I know we do not post these threads at the moment.
However, Pepe has finished the season well and we haven't got Europa Conference League (Thank the Lord). Hobson's choice, finish above the scum and play pub teams in Europe? Or not ......

It was a pretty good performance today and a good result.
It’s been a complete mess of a season but we ended well so...I think Arteta should go but it doesn’t sound like he’s going to so I guess all we can do is hope we carry some of this momentum on to next season and do some decent business in the summer.

Having no fans in attendance saved Arteta I think. Very lucky to have another crack at it next season so it absolutely has to be better. Must get back into the CL as a bare minimum requirement.
Hopefully a positive summer and we can actually hit the ground running for once.

I think he'll get to Xmas, if no significant improvement it will be curtains. There have been some mitigating factors but that won't be the case next season.

Maybe he deserves till Christmas.
It has been overall a good end to the season.
MO mentioned this taking arbitrary sections of a season, and I agree that flawed and the season has as a whole been a mess. But in theory the end of the season is more relevant than the start and could be a better indication of where we are.
I wouldn’t mind if someone better comes along but it sounds like we are stuck with Arteta so I guess we’ll have to see how we start next year.

I believe Arteta is relieved we did not get European Pub Football. We can purely concentrate on domestic competitions now.

He should be relieved he's still in his job after such a miserable season, i don't know why you're all giving the guy such an easy ride

I would have grinned and bared the EL again but I’m delighted we didn’t qualify for that farmers cup.
The calendar has basically been non-stop for 12 months since the restart if you consider the Euro’s too. A lighter schedule next season will be welcome but we must make the most of it.

I had a look at that thing which Spurs qualified for.
It does sound bloody awful.
Glad we didn’t qualify for it.

From what I gather the spuds will have to play more games than they did to qualify for the Europa group stages this year :yikes: though is does give some consolation that we've now done it to them two years in a row :good:

It is possibly an extra 17 games should you get to the final.
Absolute nonsense for a made up trophy designed to give farmers a taste of European football. We’ve dodged a bullet.

Hopefully spuffs will have to play their conference games on a Friday. Can't possibly have clashes with the CL and EL games - precious TV sponsorship money at stake.
They can just play their PL games on a Tuesday evening, or something.

Next season we enter the League Cup in round 2.
That’s a sackable offence tbh

i agree
i was really pissed off yesterday though, that we were so close to being above spuds, plus it was them that kept us out of Europe for the first time in 25 years or whatever, but still it's true that being in the conference would be a complete pain and so good luck to them.
without K**t they're already going to struggle and the extra games won't help

I guess it adds a certain amount of jeopardy for anyone hovering around 6th-10th? You can't just be casually shit now and treat yourself to a year out of Europe to reset - there's a serious landmine in there now if you don't put the effort in!

Like yourself and many other Gooners, I was really annoyed when the table changed at 4.45 (The writing was on the wall at 2-2 because Leicester were going to push forward for the win).
However, on reflection, I am very glad that they got the Europa Pub Trophy to contend with, as Letters pointed out, it could be an extra 17 games.
I am happy that St Totterings Day is on ice until next year!:patrice:

We kept ourselves out of Europe by being rubbish for the majority of the season. Couldn’t care less about Spurs or St Totts day when the only bragging right is “haha we’re slightly less shit than you”.

I'll admit, for all my reasoning before the game, and as glad as I am to have dodged the euro conference bullet today, I still felt my blood starting to boil when I heard that spurs had taken the lead yesterday! You just can't turn it on and off like a tap...

I do too but after a day of trolling you wake up to the reality that we ended up qualifying for a shit European competition which no one cares about.
And, honestly, it is a pathetic crumb of comfort to cling to.
It’s the sort of thing we used to laugh at Spurs for.

Agreed, I was briefly annoyed. I didn’t think Spurs would get a result and when we were 2-0 up and Spurs went 2-1 down I was putting the bunting up.
Annoying.
But, in the cold light of day, it’s probably for the best.

It pretty much says it all when not one of the spurs fans I know has tried to gloat.

 The Spurs fans I know are united with Arsenal ones in being glad to see the back of this season, I think most people are just glad it’s over.

yeah season hasn't been the best and probably Spurs winning has done us a favour as we don't have to waste time on a pointless competition. it will mess up Spurs next season as the new manager will have less time during the week to work with his/her team.

Agreed. Finishing below Spurs still grates. Hate being in a place where we are justifying finishing a place lower than seemed possible earlier in the day.
