Adebayor will be among the top-earners at White Hart Lane, but City will subsidise the 28-year-old's wage, having paid him £175,000 per week.
It is understood Spurs refused to break their strict wage structure to accommodate Adebayor. But with the player refusing to accept a big pay-cut, the Premier League champions were forced to accept having to continue to pay the player the difference between his new wage of around £80,000 and his earnings at City in order to complete the deal

ottenham Hotspur have accepted a bid in excess of £9million from Queens Park Rangers for defender Michael Dawson, Sky Sports sources understand.
It had earlier on Tuesday emerged QPR boss Mark Hughes wanted the centre-back, whose opportunities at Spurs appear limited, and he will now discuss personal terms at Loftus Road.
The move for Dawson is seemingly a response from QPR to their defensively disorganised performance in the 5-0 thrashing by Swansea City on the first day of the season.
And if his chances are to be limited at Tottenham, the 28-year-old former Nottingham Forest player could relish the opportunity of first-team football at QPR while staying in London.
QPR exceptionally poor - Hughes
Dawson was not in Spurs' 18-man squad for their defeat at Newcastle United on the opening day of the Premier League season and faces a tough task to regain a place.
Andre Villas-Boas made William Gallas his captain at St James' Park, Younes Kaboul started alongside the former Arsenal skipper, and summer signing Jan Vertonghen was a substitute.
Tottenham also have high hopes for the future for Steven Caulker, who signed a new four-year contract in July, while they have been linked with Pescara teenager Marco Perotta.

Giovani dos Santos' agent Vicente Montes has claimed the Mexico international is being 'held hostage' by Tottenham.
The 23-year-old forward has never been able to make an impact at White Hart Lane following his £4.7million arrival from Barcelona in 2008.
Dos Santos has spent spells out on loan with Ipswich, Galatasaray and Racing Santander and is keen to leave the North London club on a permanent deal.
Montes claims his client is wanted by a number of clubs in Spain and Italy, but feels the tough negotiating stance taken by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is putting off potential suitors.
"As yet, no concrete offer has arrived. Giovani still has one year left on his contract with Tottenham and the market is currently in a very difficult time," he told calciomercato.it.
Opportunity
"The Spurs chairman is a tough obstacle to overcome, as confirmed by the (Luka) Modric deal.
"Dos Santos is held hostage by Tottenham, but at the end of his contract he'll have the opportunity to agree a deal with another club."
Montes believes that Dos Santos would be happy to move to either Serie A or La Liga, and suggested that a host of clubs were keen to secure his services.
He added: "Several teams have shown an interest in the past, such as AC and Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Genoa and AS Roma.
"Atletico Madrid? Yes, but there are also other interested clubs in Spain, including Sevilla, Espanyol, Granada and Malaga, who asked for information on the player.
"Serie A and La Liga are of great interest to Dos Santos."

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has blasted Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for the manner in which he set about luring Hugo Lloris to England.
The France international goalkeeper completed a switch to Spurs late on transfer deadline day, with a £10million fee believed to have changed hands.
Lyon were reluctantly forced to bid farewell to the highly-rated shot-stopper, with a medical passed and personal terms agreed on Friday.
The Ligue 1 outfit have, however, reacted angrily to seeing a deal being pushed through, with Aulas accusing Levy of going back on previous agreements between the two clubs.
He said: "We have had people speaking all night with Daniel Levy. He talks a lot and goes back on what we've agreed in writing.
Troubled
"Agreements have not at all been respected. We've done what we can. Hugo has been troubled by the difficulty in these negotiations.
"He's one of the best in Europe in his position. It's been very, very difficult.
"I've got 25 years of experience as president of a club and it's our 16th participation in European competition in a row."But this is very rare in the football world.
"The negotiation with the Tottenham directors has been the hardest I have ever had to undergo in these 25 years.
Contradicted
"We had email exchanges which have been contradicted, so that's made it very complicated. It's difficult.
"The Tottenham board's theory is to explain that the economic market is very hard and so we have to get used to renegotiating.
"But for us, who are attached to a player of the quality of Hugo Lloris, and such is the value of the transfer, that causes us to ask questions.
"The first negotiation was at the start of the window, about a month-and-a-half ago, through an intermediary who was a French lawyer, who lives in Lyon.
"And then nothing for about a month-and-a-half. The negotiation then picked up again about a week ago."

