Yeah, this is huge for Arteta’s reputation - gives him instant status and credibility - and that makes it huge for us. We may not have much to work with this summer, but we’ll at least now be an attractive option for talented players - we’re a place where you have a chance of winning something and getting noticed, and we have a coach who has shown he can improve you as a player.

Before today only one team in England had won the FA Cup more than us - the Arsenal Women’s team! Now we’re even.
Game changer was Arteta telling his CM’s to sort their shit out.
As soonas they started filling the hole it was ours.

He should have been off, but the initial foul was outside the box.

I think pretty much every PL ref is tragically bad.
The daft thing is, in recent games against the Spuds, Brighton and Leicester, some players commited multiple more aggressive fouls and didn't even get booked. Some even commited them in succession in front of the ref right after a yellow and weren't punished. They're all just so bad.

Counts as a pen if the foul continues into the box, which it did. Auba tried to stay on his feet, that's what won the pen. Sutton's an epic twat for suggesting he dived. It was the total opposite.

Really interesting reading what the players have been saying - there’s been a general feeling that these players were uncoachable and would simply down tools or go on strike if we actually made them work for their money, but they’re fucking loving it! They love the discipline and the correction and the clear direction, and they’re loving feeling and acting like professionals again.
I really feel that this is vindication for what Arteta has been trying to do in terms of resetting the culture at this club. We now have players literally in tears because of what representing this club means to them. Loanees and players who had one foot out the door in January throwing themselves in front of shots. No-hopers and utility players doing a solid job wherever they’re played. It’s shame there’s still a couple of hold-outs - we could have really done with a fired-up Özil and a more professional Guendouzi - but that’s on them. As Arseblog says, look at Ainsley, who looked like he’d been frozen out for being late to training, and who swallowed his pride and got his head down and worked - who’s got a medal this morning and who hasn’t?
Until we’d sorted the culture out there was literally no point in signing anyone to improve the team - the casual, unprofessional and ultimately toxic atmosphere would have ruined anyone we’d recruited. Now, we can bring new players into this club and they’ll immediately know what is required of them - the manager will enforce it and the other players will enforce it. They won’t walk in and see Mesut Özil sitting around, doing fuck all for £18m a year and think that’s ok. We can build on this.

Laying the foundations was the most important thing for Arteta to do this season, and I think it's fair to say he has done that. He still has a HUGE job ahead of him but as you said, without the foundations and the right culture there's no point to anything else.
It won't be plain sailing but I'm looking forward to the journey we're on. :scarf:

Yes Arteta has proven his credentials. As the kids would say, put some respect on his name! Back him and see where he can take us. He’s more than earned the right to have a go now.
Standards at this club have been non existent for a long time, mostly due to a fading Wenger and a joker in Emery. It shows the importance of a personality like Arteta who definitely carries himself in a way the players respect. Emery was heavily disliked by the team for dropping Ozil, I bet none of them fuckers would dare question Mikel for doing the same.

There are days as a football fan where you just feel at ease and at peace with the world. This is one of those days, I was very close to welling up at the final whistle.
Arsenal

Famously, I'm increasingly jaded by Arsenal and football in general. I don't watch that many games now. Wenger going piqued my interest somewhat but this season has been such a bloody car crash I got a bit fed up of it again.
Always loved the FA Cup though and feel privileged to have been at 6 Cup Finals from '93 to 2005 (7 if you include the '93 replay). Just think about that for a minute - we are a load of spoiled twats. How many football fans get to see their team at that many FA Cup Finals? Only fans of 3 or 4 clubs in the country would get that chance. For many fans it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Despite my general ennui with football I've always followed our FA Cup campaigns a bit more closely. Was pleased when we won the Quarter Final but when I saw the other teams who were left I thought "Oh well, it was fun while it lasted". Gave us zero chance against City, I still don't know where that performance came from. City have been a bit brittle at times this year but we still needed a really good disciplined defensive performance which I didn't think were capable of. Yesterday I thought we had a chance but it was hard to call. Wasn't too despondent when we went 1-0 down as I felt we'd score but we were wobbling a bit and I feared that Premier League Arsenal had shown up. But we played our way back in and by half time we had them on the ropes. Things did go for us a bit, I don't think the decisions were too bad against Chelsea but certainly with the injuries they kept getting it did feel like the gods* were looking down on us kindly. They were dancing in the streets of Letters' house at the final whistle
(*not that they exist, obviously).
Must admit I've been wobbling a but with what I'm continuing to call "all this nonsense" going on in the world, so yesterday was a much needed lift.
Will get some papers today to continue to bask in the reflected glory!

