This could be the straw that breaks the camel's back (Alexis getting injured). Southampton are on the way back up... draw at best or loss due to handbrake.

Alexis, Ox and Welbeck must not play. It's about time we used Merts as the lone striker and then sub him for Bilbo Baggins in the 92nd minute. Also we need to drive green cars all over the pitch and set up an Indian Reservation (with casino) in the opponent's third. Unconventional, perhaps. But after 400 wins you can't knock the guy.

Tough game now that Saints are decent again. A draw wouldnt be the worst possible result but a win would be HUGE as it would take us above them and a step closer to 4th place trophy.

We have to beat them....enough of this nonsense about them finishing top 4. With Kos back I'm more confident we can hold it together. I assume Rosicky and Gibbs can come in so maybe something like this.....
---------------Szczesny--------------
Debuch-----Kos----MERT-----Gibbs
--------Flamini------Rosicky-------
Walcott-------Cazorla------Podolski
---------------Welbeck---------------
Alexis is obviously the key man and the one who has played most games so I'd be inclined to rest him for the Cup game. If Podolski's having a mare, take him off on 60 minutes or so....and put Alexis on. Cazorla has been back to his best lately even if his shooting is still a little off and it's about bloody time Walcott played.....!?

You're right mate...he most definitely won't play the team I suggested. Podolski can't beg a game and there is a strange reluctance to use Theo right now......
I think we will finish 4th almost (don't want to hex it but still...) regardless of what we do. It will have to be Liverpool/Spuds/Southampton who snatch it from us and I don't really see that actually happening. So on that basis I think a little more onus should go towards retaining out title as FA cup holders.

We are only 13 points behind Chelsea and we are yet to play them at home, so thats 10 points. We can make up that 10 points over the course of the season. When we win the remaining games in the season, we will have 90 points. I think that will be enough to win the title.

Schneiderlin missed the home game too and they were a different side without him.
Was just looking at the league table this time last season and we were on 42 points compared to this season's 33. 9 points dropped and it just shows that we have clearty gone backwards. However, in the 2012/2013 season we had 33 after 19 games and finished with 73 points (4th).

3 teams can win it and it is nigh on impossible that anyone outside those 3 teams can, never mind will, win it.

Unless something drastic happens at the club (like Wenger leaving immediately), we will not win the PL this season. There is no way this lot will win the big games and no way will the team have the balls to fight for their manager.
As for us being favorites last season... at NO time were we favorites. Everybody who has remotely followed Arsenal over the last decade or so, predicted that we'd fold and die the moment we hit difficult fixtures. Yes, I was cautiously optimistic and hoping that I would be proved wrong but every evidence pointed towards the contrary, and that is exactly how it panned out.

Other managers would probably reinforce in the obvious areas needed, would use the squad more judiciously and wouldn't make the most bewildering substitutions that anyone could comprehend. I think with another manager we'd be a more than a lot closer, maybe even beat one of our competitors occasionally.

Absolutely another manager could do worse. Here is what I am sure of though... we are not going to get better with AW.
Another manager may or may not make us better but I am sick and tired of getting the same dish served with a different name. I'd rather we at least tried and failed, rather than not try at all. Our fear of the unknown has meant that we have stuck with an out of touch manager for much longer than we should have.

We've stuck with him because he's met his bosses targets which has clearly been a top 4 finish.
I agree we won't get better under Wenger but while at some point we clearly have to move on I'm not sure whether we should hurry about it. Sacking him NOW with no plan would be stupid. We don't want to turn into Spurs, sacking our manager every other year with increasing desperation.

31-12-2014, 09:53 PM
I would like to think that a big club like Arsenal (or any other big organization) always has contingency plans for when a manager, director, coach etc leaves. So for us to assume that there is no plan in place would be naive. Honestly, I do not think we would do any worse with Bould as our manager IF AW were to be fired. And then based on how the players respond to Bould, we could look at bringing in another manager or not for next season.

You don't think we'd be worse with someone with no top level managerial experience?
You may be right if, as I've suspected at times but it's hard to be sure, Wenger has 'lost' the dressing room.
That said, we have had better results of late so this might not be a great time to lose momentum.
As for whether there's a plan, you'd like to think so but with our board I wouldn't bank on it. They still seem so enamoured with Wenger I'm not sure they're even thinking of anyone else right now.

In any football club , there are two kinds of people . Those who are guided by their emotions and only care about the result on the pitch . They don't care about the financial situation of the team . Whether the team spend more than they should , it is not their problem .
Then , you have those who are guided by the logic . They care more about the future of the club than the immediate result . They seem to understand the financial situation of the team and are reluctant to spend just for the sake of spending .
It depends on which side you are when assessing the situation of the team .

The back 5 might well have been a shambles but they showed great spirit. We also showed great spirit while being dominated in the middle and the spirit was good among our anonymous front men. The manager's spirit has also been good despite the fact he has been tactically shit on as usual, although to be fair to him he's contributed admirably to the poor performance with his bizarre line up.
