heads over the way he behaved," says a 22-year-old carpenter who ran into Bendtner in front of the pizzeria after a night out. [...]

"He played really stupid. When he could not pay, he demanded to get free pizza and said: 'Do you not know who I am? I can buy the whole pizzeria,'" says one of the staff at Pizza House. [...]

"We told him that it did not matter who he was. If he could not pay, there was no pizza," says the pizza man who does not want his name revealed.

After some time, where Bendtner begged and begged the many pizzeria guests to fund his food, a couple of young girls at last took pity on the famous football player and paid about 120 kroner, which the pizza cost.

Theo Walcott believes the return of Jack Wilshere will be as good as a new signing for Arsenal.

Wilshere has not played for the Gunners since he hobbled out of their Emirates Cup tie with New York Red Bulls with an ankle injury on July 31.

The 20-year-old has undergone surgery to cure the problem and, after successful rehabilitation, could be back in the Arsenal first-team as soon as February.

But Walcott, while clearly delighted by the prospect of his England team-mate's return, has warned not to expect too much too soon from the midfielder.
Important

"Seeing Jack in and around the dressing room and treatment room, he is as happy as ever," Walcott told Arsenal Player.

"He's had a new step in his life with a new-born baby, which is great, and he is also a very important player for us. Obviously he won the Young Player of the Year award last year which was deserved. He's also played for England and now he just needs to get back out on that pitch.

"You have to ease him back into it because he's had a long time out and he's only just turned 20. He has a long career ahead of him so we don't want to be overplaying him. But we'll use him the right way, I'm sure of it."

Walcott has also spoke of his determination to contribute more to Arsenal's goal-tally in 2012.

The Arsenal and England winger set up a sizeable chunk of Robin van Persie's 35 Premier League strikes in 2011, while scoring eight in all competitions himself, but he wants more in 2012.

"I had quite a good scoring year in 2011 with a lot of assists, which I'm happy with," Walcott added.

"This season I think I need to get in among the goals a bit more maybe - I only have four. But I'm happy if the team's winning and I'm getting assists for the main man up front.

"I'm doing my job and you have to be effective going forward. That's what I've been doing so far."
Drought

Walcott's other New Year's resolution is to end Arsenal's wait for a trophy by getting his hands on one of the three prizes still up for grabs.

And he is confident the current squad of players are capable of ending the club's much-maligned trophy drought.

"I think we've had so much experience of almost getting there - quarter-finals, the final of the Carling Cup for example - and we just want a bit more," he said.

"We obviously want to win the Premier League, we want to win every competition we enter. It's been a long time since we won something and for me personally, I want to win even more now as well.

"Fingers crossed we can all stay fit, which is quite important. In seasons before we've had a lot of injuries that have stuttered us slightly and that doesn't help the team. But it's a squad thing, and the important thing is that we keep a lot of players fit."

Theo Walcott claims Arsenal have pulled together to form a tighter team since the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in the summer.
The Gunners struggled initially this season after star midfielder Fabregas (http://topics.skysports.com/Cesc+Fabregas/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif left for Barcelona (http://topics.skysports.com/barcelona/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and Nasri (http://topics.skysports.com/Samir+Nasri/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif joined Manchester City, (http://topics.skysports.com/Manchester+City/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif but have been in impressive form since October.
Walcott (http://topics.skysports.com/Theo+Walcott/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif says the departures prompted Arsenal, (http://topics.skysports.com/arsenal/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif currently fifth in the Premier League, to adopt a new style.
The 22-year-old told Arsenal Player: "I'm not saying that Cesc and Samir were individual players, they were great team players, but when you lose two top players everyone needs to come together.
"The manager has brought in some good additions and we are a bit more of a team, we work harder when we haven't got the ball.
"We have a lot more clean sheets as well, and having [Thomas] Vermaelen back is very important as he is a massive player for us."
Next stepThe winger admits Arsenal need not to rely as heavily on Robin van Persie (http://topics.skysports.com/Robin+van+Persie/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif for firepower, with the talismanic captain having scored 17 of their 36 league goals so far this season.
He added: "The next thing the whole team needs to share the goals more.
"Samir and Cesc used to get quite a lot of them and Robin van Persie has been getting most of them so

Robin van Persie fulfilled a life-long ambition on Saturday after meeting Diego Maradona.

The Arsenal captain, who describes Maradona as his 'hero', surprised the Al Wasl manager during his holiday in Dubai.

