8. I didn't actually know there was a 6 character option. I got pretty lucky with my first guess today - it had 4 characters in the right place. That made the rest fairly easy.
It does take a bit of thinking about, I don't like it as much as Wordle but I'm doing it each day for now.

The first row told me it was an addition between two 2 digit numbers which made a result which ended in 8
It couldn't be 1 and 7 because 7 isn't in the correct answer, same with 2 and 6 and 3 and 5. Could have been 4 and 4 or 0 and 8. (Could have been 9 and 9 but I couldn't make it work like that for reasons I now can't remember!)
Went with 0 and 8 and the second guess told me that 5 was in the wrong place - there's only one other place it could be and the rest was trivial

Today's was quite easy, it's not always going to be an addition. There was quite a hard one over the weekend which had a division in.
It's quite good fun, bit of a different way of thinking from Wordle but it's similar in that you can rule stuff out which gets you to the right answer.

except that a birdie isn't luck, it's good play - a hole in one even isn't pure luck - you still needed to play the shot in the right way - sure, the wind (if there is any) needs to be JUST right and the grass EXACTLY the right length etc but ultimately it's still often a bloody good shot, at least if it was a pro on a good course

It was RUPEE - as in the Indian currency. Which is why I dismissed it, as I didn't think that would be it. My guesses were:
STARE - which gave me a yellow R and a green E.

Then I thought about it for a bit, considered RUPEE but thought that unlikely so I did

Knickers. What a fall from grace! It was another one of those where the final letter could be multiple things. I didn't follow my own advice about doing a throwaway guess which revealed which. Partly because I couldn't think of a word, partly because there were only about 3 possibilities so I figured I'd get there.

I tend to use the first couple of guesses to get all the digits, so I start with something like 102-98=4.
You're then left with 3 and 5-7 to rule in/out and you've ruled in or out subtraction and one option for the equals sign.
I try and mop up the rest with the second guess and try another option for the = if the first was wrong.
You can usually get pretty close with the 3rd guess after that.

I had a long hard think after that, got a bit lucky but by then there wasn't much left!

After that there wasn't much left. I did think it might be something with two E's as I'd ruled out the other vowels by then. but stuff like LEVER had been ruled out.

Tbh my 4th guess was more in hope than expectation, I just hoped it would give me some more clues. Was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be the answer!

yeah i had to reach into the corners of my admittedly small brain to find the right word

i got three yellows first off but with their being very common letters i then had a lot of options, so row 4 was an eliminator