Poor old Spuds. Always in our shadow.
I also love the fact Nketiah has won more than Kane.
Nketiah did the double, has a league winners' medal with Leeds.

Yeah there's a nice little video of AMN on the offish site looking a million miles happier than he did earlier in the season amd saying he's loving it at RB and happy to play amywhere to get the minutes
I thought Arteta was waving his dick around too much but it's paid off, you can't argue with beating Citeh and Chelski to lift the cup
Good on all of 'em, though i'd still flog xhaka and mustafi while their reputations are no longer rock bottom, they're not good enough for where we want to go
Well we ain’t shifting Mustafi any time soon! He’s torn his hamstring off the bone, or something, so no one’s coming in for him. Kola and So Crates look like the obvious defensive casualties right now - 200k/wk between them for one guy who can’t pass or defend, and one who never plays.
Not sure where I stand with Xhaka now? I honestly don’t think he’s one of the problem players anymore, and I’ve been happy with how he’s been playing under Arteta, but then again if we bring in the CM I want then I don’t think he makes the starting XI, and 100k/wk is a lot to be paying a bench-warmer? Depending on who we bring in, I don’t think he’s an urgent problem.

:scarf:
Oh God yeah - all of the same problems are still there. We might be getting the most out of what we have, but what we have is still riddled with volatile players that could self-destruct at any moment, and lacks anything to link the front and back halves of the team. There’s still financial issues, contractual issues and recruitment issues to deal with, and I think Arteta is still putting his team together, but at least he shouldn’t have to spend quite so much time putting out fires and coaxing / forcing the players to act like professionals next season. He won’t have to constantly look over his shoulders to make sure everyone is behaving.

Lets not get carried away. Midfield is probably where our quality is lowest and he exemplifies it. Xhaka is what you have when you want to just survive in the top half of the EPL. You will never touch the top echelons of the game of anywhere with an immobile lump like Xhaka starting every game. The best Xhaka is like the worst Henderson. He is completely 1 dimensional. Lets give him the heave ho, not another extension. Its Partey time lets get Ivan Rakitic too if he is available.

Agreed and agreed. Look, just because I don’t have quite the same animosity towards him as you guys, doesn’t mean I don’t want to upgrade. Like I said, he doesn’t get in my starting XI if we sign the players I want. He’s too one-footed and too immobile to be the engine for a top side.
If it were up to me I’d blow everything on CM this summer and leave the rest for another window: secure Ceballos any way we can, even if it’s another loan; bring in a dominant, athletic presence (Partey or someone like); bring in a playmaker; and bring Smith Rowe back into the first team. Do all of that and Xhaka is no longer that much of a problem - if he wants to stay and fight for his place then he’ll provide experienced cover and an option if we ever need that kind of deep passer, but if he wants guaranteed football elsewhere, or if we need to sell to cut costs or raise funds then that’s also fine. As long as the end result is that we’re not 100% reliant on him all of the live-long time then I’m easy either way.
Edit: should probably move this to the transfer thread, tbh

They're cursed to be shit
The toilet bowl sums them up - zillions on a new stadium only for them to be a laughing stock (again)
They bottled a champions league final, and take on Moaninho who's a has-been and as full of shit as the club
And a shit area with retard fans, though i guess there quite a few other clubs you could say that about

Say what you like about Arteta, but he is tactically an elite manager in the making IMO. This isn't a one-off either, he got both the semis and final spot on with his team selection and tactics.
Considering he's only been in the job a few months, our mid to end of season results against the top 4 sides have been near flawless, we have basically beaten all of the top 4 sides...and none of these victories have been lucky or even controversial IMO.
If Arteta is given funds (relative to our wealth) and if he uses them wisely I think this team could have a lot of potential, we all know where the problems are.
Saturday despite not really holding any great significance was actually a very important result for the progression of this team along with the semi-final victory over City.
P.S.
I find it amusing the media seem to be going out of there way to give us any kind of praise and are quite to point out Chelsea's injuries etc.
