Just hope we play well, couldn't care less about the result because in the scheme of things it's irrelevant. We already know we've finished 3rd or 4th this season so points, placings, irrelevant.
But it would be nice to see a decent performance. A bit of entertainment. Something like a 3-0 Ozil hat trick. Would be great.

Lacking bit sharpness due to travelling to Spuffs, unlucky to let in 3, Owen Goal #1 striker off form and my wife left me :crying:

Could be little bit mental game.
We'll create the chances, it's whether Walcott and Alexis score them that's the problem.
2-4.
Coquelin will be a big loss. 2-2.
Wont be watching because Wenger's ruined everything. Even his marriage.

Pleased to see he's dropped Bif. Good that Flamini has been picked over Arteta. Neither are that great but Flamini's confidence must be up after mid-week. Hopefully we won't be seeing him in the centre forward role today though. Can Theo do something today? Anything?

Alexis sloppy with his passing but I think Ozil has played well. Don't forget, he's a footballer surrounded by charging and snorting pubbers, so he has to play a bit like a matador. Theo has been a bit sad with his first touch and his decision making.

Ramsey's been cleaned out a few times, Leicester players falling over like they're going down for a try. Ref is letting the game flow but I don't think we're getting much in return. It's not a game until we have one of our CM's on a yellow anyway.

They have, to be be fair, and I guess when we win and play well there isn't that much to say about it all.
I am a bit sick of the unremitting misery on here though, after the West Ham game you'd have thought we were all set for a relegation battle.
I'm not one of them, because football is dead, yet I have this horrible inate zombie fascination with Arsenal it seems. I wish I could switch off :(
I don't watch much these days - I only saw the Spurs game because I was away with the in-laws and they wanted to watch it, kinda glad I saw it though given the result. I'm much less interested in football in general these days, it's not the sport I grew up with, but yeah I can't completely disentangle myself from it and still kept an eye on the score today.

Nope. The reason people get naffed off, isn't because we lose to West Ham in a one off match; It's because we lost to West Ham, in the same way we lost to Aston Villa two seasons before.
We lost, having come off the back of an FA Cup winning season, where we'd forgiven the really really shit start, we'd made off the back of the previous FA Cup winning season.
The reason you don't get the frustration, is because you think it's more comfortable to stay still.
Spurs beat City 4-1 today.
Billions of pounds has nothing to do with it.
Drilling a team of players is the way to go, and until our numpty of a manager respects the game instead if living in his own dream world, we will forever be left behind.
Everyone was quite rightly utterly disgusted with the West Ham result.
Letters off on his fucking high horse again. No idea how he got up there though. If only he was actually better than everyone else. Might be worth listening to then.

I do 'get' the frustration, I don't get the ridiculous over-reaction and pant wetting.

It must be coincidence that every title since the billionaires stuck their oars in has been won by one of them (or Utd who had Fergie as manager and also have more spending power than us). You can always point to individual results and that is not an argument. Over a season the money has an effect. It's had an effect for us too now we've got the money to sign players like Ozil and Sanchez.
Everyone was quite rightly utterly disgusted with the West Ham result.
Rightly so, but all the hyperbole writing off our season after that one game was and remains nonsense. We've stuttered a bit so far but they're just starting to look like a pretty decent team again, we're in touch with the top of the table and for now that's all we need to be.

Letters has developed into a deadly WUM.
Yeah, but it's always positive. Why would being positive about the club we all support wind anyone up?

He's the Anti-Cripps.
That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said about me.
I don't even think I'm being overly positive. We all have concerns and frustrations. I'm just saying things like, as poor as the opening day was, how it doesn't make a load of sense to judge a season after one game and being called a WUM by people who can't be arsed to form a coherent counter-argument (in that example because there isn't one). Usually after a bit of back and forth people just resort to abuse, subject-changing and WUMming and then accuse me of being a WUM. It's a lazy "you know you are, you said you are".
Meh, whatever. The ZD is so advanced in many on here it seems they almost cross their fingers we lose these days just so they can have another moan. Even if we win they often moan anyway.

Break it down:
I don't even think I'm being overly positive.
Neither do I. You're being overly apologetic, which is a different thing.
We all have concerns and frustrations. I'm just saying things like, as poor as the opening day was, how it doesn't make a load of sense to judge a season after one game...
As people have said over and over and over and over again, they weren't judging it on just one game, they were judging it on a pattern established over a decade. Any fool knows you don't call the result of a season after the first game. But what you can do is recognise when the same problems keep cropping up season after season. Going into the arguments again isn't relevant to the main point here though. It's your careful framing and your insistence on ignoring the context of the opposing argument that pisses people off. You're an intelligent bloke so it's hard to think you can't interpret what people have been saying. You know exactly what they are saying and you also know the balance of evidence is firmly against your position, so you throw all this out and instead create a childishly simple position for your opponent which you then roll your eyes at. Oh what poor deluded, reactionary fools they are. Imagine them thinking the season is over after just one game. And look, we beat Leicester - so they are WRONG! Ha ha ha.
...and being called a WUM by people who can't be arsed to form a coherent counter-argument (in that example because there isn't one).
And here's the evidence. The reason your opponents don't have a coherent argument is because you ignore it. But better yet, you deny the counter argument can even exist. Well it's not so hard to be right all the time when the contrary view is disqualified by default.
Usually after a bit of back and forth people just resort to abuse, subject-changing and WUMming and then accuse me of being a WUM.
Yes, people get frustrated with your unwillingness to engage in any sort of meaningful debate. And they get angry when you tell them what they think and ignore what they say. Is it therefore so difficult to understand why they assume you are a WUM? In a way it's a compliment. They are saying, wow, the guy can't really be that dumb and disagreeable, he must be doing this on purpose.
It's a lazy "you know you are, you said you are".
Yes - very lazy.