Tottenham's partnership with Real Madrid has got off to a rocky start after Andre Villas-Boas revealed he has not spoken to Jose Mourinho for a long time and does not even have his former mentor's phone number.
Tottenham announced on Monday that as part of the deal which saw Luka Modric move to the Bernabeu, a partnership had been agreed that would "see the two clubs together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships."
Yet any co-operation between the two managers appears unlikely for now thanks to Villas-Boas' frosty relationship with Mourinho.
Villas-Boas was one of Mourinho's most trusted lieutenants during their time together at Chelsea and Inter Milan, but their relationship soured when the 34-year-old left the San Siro to take over lowly Portuguese side Acadimica de Coimbra in 2009.
"It's a club co-operation," Villas-Boas told a press conference when asked about the partnership with Mourinho's side. "I was working for Jose for five years but we haven't spoken for quite some time."
When asked about the possibility that Spurs could benefit by loaning or buying up and coming players from the nine-time European champions, Villas Boas' response was not exactly encouraging.
"I haven't got his number," he said.
Villas-Boas has taken a number of steps to thaw the relationship between the pair in recent times.
Mourinho was one of the people he paid tribute to after winning the Europa League with Porto in 2011 and spoke in glowing terms about his compatriot just last week, describing him as "one of the best managers in the world."
It is unclear whether Mourinho is willing to rebuild bridges with Villas-Boas for the sake of the partnership between the two clubs.
Now the transfer window has shut, Villas-Boas must turn his attention to tomorrow's home game against Norwich.
The 34-year-old has brought two decent displays out of his new side, but Spurs have only taken one point from their clashes against Newcastle and West Brom.
The Portuguese admits he was frustrated to concede an injury-team equaliser against the Baggies last weekend, but is not overly concerned about his team's poor start.
"We wanted to start better," Villas-Boas said.
"One point out of a possible six is something that disappoints us, but we played two excellent games against both teams.
"We have to improve on our concentration levels and take the games through with results that are more positive to us."
The Canaries put a huge dent in Tottenham's Champions League ambitions last season when they won 2-1 at White Hart Lane in April.
The Norfolk side have struggled so far this season under new manager Chris Hughton, losing 5-0 to Fulham on the opening day of the season before claiming a 1-1 home draw against QPR last weekend.
Villas-Boas thinks Hughton's men will go in to tomorrow's game with confidence, however, after they registered their first win of the season against S****horpe in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
"It has been a difficult start for them," Villas-Boas said.
"But the win in the League Cup is something that will inspire them and give them more confidence and they have strengthened by signing a good player - Alex Tettey, who I tried to sign for Porto."
Villas-Boas could hand Dembele his debut tomorrow and a knee injury to Younes Kaboul means Steven Caulker could get his first Barclays Premier League start for the club.

France manager Didier Deschamps has expressed his concern that Hugo Lloris could fail to oust Brad Friedel as Tottenham No 1.
The France captain made a transfer deadline day switch from Lyon to Tottenham as part of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's late spending spree at White Hart Lane.
But Friedel produced an impressive display against Norwich on Saturday that brought praise from his manager Andre Villas-Boas - and a warning for Lloris.
"When you transfer it's not written in the contract that you have to play," said Villas-Boas.
"He has to compete against three good goalkeepers and at the moment Brad is doing extremely well. He deserves to be playing and he'll continue to do so."
Those remarks have had reverberations across the Channel with Deschamps curious as to the future role at Spurs for the France No 1.Although the newly-appointed boss of Les Bleus does not want to create a problem from nothing, he admits it could soon be something he needs to think about.
"I saw what Villas-Boas said. These statements surprised me," said Deschamps, speaking at Clairefontaine on Monday.
"If I comment, it will make an echo on the other side of the Channel. I'm not going to create a problem that I don't have today.
"I have other problems to solve but, if it happens, it deserves consideration.
He added: "I do not want Hugo put in this situation. He did not appreciate the statements.
"You all know the value of Hugo. He is focused on these two games (for France) and I hope that after it will go well for him."

