His most hilarious effort yet. It must be tearing him up that Wilshere scored those goals.

Meanwhile Durham's book has fired the imagination of the critics:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/1471131599/ref=cm_cr_dp_see_all_btm?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending
I recommend this book 100%.
The best bits are by far the thinner sheets of paper between the front and back cover, which proved to be especially handy when I ran out of Andrex and were a definite step up from The Daily Mail in terms of comfort and quality.

WTF is that?! TBF most mid table premier league team could beat most of those teams in Englands group. This is exactly what happens every time, we breeze through the group stage against utter eastern block dross. The media have wank themselves into a coma about the team, then Come the real deal, we meet an average Italy, Sweden, south american team and get whipped. How can that team be compared to a team that went 38 games unbeaten in a season, and 49 in total. Piss poor journalism. Should be sacked. the mug.

When you think about it, it's a pretty impressive trick the clubs have pulled - exploiting the fact that fans now wear the replica shirts and always want the latest one so they change it every year.
They've made us so used to it they had the nerve to announce with much fanfare that they were 'only' going to change one kit per year.

Religion of Consumerism. Football is only taking it's cut. I don't mind new kits every year, even every week wouldn't bother me because you have to opt to buy them and if little Johnny has a whinge because his £100 shorts are out of date you can always send him for adoption.
Pricing the fans out of the ground is the real problem. So corporate fucks can leave their seats empty unless they happen to be in the neighbourhood.
I've never understood this bullshit tbh. Last time I wanted to wear an Arsenal kit was when I was 12. You get these 20 stone fat bastards playing football in a park with Rooney on the back ... come on, that dream died 400-500 pasties ago. For club colours, scarfs are ok. But don't advertise for Emirates it's embarrassing.

I think it's only just occurred to me just how ridiculous it is how accustomed we've all become to it - such that the new kit is unveiled with some fanfare and fans are actively excited about going out immediately to buy it rather than thinking "hang on...this is a racket".

Don't see the big fuss tbh.
If you don't want to buy it don't. Unlike watching the games, it's not a prerequisite for being a fan. Whilst the regulars are understandably fatigued and bored with it, there are plenty of passionate fans around the world who love buying new jerseys every time one's released. We're a massive club these days.
We're PUMA's biggest client by far and they're milking it for every penny. Good thing Ivan was smart enough to only make the current deal 3 years only as I reckon we can push for 50 million a year at least next time especially if we have a league win to our belt.

The club needs to come up with an enforceable policy for social media. Watching Ozil's every tweet and image turn into a fake news story designed to undermine him is complete bullshit. Why do we need this social media shite? Why do fully grown adults want to tweet and post trivia in garbage dumps like Facebook? Simple answer is to avoid feeding the media hacks and the sad cases who hang out on these social platforms. Why not use Youtube instead? Post up skills videos, advice videos for kids who want to be footballers. Then see if the media can turn that into shit. They won't be able to. But stop with the pointless tweets FFS! Regular companies have social media policies - why doesn't Arsenal?

Will be a fascinating battle between him and Debuchy next season. The youngster really hasn't done a lot wrong so in my view should start as first choice.

Probably the best young player we've had come through since Wheelchair. He really saved our bacon last season when we were struggling for stability at the back with all the injuries.
Debuchy has been unfortunate but Bellerin should be classed as first choice. He's earned it.

I have been impressed with Bellerin, he was a bit ropey to start with but he really did improve as the season when on. It is hard luck on Debuchy but Bellerin should be treated as the imcumbent and unless he gets injured or looses form then should be first choice. Surely that's the idea of competition for places.
It's not even close. Debuchy at his absolute best still won't be as good as Bellerin. Just doesn't have the talent. Would also expect Bellerin to gain confidence and be a bit like Bale now. He can get past players easily. Gives us a completely new option which RBs usually don't. Wouldn't swap him for any RB, he's going to be incredible. Barca player by 24.

Listening to Arseblog at work, they are being asked what their favourite away kits and most hated away kits are.
The Irish fella basically said he's not a fan of any non yellow away kit, which is diametrically opposed to my own view because I despise the yellow away kits (hate yellow as a colour)
I prefer the blue or navy kits, really liked our third kit last season, my favourite though would be the gold kit from 01/02...adored that strip.

That game against United worried me though, no fullback should let Ashley Young mess them around like that. And then there's other things like that penalty against Liverpool. I think he should do what Gibbs and Monreal did and focus on getting the defensive side down. The attacking side will come naturally for him, but he'll need to put in a lot of work in to learn how to defend. If he does that he'll be an absolute beast. But until then there's a case for starting Debuchy against the big teams IMO

well i'm not overly keen on the idea of established first choice team players, if you have two players for a posiition...you rotate the squad depending on which player brings what to the table depending on who you are playing.