I dont know why you people bother. Letters is the ultimate troll. Good result people feeling good anf focusing on the next game and he pops up to stir things up. Good result: give the manager a new contract, bad result: you people are bedwetters. Deprive him of Oxygen chaps, fire just thrives on it.
Another 5 years of coming 4th and he`d still see no problem.

No attempt to engage with anything I've said. Lazy straw man argument misrepresenting my views and stating what I think and then, the cherry on top, masking all this by claiming I'm the "troll"

You have said that over and over again and I have responded over and over again as to why I see glimmers of hope that those patterns are changing. I'm not going to list those things again. You might not agree with me and that's fine. But don't say I've ignored or failed to understand the point, I've addressed it repeatedly.
If we're just going by the patterns of previous seasons then one of them has been a failure to maintain a consistent challenge. There have been seasons where we've gone off like a train only to collapse at the business end. So even if we'd won every game so far if you believe the patterns are just going to repeat then there would be no reason for optimism anyway. If the 'balance of evidence' is the last 10 years then that balance exists whatever results are so far this season.
Any fool knows you don't call the result of a season after the first game. But what you can do is recognise when the same problems keep cropping up season after season.
OK, but again you can't sensibly assess that after one game or even after 7. The West Ham game did burst the bubble of positivity which had been built up in the tail end of last season and in pre-season but some of the reactions on here were ridiculous over-reactions. Last season we lost any chance of the title before we really got going. This season the start has been somewhat stuttering but results have been OK. We're in touch. No-one has gone off like a train - even City's has now derailed somewhat. IMO we're good enough to mount a challenge, if we stay in touch then I trust this lot more than I would have a few years ago to finish the job. If we fail to mount a challenge this year then I agree Wenger should go.
create a childishly simple position for your opponent which you then roll your eyes at
I can't quite believe you've said that when that is EXACTLY what a lot of people have done to me. Globalgunner has done it just a few posts above.
My position is caricatured constantly - I think Wenger can do no wrong, we could lose 10-0 to Chelsea and I'd still defend Wenger (that's pretty much a direct quote from a PnG post) and :blah:
I've said Wenger should be sacked if we don't challenge but I'll assess that at the end of the season, not the start (another opinion which is obvious but has been repeatedly lampooned - mostly by you).
Yes, people get frustrated with your unwillingness to engage in any sort of meaningful debate.
What?! Most of my attempts to do so are met by abuse and WUMming.
And they get angry when you tell them what they think and ignore what they say.
Which is exactly what Globalgunner has done a few posts above and what has happened to me repeatedly.
Is it therefore so difficult to understand why they assume you are a WUM?
Well, given my comments above - yes. All those accusations you make are EXACTLY what others have done repeatedly to me. But I'm the one being accused of WUMming
And while everyone's chucking their 2p in, I'll say Letters is a WUM. But a WUM through the unusual medium of tedious, sheer balance. He's not overly positive or negative. He winds up patience-testing losers that need Arsenal to win the league to feel good about their shit lives. He has my blessing.

If others are repeatedly accusing you of Wumming - don't you ever think the others may be right. Personally doesn't bother me, you have already stated above that you hardly watch us now so I don't know why anyone lets your comments get to them - you probably don't see the monotonous shit that Wenger is now serving up with a squad short of quality so you look at Saturday as a potential "turning point" & proof of progress. We've had so many of these "turning points" you wouldn't believe it. Those of us that watch the team home & away will tell you that come Saturday the ball & chains will be put on certain players coz were playing the mighty Utd ( the Mighty UTD that most other teams have been smashing for the past few years ) & we will either scrape a bore draw or lose to a break away Shrek goal. If we take the lead Wenger will shit it at half time & go defensive. Then when the inevitable Utd goal comes because of us defending too deep, we won't have the players on the pitch to win the game because he replaces our best players with the Arteta's & Flamini's thinking they are good enough to sit back & defend. This is the shit we are now being served, in amongst it comes the joy of the occasional win like Saturday against a pub team, more often though we are pubbing wins against pub teams, drawing them at times having had 75% of the ball & the obvious defeats/draws to the best teams where we "lacked a little quality in the final 3rd" - it will be business as normal against Utd.

No. No I don't. It was a good performance and a good result against a team in form, but of course it wasn't a turning point.
Most of the people who seem to violently disagree with me seem to be disagreeing with a complete caricature of what I actually think.

Well, we'll see. If that happens then yes, same old Arsenal...
But let's actually wait and see. I should point out you were saying the exact same thing before the quarter final at Old Trafford:
http://www.goonersweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3253&page=5
And, to be fair, that's an understandable view. We have and a long and wearying history of cocking up these big games. But we won that one, we won at City, there are just glimmers we can stand up in these games. I saw the Chelsea game as important - it was the first of those big games this season. But it was 0-0 before Dean decided to step in and hand Chelsea the points on a silver platter - one they'd probably bought for him. So I'm not sure we can conclude anything from that result. I see the Utd game as important - it's this sort of game that if we're serious about the title we have to win, simply not losing, while not a disaster, isn't really good enough.
You mean inert?
No, I mean shit. Really shit.

I posted my comments after a 5-2 victory at Leicester because I know what happens next. Most Arsenal fans know what happens next after a decent win - I post this 3 days later after losing to a Greek team who have never won a C.L. game in England in previous 12 years. Can you see why I don't share your thoughts on Wenger maybe getting things right. It aint happening Letters.

Let's see how we do vs Utd, if we balls that up too then yeah, fine, I give up.
It's a slight exaggeration to suggest that every decent win is followed by a poor result.