They have the greatest On Paper squad and team ever.
By adding names like Lloris and Dembele, they have improved their On Paper credentials.
It doesn't matter how the team plays on the pitch or how the players actually fit in or if they even feature at all, there can be no denying that On Paper they are better than most teams in history.
Apart from Juande Ramos's all-conquering On Paper team and Crooknap's 2011-2012 title-challenging On Paper team.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Andre Villas-Boas has hit back at apparent criticism from predecessor Harry Redknapp.
Former Spurs boss Redknapp, who was sacked this summer and replaced by Villas-Boas, over the weekend questioned the approach of managers who use '70-page dossiers'.
It was perceived the approach would 'baffle' players and leave them confused as to what their role was in a club.
But speaking after Sunday's impressive 3-1 Premier League win over Reading, his first victory as Tottenham boss, ex-Chelsea flop Villas-Boas defended his methods.
"In the end it's not about the manager, it's about the players," he said.
Concentration
"Different kinds of managers have different leadership styles and the way they go about his business."
Villas-Boas was otherwise delighted with the win over Reading, which was secured by two Jermain Defoe goals either side of a Gareth Bale effort before Hal Robson-Kanu's consolation.
"I'm extremely happy with the performance," said Tottenham's boss. "The players showed tremendous commitment, responsibility and concentration.
"They understood that we have been working so hard and they deserved to get this first win so the way they came into the game with that focus of wanting to put things in their place was very pleasing to see.
"They kicked out the anxiety and played in such a confident and concentrated way that they were able to express their talents and have fun in the game."

Tottenham are monitoring Andy Carroll’s form at West Ham as the White Hart Lane club consider strengthening their own attacking options.
The 23-year-old England striker is on loan from Liverpool with the option of a permanent £17million deal next summer.
Spurs would be unable to swoop for Carroll in January due to regulations preventing players appearing for more than two teams during the same domestic season. The North Londoners are, however, considering a summer move for the England striker should he build on his impressive start at Upton Park.
Sportsmail understands that Tottenham scouts have been impressed with the Geodie's commanding displays since his shock loan move from Anfield and, should he begin to add goals to his performances, Carroll could be the subject of firmer interest at the end of the season. However, Liverpool are open to offers as they look to finance further rebuilding in January.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has Jermain Defoe and the unsettled Emmanuel Adebayor but is exploring options.
The Portuguese manager came in for fierce criticism from Spurs fans on Saturday when he swapped one striker for another with his side chasing the game.
As Defoe made his exit straight down the tunnel in the 57th-minute, boos rang out around White Hart Lane.
Summer signing Adebayor was returning to the squad after missing the past three games with illness and a back injury.
The Togolese striker has only played five times this season and is yet to start a match, with Villas-Boas preferring to play Defoe up front alone with three attacking midfielders behind him.

Tottenham have been accused of "insulting people's intelligence" by attempting to justify the chanting of the word "Yid" by their supporters.
The head of the Society of Black Lawyers says he will complain formally to police if Spurs fail to take action within a fortnight to stop the chants.
In a statement, Spurs said their fans used the term as a "defence mechanism" against anti-Semitism from rivals.
But Peter Herbert said this "wouldn't make sense to a six-year-old".
Oldham footballer Dean Furman, who is Jewish, has also told BBC Sport there should be a "zero tolerance" approach and fans using the chant should be immediately thrown out of stadiums. However, Piara Powar, executive director of the Football Against Racism in Europe organisation, has criticised Herbert for being naive and questioned whether he properly understands football.
Some Tottenham fans have historically referred to themselves as the "Yid Army", in reference to the club's Jewish supporters.
The term is used in a chant by some fans at White Hart Lane and can often be seen on flags and banners at the ground.
But Herbert told BBC Sport: "Clearly Tottenham have a distance to travel before they learn of the offence that is being caused.
"If you had a group of Afro-Caribbean supporters using the 'N-word', even as a 'defence mechanism', it would clearly be completely unacceptable. There are young supporters present when the chants are used.
"Use of the word, even in this way, could be seen by some as justifying other people using the term."
He has warned the north London club that unless they take action by 20 November, he will report "a racist incident" to the Metropolitan Police. Earlier on Wednesday, Spurs released a statement arguing that "real anti-Semitic abuse, such as hissing to simulate the noise of gas chambers, is the real evil and the real offence".
It continued: "Our fans adopted the chant as a defence mechanism in order to own the term and thereby deflect anti-Semitic abuse. Our position on this topic is very clear. The club does not tolerate any form of racist or abusive chanting.
"Our guiding principle in respect of the 'Y-word' is based on the point of law itself - the distinguishing factor is the intent with which it is used, ie if it is used with the deliberate intention to cause offence. This has been the basis of prosecutions of fans of other teams to date.
"They do not use the term to others to cause any offence, they use it a chant amongst themselves.
"We believe this is the area that requires a determined and concerted effort from all parties and where we seek greater support to eradicate."
Oldham and South Africa midfielder Furman backed Herbert by saying the term should not be used at all.
"I understand that it can be used as a nickname in some quarters, but if it's important to stop the use of the word then you can't use it either way," he told BBC Sport.
"You can't use it as a nickname or a chant for Tottenham because abusive chants will come back. The more they use it, the more opposition fans will use it. If it is banned altogether then hopefully we won't get the abuse at all. It needs to be tackled in the same way as racist chanting. "The sanctions need to be high and then it will be stamped out of the game for good. We need zero tolerance."
"The anti-Semitic abuse is sung on the terraces and it's vital that anyone caught singing these chants is immediately removed from the stadium.
"People will be singing those songs without the knowledge of what went on in the Holocaust, for instance. Knowledge is everything and the sooner we can get these songs stamped out of our game the better."
But Powar criticised Herbert for his intervention. "I think this is where Peter Herbert and the Society of Black Lawyers are naive," he told BBC Sport.
"They perhaps don't know football. To think 20 to 30 years of complex identity will be cleared up overnight is wrong. And I have to say that the Jewish community are split on their use of that term.
"Many young members say it's a badge of appreciation and gives them pride. Some older members says that's not true, it's a derogatory term and goes back to a period they don't want to remember."