Good read here about Shad Forsythe's impact on the side in his first year at the club...
mirror.co.uk (http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-improved-injury-record-25-6054218?)
Also great to hear the manager stating quite categorically that we no longer have to sell our best players...
skysports.com (http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/9914150/arsene-wenger-arsenal-do-not-need-to-sell-their-best-players-anymore)
...putting aside transfers for a minute, you really can't understate the importance of consistency and continuity when trying to build a team. IMO, this has been the biggest problem we've faced over the last decade: that we simply haven't been able to keep a team together, both from one season to the next because of sales, and from one game to the next because of injuries. Good to see both of those issues finally being resolved now - even if we make no further additions, it's going to be a huge boost to us just to be able to have a full(ish), hopefully fresh, set of players to pick from most weeks, and to see the understanding between them continue to become quicker and sharper each year...

You're seeing the typical result of censorship in action. If the obviously harmless comment was still available there would be a context. Now, as you say, it descends into dance around a single word minus all context bar the scary one. Curious Robbie started the chain of events by assuming a racial stereotype to present his... art. The joke was a wry observation which followed on from an edgier single word observation which followed on from my own obviously rhetorical commentary on Robbie's ignorance and ultimately racism. That's all that happened. The three opening posts are still available, the one with the 'N' word (yes it's ridiculous I can't type it) is gone, along with any posts that quote it. As usual, censorship has turned a 3 second footnote into a 3 day crisis while missing the point in the process.

So the year was 1987 and the Swedish star Anders Limpar managed to get himself a trial at Liverpool. He was actually impressing and the club wanted to sign him due to good perfomances on trainings. However, during this time, the rules said that he as a Swede needs atleast 10 international caps to sign a contract with the club.
Liverpool had just sold their best striker Ian Rush to Juventus and brought in John Barnes. He was the first black player playing for Liverpool FC and was supposed to replace the superstar, Ian Rush. Kenny Dalglish was also getting to his old ages as a player-manager. Together with Barnes came also Beardsley and Aldridge. To replace a godly striker-duo was obviously a very hard task.
The tv-show "Dallas" was popular during this time. One of the main characters was called Digger Barnes. He quickily settled in to the team and got the nickname from the character, Digger Barnes.
So Anders Limpar arrived to training and heard his nickname. Obviously he wanted to settle in aswell and started to call them by nicknames aswell.
"N*gger, pass the ball! I'm right here, n*gger!"
Shocking. John Barnes runs quickly up to Limpar and asks what the fuck he's saying to him.
"But that's what they call you?" says Limpar
Alan Hansen goes inbetween the players and explains.
"It's Digger. With D"
It all ends up well for every part and the whole team can't hold for laugh.

The French aren't scared to vent their disapproval just because it might make a player cry, Giroud is not much kop and it's good to see a footballer being shown he's not performing well enough and needs to up his game, don't like the softly softly approach, it doesn't work.

Booing a player off who is being substituted, or the whole team at the end of the game, to let them know what you think of their 'efforts' is fine IMO.

Many fans mistake players for being arrogant or show-offy when they're actually shitting themselves. Eboue was maybe one of them because he did some ridiculous things in that game. Ramsey is another that does stupid tricks when he's nervous. Doesn't help the situation but not too critical of it either. I think it should have a minor impact anyway. Just focus on doing your job. That thousands of people are calling you shit while you do it shouldn't put you off your focus. If it does you're maybe not cut out for the very top level.

I think Eboue was booed when he was subbed off too. I don't think singling out a player is right though, at least not because they had a bad game like Giroud. If he didn't bother putting in the work or did something to offend the fans, fair enough, but it's a bit harsh to boo someone for having an off day (or not being good enough...).

Devil's advocate says how are you supposed to keep that sort of mentality and then keep a connection with the fans? We all moan about players not identifying with the club. I don't think it's possible if you feel the fans can turn on you minute you stop playing well
Would be amazed if Ramsey stayed an Arsenal player for the rest of his career.
Niall_Quinn

A lot of those fans are likely using Giroud as a means to vent their frustration at the manager and the club policies. He's the striker that hasn't been banging the goals in and is playing in the position reserved for the top quality striker Wenger refuses to sign. So he's bound to get some stick if he can't measure up to the expectations. Wenger has dumped a lot on him this season.
Power n Glory

Club level issues are different to international. When players underperform for internationals, supporters are more ruthless with showing disapproval. They want their country to win and will get pissed off if a manager selects an inferior striker to start when you have so many options.

£6.30 extra in fees for the ticket! Don't understand why there is a postage charge if I'm supposed to be printing the ticket home, gone all the way to place order but haven't seen an option between postage/ticketfast, which would make sense. Sod it, I'd rather save the cash.
Also, I see they've bumped up Bayern Munich to cat A when CL group games have always been cat B as far as I'm aware.
In short, Arsenal can get fucked.

