Traded in Hitman Absolution (crap game) for Far Cry 3. Was going of FPS shooters but this one seems great and I've barely started. The hype seems justified.

It does look very good, much improved from Far Cry 2 which had the right ideas but was constructed by a bunch of amateurs. Ubisoft can be very erratic.

Also, I think I will venture in to Blockbuster tomorrow for some pre-owned bargains (games from a while ago, any recent ones will likely not have online pass codes). 4 for £20. :bow:

The Gamepad seems to be basically a Swiss Army Knife for games. You don't even need to have the TV on for most games, you can play/do everything on the controller.

Didn't uDraw initially do well on Wii? It was a decent fit with the expanded family audience that Nintendo's own games like Wii Sports/Fit tend to attract. It was always going to be a hard sell this late into a generation on consoles dominated by that male 18-34 demographic. THQ are an advertisement on how to basically ruin your company. Most of their success in the past came from wrestling games and film/TV tie-ins. Ever since they tried to compete with the big boys with stuff like Saint's Row, Darksiders and Homefront, they've gone rapidly downhill. Saint's Row has been a decent success for them, but obviously not big enough to offset their other failures and dwindling wrestling game sales.

The WCW/nWo were the only enjoyable wrestling games I've played. They published Conker's Bad Fur Day too when Nintendo bottled it. De Blob had an excellent soundtrack. They will be kind of missed.

uDraw didn't do well enough to cover the costs of producing it and obviously, that's never going to be a good sign.

Whoever picks up the WWE license will hopefully make a game with different mechanics than the same ones THQ used year-after-year. No Mercy was as good as it got for them.

I don't really get F1 games on consoles to be honest, for the full experience you need to do a full race so that pit stops etc are realistic, but it takes way too long to play a whole season with full length races.

Well it'd be two hours ish for a full length race so yeah hard to find the time for that. However, the minimum amount on a career this year is 25% this year (20% for the previous iterations), so that's about 18 laps for the shorter tracks and about 14-ish for the longer ones. You're going to cock it up at some point being in the worst cars for your initial part of your career so it's about fair at first. You can always do 50% of the race but cut down the time on practising or qualifying.

All they spoke about during the PS4 reveal was the hardware specs and how amazing the graphics are, proving yet again that Sony just doesn't get it.

It has nothing to do with graphics, thats not a concern of mine. Its the quality and quantity of game releases that make or break a console for me. If your into the party games that nintendo seem to be focussing on then im sure you would love the wiiu but its not for me.

The controller is truly awlful. I've never liked the Dualshock controllers, but they at least looked good On Paper. Now it will be shit to play with and shit to look at. Fail tbf.

Further entries in franchises like Killzone and Infamous which have never been critical or commercial successes on more than a moderate scale aren't particularly exciting if they're the biggest launch games. But outside of Gran Turismo, Sony has never really had monster first-party games.


On the Wii U thing, Thierrymon has a point if he's talking in regards to third party support. Nintendo has struggled with that since the N64 for a number of reasons, the latest one obviously being that the Wii and the Wii U are dwarfed by Sony and Microsoft's superior hardware. The Wii was the fastest selling games console ever and was breaking records for it's first few years, but that still didn't encourage developers to create something for a potentially huge audience. All their best efforts were elsewhere. It's definitely more of a Western developer thing, as the majority seem to want movie-like, blockbuster experiences and obviously the manly hardware is where they can best show that sort of stuff off. Nintendo handhelds have always been huge, but Western support for them has always been pathetic. It would probably take Microsoft and Sony's new consoles completely tanking for Western third parties to put their focus on Nintendo devices.

Nintendo's handling of the Wii U launch has been poor, but you usually have to wait until the second year before a consistent stream of big games are available. Nintendo's upcoming line-up for both the 3DS and Wii U looks to be outstanding. If you don't like ANY of their games or Japanese games as a whole though, you're probably best served with the other consoles/PC.

Wii is for kids and families, they just don't appeal to the more serious gamers, Nintendo has always had that kiddie reputation it's never had a serious gaming console.

Microsoft, well they just try to rip you off for every dime you have by making you pay for every little bit, we'll see what they have to offer but IMO the extra charges for multiplayer etc are a joke.

I had two in the space of about 6 months, but that wasn't too long after I got it. So 2008-ish. Both were my fault, and Sony replaced them both for free despite the latter being out of warranty etc. Since then, nothing.

I doubt I'll bother getting anything to replace it.

I got the YLOD on the fat ones. Got it fixed. After a while the fan was just too noisy. Took the enjoyment out of playing games and watching DVDs.

Got a slim one now though. Lets hope all is good til the end of time.

Anyway, yeah they're both worth it now they are dirt cheap. They keep the stories [sic] going and that's no bad thing. The tower defence side missions on Revelations are horrific though, no idea what Ubisoft were thinking. Thankfully after the first time you can avoid them by being little bit sneaky.

Good thing about Brotherhood is the replayability that isn't there with ACII. The story seems more significant than Revelations. TBH unless you're bothered about Ezio's story you could probably miss out Revelations and just jump to III.

Hitman Absolution is not too bad. Wish they had retained the open ended mission structure of the previous ones though. Improved replayability a lot.

Looking forward to the new Dead Island game. Loved the original despite the glitches.

They have that Contracts mode I think though where you make your own missions, so I think there is replayibility in that at least.

Nintendo kinda fucked up the marketing for the Wii U. A lot of people think it's an add-on for the Wii, instead of a whole new console. Some retailers are even bundling Wii games with it.

It's a shame because it's a really good product, especially when all the first party games come in.

New 3D Mario, Zelda and Metroid games are imminent, as well as Mario Kart, Resident Evil, Xenoblade etc.

It would make more sense to license it out on a game-by-game basis to make sure each type of game is done by a suitable developer. EA have loads of studios, but the games will almost inevitably be aimed at the usual FPS market.

Considering EA are unlikely to make games for Nintendo consoles, would that mean no Lego Star Wars as well? That would be cutting off half of their sales for a series that has done huge numbers on Nintendo consoles, which traditionally have the bulk of the family audience. There's a history of other successful Star Wars games like the Rogue Squadron series and Episode 1 racer, which have always been big sellers on Nintendo machines. I wonder if Disney would have a say in EA cutting off their noses to spite their so's your face.

EA get a bad rep but it makes sense to let them handle Star Wars. They’ll promote it and get all the PR and marketing right plus deliver the games on time alongside the movies and on multi platfoms. Also, the games should be decent. Mass Effect, Battlefield, Dead Space, Old Republic, Mirrors Edge, Burnout, Need for Speed….they have a decent mix of games. Some niche stuff outside of the usual FPS but they can also deliver for casual fans as well.

In the past, Star Wars games have been handled by multiple studios and most of the stuff was awful. No harm in taking a different approach. Most licensed games are handled by small studios and the stuff just sucks. Would be cool to see how a big studio handles it. I also doubt they’ll neglect Nintendo. At the moment, they don’t have anything in development but that may soon change.