Van Persie, posed for pictures with his family before enjoying a kickabout with the 51-year-old.

'I've always admired Maradona since I was a young child,' Van Persie said.

'He is one of the best footballers of all time, and a visit to Dubai would not have been complete without the opportunity to get to meet him face to face.'

Maradona added: 'Van Persie is not only a star player but a footballer with a stellar personality that is something that I hold in high respect.

'His great talent, combined with his humble character, make him a model for all great players to live by.'

Van Persie is expected to be rested for Arsenal's FA Cup clash against Leeds on Monday night with Thierry Henry set for his second Arsenal debut.

I'm getting a bit tired of Ramsey's dullness tbh. What's the point having British players if they're going to be dull? Everything about him and even the way he plays is dull. He needs to kick on or risk becoming another Theo - a player who stagnates without improving. He needs some time off. Wilshere's return can't come soon enough.

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/ramsey-i-ve-had-to-wait-for-wilshere-

Just highlights the path Ramsey was on before his injury that he was preferred to Wilshere. In real danger of becoming Eduardo II if he doesn't show some improvement soon. I think he needs some time on the bench/out of the squad but obviously that can't happen until Wilshere is back. Wilshere's return can't come soon enough.

Wojciech Szczesny retains his confidence that Arsenal can make the top four despite Sunday's loss at Swansea.

The Gunners went down 3-2 at the Liberty Stadium - their sixth defeat in 11 Premier League away games - to sit fifth in the table, four points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

But shot-stopper Szczesny believes the Gunners have enough quality to maintain their record of finishing in the top four in every season under Arsene Wenger and qualify for the UEFA Champions League once again.

He told London24: "I am confident we will get into the top four. We don't deserve to be outside the top four..

"We should be challenging for trophies every year and I believe the results will pick up and we will at least finish in the top four because we have the quality in the squad to succeed."

Sort it
But the Polish ace admits the Gunners need to sort out their poor form on the road.

He added: "I have no idea why we can't win away from home. The results speak for themselves and we have been really poor away this season. I really can't explain it.

"We go everywhere and try to do our best but the results don't go our way. We have talked about it and cannot come up with an answer. We need to sort it out.

"We can't take many positives out of it (the Swansea match) because we lost the game and we are disappointed about it."

RVP addressing the recent story about us wanting to sign his son.

From his Facebook page:

Just wanted to say something about the alleged story that Arsenal wanted to sign Shaqueel (my 5 year old son). He plays in a team with some of his school friends; he is lucky to have a very good coach, who I rate highly. Those kids have so much fun, and I don’t really want to take him away from all that. We have the option to take him for an extra session a week at Arsenal and we’re thinking about it – I might bring him along to try it and see whether he likes it. But it’s not as serious as Arsenal wanting to sign him – the Club just gave us the option to have a look, because they’ve seen and heard a couple of things about him. It’s true that he’s doing well and has good timing, but like any kid of his age he enjoys a lot of different things. It’s far too early to say that he’s a special talent or anything like that; for me, the main thing for both my children is that they enjoy whatever they are doing, whether it’s football or something else. I saw a couple of newspaper articles talking about him but trust me, it’s nothing that serious!

(and on Shaq’s alleged golfing prowess)
When we play nine holes he beats me on three or four – and I’m not that bad, you know? He won three holes last time we played. He’s very sporty but he’s just having fun, and that’s the important thing.

Shame, he's probably better than Chamakh. :coffee:

As a great man once said: "...if you're going to shoot, shoot. Don't talk."

A similar case applies here. Frimpong - revenge aren't some tough words on the internet (unless it's me, in which case it is). It's snapping an already-fading career in half. You'll probably be on the pitch with him soon enough. Bottle up the anger/attention-seeking-bollocks until then.

Frimpong is mental and GHEL in every sense of the word, I have no doubt he will attempt to break his legs. This guy is going to become the next Savage, Diouf, Barton etc...

A WUM universally disliked by everyone but his own fans.

Syn
20-01-2012, 10:58 PM
I don't think he has that dark side. I think we need to make some distinctions. The characteristics of the good lad are that they are fundamentally 'good'. They'll break legs because they're just completely stupid. And they'll start crying when they do. Savage is ghel. As are most British players. Wilshere included. But occasionally, you'll get a vile, bitter, ruthless prick who actively looks to hurt players. I'm not sure which category Pepe is in because although he looks to hurt players, he does it with such transparency that you just feel he's having a breakdown. The worst kind of people are those snidey little pricks that might not mouth off but will just be slightly late on the standing leg.