I do wonder if there will be a tipping point with the cost of supporting Arsenal. The club always claim demand is high but at some stage surely the majority fan base will turn round and say you're taking the piss. All this additional revenue from advertising & TV etc; yet it's not reflected in the ticket prices. Personally I am becoming less and less inclined to put money into their coffers. Each year the number of live games I attend reduces.

Those tourists will stop visiting the second Arsenal stop delivering. But they're still here in big numbers. Because, maybe, just maybe, even they're not spoilt enough to consider that despite winning the FA cup you've still had a shit season. How very traditional of them.
But Arsenal are indeed thieving cunts. If you forget your membership card they charge you an extra tenner to get in. It doesn't take 50p to print a new ticket. There's so many complaints the staff actually bargain to a fiver or less. Amateur stuff.

When I was unsure job wise a few years back some may recall I had a season ticket for my Dad and I at Fulham (cheaper for both near halfway line than my 1 Arsenal one) and that was filled with tourists to see BLitW as ticket availability was generally good. I don't see Arsenal losing out too much in tourist income tbh, well at least until Spuffs and Chavs open up bigger stadiums (and to a lesser extent those up north teams too).

Potentially some great news round the corner:
The Premier League is in danger of losing a fourth Champions League spot in the 2017-18 season if poor European performances continue this season.
English teams have not reached the Champions League quarter-finals in two of the past three seasons. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31842700)
New co-efficient rankings, (http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/newsid=2284494.html) calculated over a five-year period, show England are third, behind Spain and Germany.
Italy are fourth, four points behind England. The top three ranked countries receive four Champions League places.
Performances in both Uefa competitions - Champions League and Europa League - are taken into consideration for the rankings with more points awarded in the elite competition (see tables at bottom of this page).
Points are awarded for qualifying for the group stages and then for each knockout round negotiated.
Four English teams have qualified for the group stages of this season's Champions League, against just two from Italy, thus earning more bonus points.
However, if last season's results were repeated - Juventus reached the Champions League final with Napoli and Fiorentina reaching the Europa league semi-finals - then Italy would jump ahead of England.
There are two English teams in the Europa League and three from Italy.
The 2017-18 season will be the first where the 2010-11 season drops out of the reckoning.
That season saw Manchester United reach the Champions League final, where they were beaten by Barcelona in Rome, while Tottenham and Chelsea made the quarter-finals.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34324794
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34324794)
Hope this happens, then 4th place can go back to being a position noone gives a toss about, just as it should be.
I think it's quite unlikely though. Firstly because of the money and attraction to the CL that UEFA wouldn't want to lose from the UK.
Also it would mean continued Italian success while we go right down the shitter. Although the latter is quite likely.
As things stand Spain are on 86.142 at the top.
Then come Germany on 67.606.
England have 65.284.
Italy are a bit behind with 61.105.
Then it is Portugal on 45.082,
France with 44.916 and Russia on 43.282.

If it's a ranking system, how is it not possible? It's all dependent on performance. UEFA don't like England. I don't think they'll bend the rules for us in this case. Would one English team gone really cost UEFA that much?
We'll see what happens in Italy. I doubt we'll lose a spot as well because there aren't that many good Italian teams.
I didn't say it wasn't possible, just unlikely. UEFA may dislike England but they do like the money the teams bring in, which is always a more persuasive argument.
Wouldn't surprise me if cunts from City took it to court again if we lost a fourth place anyway. A bit of lawyer pressure and UEFA bend right over usually.
It's a point allocation system so if the Italian teams get enough, Italy will go above England, there's not much debate there as it's predetermined really.
Niall_Quinn
22-09-2015, 02:55 PM
UEFA try to pretend they make the rules but they don't. The whole CL thing is a compromise designed to stop the European elites breaking away and forming their own league, arranging their own competitions and TV deals etc. So if the big 16 don't like something it will never see the light of day anyway. Doubt Utd will be up for any change, we certainly won't be and the chavs and gypos will probably want a buffer.
Should be the top 2 at very best, top 1 preferably but then they couldn't have a meaningless league half stuffed with shitty place holders (such as ourselves if you judge us on performance).
Marc Overmars
22-09-2015, 03:04 PM
There's too much money sloshing around English clubs for them to not make the improvement needed within 2-3 seasons. Meanwhile I don't really see Italian teams holding on to their best players and creating the kind of strength in depth they had in the late 90's/early 2000's.
Of course the uproar from the Premier League would be pretty funny if 4th went down the drain.