This bollix really gets to me. Any racial 'slur' depends upon the context in which it is used. The N word has long since been appropriated amongst a section of the Afro Caribbean community in the States - it started as the same type of defence mechanism, is now used more out of habit - and while it remains offensive to some - can hardly be regarded as racist when used in the context that the appropriators use it.
Similarly, the word yid -when used by Spuds - or in fact the majority of football fans who use it - including us - is not being used in a racial context. It is being used in a tribalist way. I am sure that the Spuds used it originally by way of defiance - now it is generally a word that used in a football context to identify Spurs fans. I do not dispute that it is offensive to some - or that used outside a football context it might take on a very different meaning - but looking for offence where none is intended is the scourge of our times.
I don't accept that Spurs supporters referring to themselves as yids encourages anti-semetism - and I don't think that the vast majority of fans who might refer to the Spurs fans as yids would have anything in their minds but identifying - or even denigrating - them as Spurs supporters, not Jews. I think that the focus should be on real racial hatred - which surely exists - rather than trying to sanitise in a politically correct way - which this is - and which does very little, INHO to deal with the real problem.
i think you have to have a zero tolerance if you want to remove any sort of racial/cultural abuse from the grounds, otherwise there will always be some sort of angle some dodgy lawyer can wrangle if it goes to the courts.
football is pretty precious when it comes to change, probably because it is the national sport, so everyone is very protective of changing things. football technology is a similar case and sometimes the sport needs to be dragged into change rather than convinced.
this seems a bit heavy handed but i support their ideals and let's face it, will it really hurt anyone NOT to be saying that at a football match?

I don't disagree with you in principle. I dispute that Spurs fansand most others are being racis by using the term yid.
Any zero tolerance starts with the fans themselves. Noone's going to get arrested for racism unless they are reported by fellow spectators. And most fans in this country will report behaviour that is overtly racist. Which is why we don't see the problems here any more that are still so prevalent overseas. Where does zero tolerance start and end, anyway. if I'm called a black bastard in jest by my mate who I've gone to the football with, should he be kicked out of the ground?
I don't knock zero tolerance per se - but zero tolerance does not stop racism. Education and development stops racism.

of course, you won't fundamentally change anything without education but the old mentality of attending football matches needs to be modernised a bit - it is also the reason why nowhere near enough black/asian people go to matches because there is still something of a fear factor about crossing certain 'boundaries'.
maybe they're going about this the wrong way but at least something is being done instead of just the usual procrastination from the authorities and if anything, it will give a kick up the arse to clubs and fans that this is being treated seriously, instead of just posters/t-shirts and banners. you don't always get the perfect solution the first time round, so hopefully this is just a move toward something meaningful. it is footballs job to stop it taking place in their grounds, like it is an employers responsibility to do so in their company. on a wider scale it comes down to schooling, governments etc to provide the real education to change the root of it all.