Frimpong might break a leg through sheer stupidity like Shawcross but he's no Roy Keane. If we're looking for true psychopath potential in our squad, you're looking at Van Persie. Warnock's a prick but he's right about Van Persie's 'cleverness' (though the fact that he's 'clever' is obvious given that he's foreign). One day Van Persie might truly snap and do something horrific. But since that Southampton sending off he has done well to curb that instinct. It doesn't go away completely though.

Theo Walcott believes Arsenal's players must look at themselves and take the pressure off manager Arsene Wenger, while he has tipped Jack Wilshere to become a better player than Cesc Fabregas.
Wenger's (http://topics.skysports.com/Arsene+Wenger/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif position as manager has come under scrutiny this season and his decision to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (http://topics.skysports.com/Alex+Oxlade-Chamberlain/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif with Andrey Arshavin (http://topics.skysports.com/Andrey+Arshavin/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif during the loss to Manchester United (http://topics.skysports.com/Manchester+United/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif on Sunday proved particularly unpopular with supporters.
While Wenger has shielded his players from the worst of the Gunners faithful's frustrations, England international Walcott says now is the time for him and his team-mates to stand up and be counted.
"The manager will take all the stick," he told the Daily Telegraph (http://topics.skysports.com/Daily+Telegraph/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif. "He looks after us. He believes in us.
"As players we need to look at ourselves. We need to take responsibility. The last few games haven't been good enough.
"The worst thing is we have a lot of regrets. There are games we could have won. When you go to Swansea and score two goals you should win."
Great captainArsenal (http://topics.skysports.com/arsenal/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif captain Robin van Persie (http://topics.skysports.com/Robin+van+Persie/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif appeared to disagree with Wenger's substitution but has this week played down talks of a rift with the manager.
And Walcott has praised the Dutchman's leadership in the dressing room as he revealed the team's culture of reflecting at length on the good and bad points of their performances.
"We always like to reflect on the game in the dressing room, even at half-time, sharing our feelings on the game," he said.
"Robin is a great captain who wants to win. He believes in the team and knows the team can do better."
Surpass the SpaniardWhile injuries to key players have played their part in Arsenal's failings, Walcott insists that cannot be an excuse - though he concedes Wilshere (http://topics.skysports.com/Jack+Wilshere/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif has been particularly sorely missed.
The teenager is expected to take on the mantle of being the midfield talisman at Emirates Stadium over the next few years following Fabregas' departure last summer, but Walcott believes he could even surpass the Spaniard.
"We've missed him. He's an important player even after just that one year (in the team)," he said.
"People compare him to Cesc (Fabregas (http://topics.skysports.com/Cesc+Fabregas/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif). I think he can be better than Cesc, definitely. It's just a shame he had that massive injury.
"Injuries don't help but we can't just look at injuries."

Hmmm.

Thing is, the sentiment of "Self-sustainability" is actually something I admire.

But when things are going wrong on the pitch, and the main competition we're in has heralded 3 defeats in 3, leaving us trailing by some margin, then something is wrong with the model.

I'm all for nurturing talent, and creating stars from nothing, but the competition for even the youngsters is mega nowadays, and as we've said time and time again...you need experience on the pitch to help these youngsters progress.

Talk about spin.

Japan Shaking All Over

too right.....I think most fans would love to poke the other teams in the eye and say......this is the way to do it but (for one or small catches.....)

1) The other teams dont want to try it and
2) We are not succeeding by following it

Striking a balance is what we are not doing and whether it is the stadium or what it is.....the club/board/Wenger is losing/has lost the confidence of some/all the fans......will it change when we final pay the last pound off on the stadium? Would like to think so but how long is that going to be and how much further do we have to slip......I am willing to suffer the pain but the seemingly lack of worry about achieving nothing more than mediocrity is a bit hard to stomach, especially when it is sugar coated with liberal sprinklings of BS.......FAC

I'm too young to remember him at his best - how good was he? Players you'd compare him to?

He's still my boyhood hero. One foot, but boy could he use it. Magic Man

I guess he was a bit like Le Tissier. That sort of languid movement, but just found passes and goals nobody else could. He did have a bit of pace, I guess, but more speed of thought most times.

GG used to play him down the left a lot, and he'd cut in on his right, and float balls all over the place, chip 'em in from nowhere. He'd play up top and get strikers goals too. For some reason the opposition could never get a handle on his one-footedness....