But they've been split for ages haven't they? I think it's just the media have found out about it now or chosen to highlight it now. The fact the kid is 18 is probably significant. Wait until the kid grows up, then call it a day. Lots of people doing that now. Doubt any of this could be used to explain his inaction during the transfer window. It's his out of touch ideas on value that seem to be the main culprit.

Tbf they were just trying spell out "WUMger sign Owen Goal"
Spot on if you ask me, we've probaby "almost" got the best team in history
Anthony Martial’s agent has derided Arsene Wenger over his comments on the Manchester United striker, telling the Arsenal manager: “There are those who follow players and those who buy them”.
Wenger has previously claimed that he was aware of Martial’s “huge talent” but was unwilling to spend money on a player who he viewed as more of a winger than striker.
He admitted he had been following the striker long before his United move (http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/arsene-wenger-manchester-uniteds-investment-in-anthony-martial-sums-up-why-arsenal-haven-t-spent-a2925691.html) but felt that the deal agreed by Louis van Gaal’s side showed the surfeit of talent available to top sides.
The £36 million signing has set about proving the Arsenal manager’s doubts wrong since arriving at Old Trafford, scoring four goals in as many games. And the player’s agent did not agree with the Wenger’s assessment of the 19-year-old’s best position.
“Anthony is a true modern centre-forward who can change a side.” Philippe Lamboley told RMC Sport.
“I am surprised by the analysis of Wenger, who has apparently been following him since he was a teenager. If Wenger made his analysis to justify not signing Anthony, then I accept his words and so he is a winger.
“But in football, there are those who follow footballers and those who buy them.”

A stark contrast between Wenger of old and the Wenger we are currently stuck with. Way back, When Wenger seemed to know what he was doing, there was another winger he had been following that had "huge talent". Wenger brought him in for what was a fairly significant sum at the time, and certainly a big fee by our standards, and set about the task of converting this hugely talented winger into the best striker ever to play in the PL. Henry would have been worth the £36mill (or £58mill, or whatever it is) even back then.
I hadn't heard of Martial before Utd expressed their interest. So I went and had a look and it was obvious, even to an Internet fan, this player is the real deal. The market is crazy today. £36mill isn't even a big fee any more, Liverpool blew that on Carroll years back. If you think you have big talent on your hands and you can jump in early and secure those services for maybe the next decade then you go for it.
I guess Wenger must have thought he'd identified his own gem when he saw Sanogo play. As I said, big difference between the old Wenger and the old fool we have to suffer now. He's not spotting talent and bringing it through any more, that was yesterday. Instead he's ruining potential and wasting talent, as we see with Theo, Ox, Ozil and Alexis.
Looks like Klopp is off to Liverpool. We may not have picked up Vidal or Martial, but we should at least be competing for Klopp's signature.

He's severely handicapping himself if he only wants to fish around the Benzema/Cavani pond of players, those guys will only scarcely become available. He needs to get back to basics and start developing his own as well, top players won't just fall into his hands. Maybe he's started to get lazy now he has money.

If he indeed went after Benzema, he's deluded, the guy was never available and we would never have paid the money necessary to force their hand, sometimes it just looks like he goes after players that he has realistically no chance of signing so that he can go all summer signing noone and has a ready made excuse for his lack of spending.

Trouble with this is that we have had all the `bright young talent` stuff for years, and it never worked, or if it did, they upped and left. Many were calling for big name signings, of which we have made a few (ozil, Alexis, Cech), now some are saying we need to go back to scouting young, up-coming players. For me I was fed up of the `nearly` teams we had, and craved to sign established players.

True to an extent but I also think we're now in a position to sign the best young players. No more random punts like Sanogo, Denilson, Bischoff etc.
It's a balancing act that I don't feel Wenger as ever really got to grips with, we always seem to end up with a lopsided squad in one way or another.

See your point, trouble is these young players are now fetching silly money too. I will reserve judgement on `the next Henry` Martial until he has done it for 5+ years. Once he has scored 25+ a season for those seasons, got 10 assists per season, and has single handed grabbed the team by the scruff of the neck and dragged them to victories when struggling. In this day and age of super lazy journalism and jumping on the next bandwagon every bleeding week.
We see so many young players tear it up for 6 months-2 years, before just slipping away. It is a balancing act, I agree.

The market is the market. The issue is Wenger is always at war with the market hence why we are very slow movers. If a great young talent now costs 30million + to secure their signature then that's what we have to pay to get them to the club, everybody else does it and we are certainly in a position to do it ourselves.
It's no point having the stance of watching someone bang in 25 goals for a couple of seasons and then say in hindsight they are now worth the fee. Every transfer free is a risk regardless of whether a player is a great young talent or established star.
Our issue with player recruitment is Wenger, he is the one that dithers and is reluctant to meet players valuations due to his "principled" stance on things.