They call themselves yids so we call them fucking yids. Oh no, wait. We don't call them that any more because some third party who knows fuck all about football wants to poke his nose in. And the use of "nose" in this context is being used metaphorically to signify unwarranted interference rather than prejudice.
So this bloke from the black lawyers club. Can I actually go around saying "black lawyers" or is that offensive? And if the latter, how come it's offensive when I use the word but certain other people are free to say "lawyers" without criticism?

True - I just wonder if they are after the wrong target when it comes to the Yid army? Strangely enough, that is part of a movement that has encouraged Jewish people to get behind football - to feel some sense of identity? Paradoxically a lot of black and Asian people support Spurs - as they do Arsenal. Given their percentage of the population and cultural background, I'd say both groups are fairly well represented amongst football crowds. Its black peoples' lack of representation in management that illustrates perfectly for me where the real issue with racism lies. Zero tolerance won't do anything to change this.
They call themselves yids so we call them fucking yids. Oh no, wait. We don't call them that any more because some third party who knows fuck all about football wants to poke his nose in. A Jewish spokesman for the Tottenham Supporters' Trust has defended fans' rights to use chants that have been described as anti-semitic at matches.
The Society of Black Lawyers (SBL) has called for Spurs fans who chant "Yid Army" to be prosecuted.
But Daniel Wynne told BBC Sport: "I accept what the word means, but I don't find the chant offensive when used by Tottenham fans.
"In that context it is used positively as a call to arms, a badge of honour."
Tottenham's chanting of the Y-word, a reference to the club's Jewish supporters, is in the spotlight after SBL chairman Peter Herbert said unless the club or the Football Association took a stand on the matter he would report it to the Metropolitan Police.
Herbert received support from Jewish comedian David Baddiel, who argued in the Daily Mail that Spurs fans had no right to redefine the meaning of a historically offensive term for Jews.
In a statement, Spurs insisted the chanting, which dates back to the 1970s, was a "defence-mechanism" against taunts from rival fans.
At Thursday's Europa League match against Maribor, supporters responded to Herbert's call by chanting "we sing what we want" and "Y-word Army" throughout the match.
Wynne, a former chairman of the Supporters' Trust Board, says despite his heritage he willingly joins in the Y-word singing at matches.
"My father escaped Nazi Europe and settled in England," he said. "I've been to Auschwitz, I've been to the Anne Frank House, I've been to Yad Vashem [the World Centre for Holocaust Research] in Jerusalem. My wife's family also had to be uprooted.
"If someone wants to come and throw that word at me in the street, I would be upset by it and if I thought Tottenham fans were using it offensively then I would be campaigning shoulder to shoulder with David Baddiel and others to stop them using it. But the fact of the matter is we are not.
"When Spurs fans sing it is just a name, in the same way that the black community use certain words for themselves and the same way that the homosexual community use certain words for themselves.
"By taking ownership of that word, by using it ourselves, it shows we are not bothered by what people are singing about us."
Tottenham say they accept the use of the Y-word as long as it is not intended to carry offence, although no merchandise bearing the term is allowed to be sold in the club shop.
In a statement released to the BBC on Friday, the FA said it would work continue to work with the club.
"The FA acts on all reported incidents of discrimination and we continue to work with both Tottenham Hotspur and the Crown Prosecution Service on the matter of anti-Semitic chanting," an FA spokesman said.
"The FA takes all matters of discrimination with the utmost seriousness and encourages the reporting of any such incidents through the appropriate channels."
Wynne argues that the focus of any crackdown should be directed towards other clubs' fans, who use the Y-word as a term of abuse towards Spurs.
"I feel the point is being missed be a number of people," he said. "They need to focus their attentions on Chelsea fans, West Ham fans and a number of other clubs who use it in a derogatory way. That is what has to stop."
Wynne's views were largely echoed by Bernie Kingsley, a member of the Tottenham Supporters' Trust board.
Kingsley, however, said he would not chant the word himself because he is aware of the offence it can cause.
"I don't use the word at all because I have very close friends who are Jewish and they don't like it but I think a lot of the arguments being put forward by Spurs fans are perfectly legitimate. " Kingsley told BBC Sport.
Kingsley believes the SBL are wasting their time in pushing for the police to prosecute.
"You can't stop 5,000-10,000 people from chanting it," he said. "For those people it isn't racist because they are not using it in that context."
So they want to call themselves that but take offence when others do it?
Ok....

Out-of-favour Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has hinted he could be open to a move in January to find more first-team opportunities.
Lloris has been restricted to just one Premier League appearance since arriving in North London from Lyon in the summer, with manager Andre Villas-Boas preferring Brad Friedel between the sticks.
His outings for Spurs have mostly come in the UEFA Europa League and Carling Cup, with reports suggesting the keeper is growing frustrated with his bit-part role.
While the France international says he has been made to feel welcome at the club, he admits playing regularly is his main priority.
When asked about a possible winter departure or loan move, he told L'Equipe: "I remain a competitor. I want to be on the pitch.

Gareth Bale is prepared to tell Tottenham he wants to leave for Real Madrid in the summer, according to Goal.com.
The winger has repeatedly been linked with a move to the La Liga to either reigning champions Real or Barcelona. Jose Mourinho has made the Welshman his priority target this summer and is ready to shatter the British transfer record to land him.
Bale only signed a four-year contract in June and but wants to realise his enormous potential by playing regular Champions League football - and Spurs could be willing to listen to offers in the region of £50 million.
The White Hart Lane club would be more likely to sell the 23-year-old to Real - with whom they have a partnership agreement - than a rival Premier League club. However, the Spanish giants are not understood to have first refusal on the player.
Tottenham value Bale at around £50million, which would represent a huge profit on a player they signed from Southampton for £5million in 2007.
It is unlikely that Barcelona would meet that asking price, although the player has also attracted interest from mega-rich Manchester City in the past.
Speaking of his interest in playing for one of the La Liga greats, Bale said: “If you said to any young player that you could play for Barcelona or Real would they turn it down? Probably not.
"If a bid was accepted you would obviously have to seriously consider it.”

Manchester United (http://topics.skysports.com/Manchester+United/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and City are on course to once again duel for the title, while Chelsea (http://topics.skysports.com/chelsea/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif are favourites to finish third to leave Tottenham battling it out for the final UEFA Champions League place.
"We have to pass one more step to be on the same level as the top three and I don't know when it is going to happen," said Spurs captain Gallas. (http://topics.skysports.com/William+Gallas/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif
"I hope it will be this season but it is a shame because when we get very near, something always happens and we draw or lose. In our squad we have some players that have experience now so I don't think it is about a lack of maturity.
"For example, Sunday we did almost everything right but they scored that goal which killed us. It is difficult to explain but sometimes you need luck."
Spurs have now conceded 10 goals in the final 15 minutes in league matches this season, and Gallas believes the midweek Europa League win over Panathinaikos took its toll at Everton.
"Was tiredness an issue? Yes," the Frenchman added. "We played on Thursday. Even if we had three days to recover it is not easy, but when you want to win some competitions you have to play every game.
"However, sometimes it is not easy, especially at this time of year because we play so many games but that is not an excuse. What we have to know is that the game is never finished until the referee blows his whistle."

i think there should be a change to yellow card rule. if you get booked more then twice for diving in one season, its a three match ban. straight away, doesnt matter if you dont ahve 5 yellows etc etc.
the problem bale has now, like suarez and young is that they dived before and conned refs, who know dont beleive them. the boy who cryed wolf etc etc. there is no one anyone can blame but bale himself.

"I thought he was fouled against Sunderland and didn't dive. He goes down very easily but he is so quick and the slightest touch when you are that fast is bound to send you to the floor. I think he is hard done by as he is quite an honest player. I don't think he is a diver."Lawro

Someone posted this on Glory Glory
I started work at a new place about a month ago. Anyway, today I talked footy with my boss for the first time (she asked me how my weekend was and told her it was good apart from Spurs not making CL). She then went onto tell me that her son, who she'd previously told me was a charter plane pilot, flew the squad over to Wales for the game against Swansea a few weeks back. According to him, they were a fairly rowdy, unlikeable lot....she said her son had flown both Arsenal and Chelsea previously, who, according to him were as good as gold (John Terry the personification of politeness apparently). Anyway, she said that the 'Welsh one' (and when I asked "who, Gareth Bale?", she said "yes, that's the one") asked her son if it was okay for them to "stick on the wog box", before breaking into a sheepish smile and saying"oops, we're not allowed to say that anymore cos its racist innit" and then laughing his arse off. He then proceeded to head to the back of the plane with the boombox and start dancing with a few of the others.
Other choice selections included the son (who doesn't know anything about football) asking what position Bale played and whether he was any good, which pissed Bale right off but apparently made a few of the others laugh.
Could all be nonsense of course but I don't see that she had any reason to make it up. I know footballers acting like pricks is not exactly earth shattering news but it did leave me a little disappointed......he comes across as such a nice, unassuming lad on the telly!

Always wonder same.
Bale has used that very same tactic of cutting in from the right and unleashing a screamer so often, you'd think these useless twats would have learnt by now how to nullify this one trick pony.
I watch very little spud matches (read - none at all) so have no idea really, but apparently he is predominately left footed and hopeless with the right? If so, then players should be able to nullify him by making sure he can't cut inside and keeping him on their left
No idea what that number 31 (is it?) was doing in that gif. Completely the wrong thing it would seem, plus seemed to have a little jig to go along with his half arsed attempt at intercepting Bale
Ollie the Optimist
21-05-2013, 08:22 AM
all you have to do with bale is push him onto his right foot and dont back off allowing him to cut inside to his left and he wont do anything or play a sucididal high line where he runs through like walcott.
Grebbo
21-05-2013, 10:04 AM
So you just need to keep Bale on his right foot? Fair enough. But that means Bale just needs to get the ball on his left foot. What's more likely - Bale being able to get the ball on his left foot or the defender keeping it on his right? If Bale's on form then he's impossible to defend against.
He's an absolute chimp but he's pretty damn awesome tbh. He could become scary good.
Marc Overmars

It's easier said than done, some players are just freaks who become adept at doing the same predictable thing over and over (Henry's mini combers anyone?). Bale is a tank and that little cut inside to gain half a yard is all he needs because no one is going to catch him.
However goals like the one against West Ham can be stopped if someone actually bothers to go out to him.

True, he does that movement onto his left foot so quickly it's really hard to stop him. Moreover, if try too hard to force him onto the right I think he's more than good enough to go down that side and put in a cross with the outside of his left foot. He's much more than a one trick pony, he genuinely is a world class player, although not near the standard of Ronaldo or Messi.

It's mass stupidity. The media go on about him so everyone else falls for it and goes on about him then it starts feeding on itself and pretty soon a mega myth is in full blow. Sometimes it blows so hard a shite like Bale can win POTY across the board for being about 2% as influential as RvC. The awards this year were daylight robbery, it's the mass stupidity thing. Bale will stay I think because he'll be shown up if he steps out of his comfort zone.

it's called fear. It's what all the best players impose on the weaker opposition who do not have the confidence to presume his next move, no matter how obvious it may be.
They move towards him, he slips it past them and is clear on goal, or he slips in a team mate - so they hold position, hoping that the onus stays with him and they reduce his options. Problem is, the guy can ping it in for fun from outside the box, so it's a tactic that doesn't really work.

Which will then be reinvested on the team (they'll never build a stadium) and if done right, they'll become stronger. A big IF, but it won't take much improvement to usurp us.
If they sell, then the world will know they've got a truck load to spend, so every selling club will raise the price, just like when Liverpool sold Torres.

Liverpool made a huge mistake.
My point is more to do with them reinvesting the money, they'll not collapse like Ollie hopes, because they'll do things with the proceeds. If we invest like the Club is indicating we may, then yep, I agree, their chances are minimal. If the Club are spouting the usual hot air, then the best we can hope for is to edge them out again.

Why?
They had Bale last season didn't they? How did that work out for them?
Next season I doubt they'll be such a one man team tbh

Paulinho for near £20m and they're being linked with a move for Yilmaz for £20m aswell.

I'm sure Paulinho was the one Inter wanted, and offloaded Coutinho to free up funds for him.

Doesn't mean they'll be any good. Look at Santos, worst ever. Everyone crapped their pants when van der Vaulk, or whatever his name was, arrived. Modric was in that team too. They still didn't trump us and they won't next season either.
