Chinks offering "top English stars" like Alli and Barkley ( :haha: ) £800k per week to go and play there. Would love to see their business model. If you pay every half decent mercenary squidillions of quid a year, then where's the profit coming from? Do they have really, really big stadiums? Or do the billions out in the Chinese sticks all have cable TV and footie subscriptions?

He once scored the greatest goal the world has ever seen. An overhead kick where he did a 360deg whirl. Tapped the ball with both feet while upside down and headed the ball into the top left corner.

He also got that goal against Arsenal when he was playing for Everton. Arsenal are that team Pires played for, when he dived and stopped Portsmouth becoming undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Rooney was a top player but he's been on the slide for several years now, it's ridiculous how they won't accept that and still think he's somehow still a key player. His best years have been and gone, it happens, get over it.
I do respect his achievements though. He will retire as record goal scorer for club and country and has every honour to his name with United. Not bad tbf.

If it follows the format of the Recent Euros with more teams going through from the group stages it will boring. Teams going for draws when previously they had to win to get out of the group. I know England was crap and deserved nothing, but that last group game against Ukraine ( I think it was) would have been far more interesting if Ukraine had had to avoid defeat.

It's a terrible shame that Graham Taylor's gone. It was around the end of his England tenure (and THAT game in Rotterdam) that I began to follow football. I admired him at first for the number of Arsenal players he had in the squad (Wright was overlooked by the crook for the two to three years following Taylor's sacking)
He appeared to be a lovely chap off the pitch, too.
Those some tabloid hacks that destroyed him will be eulogising him tomorrow. Make me sick.
RIP graham taylor

The press are arseholes. Sheep mentality in the main. When they sense some weakness or vulnerability in a public persons position they are like a pack of hyenas. They will do everything they can to run the individual down. Just to sell papers.
England havent won anything in donkeys years yet they blame the succession of managers for these failures. Never the type of players that the English system breeds. The last manager who had the potential to win anything with England was Hoddle. Even though a Spud, he had then enough about him to do at least as well as Robson did. They hounded him out for a stupid belief in Karma, which most if not all of us subscribe to in some fashion. Now they have a nonentity as manager, preceded just before that by a buffoon. How long before Gary Neville is England manager?

The press feeds the people. It'll do anything it takes to get attention from the people and get their money. That's the game. A long way from being an independent voice with the aim of speaking truth to power. When the people in the main decided they couldn't give a shit about the big issues, or were powerless to influence those issues, so fell back on entertainment the press seized on that as an easy win. So blame the people. They get the press they deserve.
Many of the same people are having a go at Trump. But when was that last time a US president stood on the podium and called out the media as fake? That was a big moment. It stung because it's truth. And the truth goes further than the media and lands right on the heads of the irresponsible and complacent people. That it has taken a man like Donald Trump to do this is an even greater indictment. When we all decide to get responsible and serious the press will follow along, because that's what they do. Same with the sports media. When they next descend on a man they have already set up to fail and rip him to shreds for the entertainment of the masses we'll all have a choice, let them away with it or show them it's unacceptable by withholding the thing they crave - money.

Whilst I agree with the sentiments fans have about Red Bull Leipzig, throwing cans and bottles at away fans is nothing but incredibly thinly veiled thuggery.
I like the way German clubs are run and how beholden they are to their fan bases, and Leipzig is nothing more than a corporate entity. But using that dislike as a front for violence, pathetic.

Not up to speed on Leipzig, but as far as I understand it they haven't done a chav or gypo routine by buying up everyone's playas. Or am I wrong in that?
Seems to me that the real story here is Dortmund should be doing a hell of a lot better than Frankfurt and Hoffenheim, but they aren't. Maybe the Dortmund fans should throw cans at their own team, or get them to start drinking Red Bull so they have a bit more energy for the fight.
What about Volkswagen and Bayern and Wolfsburg, particularly Wolfsburg. Hasn't that team seen a ton of cash being pumped in by a corporate?

It was obvious Ferguson did mean to do it, but he couldn't make the defence that he hadn't meant to do it had he thrown it unless he had an attack of muscular dystrophy.

What I dont get. from my lofty throne of Arsenal PL security is why these teams are so afraid of going down to the Championship. If you are handed £60m on your way down and cannot bounce back immediately. Then you deserve to stay there. IMO.

You can make a hell of a lot more than 60 mill in the PL. Long term planning and a slow and methodical process of building a team is dead at the top level. There's so much money you just buy what you need and hope you bought better than the rest. Then you grab as much cash as you can and pray you don't end up with the 60 million quid booby prize.

Premier League clubs could be set to earn up to £10million more from sponsorship after talks to add a sponsor to the sleeves of shirts opened ahead of next season.
Sporting Group International have brokered a deal with eight top-flight teams to sell the rights for their kit's sleeve to the same sponsor.
The space is valued at around a fifth of that of a main kit sponsor, and so clubs such as Manchester United, who receive £47million-a-year from Chevrolet to be on their shirts, could see a further £10m invested in the club.
About time! Football has been crying out for this.

BT Sport has retained exclusive rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League until 2021 in a deal worth £1.18billion.
The new three-year contract runs from the start of the 2018-19 season and is worth around £394million per year.
Some had hoped that BT, whose viewing figures for Champions League games have often been low, would decide to sub-licence coverage of some matches to a terrestrial channel such as ITV.
But since the new deal also includes highlights packages, there will not even be a highlights programme on ITV from 2018, let alone live matches.
Expect the price of broadband and line rental to go up then. Happy days!

Make sure you do it yourself, because otherwise they just start billing. I hadn't signed up to anything, I'd just been given access to BT Sport for free which was one of the reasons I signed up for BT. Then the free access was removed and suddenly I was being billed a tenner a month. I don't see how, given the ratings this makes financial sense to BT. They are likely to have to up subscriptions across the board, even to non sports fans.

Not really general nonsense, rather very specific nonsense. After tax - so he'll get a million a week I guess. Obscene doesn't work any more, I think we're verging on evil. And it's not even his football that attracts the cash, it's his name. This diving, cheating scumbag who is an average footballer at best. His name should be mud after all his antics, but somehow this "sport" has made his name worth a million a week.
I would suspect this is just jealousy on my part. In his shoes I'd take the money without a care in the world that this ludicrous inequality must eventually crash the species. Nothing to worry about at all, just keep piling it on and the good times will never end.
Diego Costa is closing in on a move to China that will see him become the best-paid player in world football.
Tianjin Quanjian believe they have an agreement in principle to complete a stunning £75million deal for the Chelsea forward this summer having failed with an attempted swoop in January.
Sportsmail revealed on April 20 how Tianjin, who are managed by Fabio Cannavaro, were plotting a second bid for Costa.
And the Chinese club are now confident of making the money-spinning signing in the coming weeks.
If, as expected, the switch is ratified, Costa will become the highest-paid player on the planet - earning an eye-watering £620,000 per week after tax.
In 2012 approximately 1.5 million millionaires lived in China. In 2013 the number increased further to 2.4 million. Eventually, the number of millionaires is projected to double again until 2015. Without a doubt impressive numbers. But according to senior government development official Zheng Wenkai over 82 million Chinese still live on less than about US$1.25 a day. Hence, plenty of people that did not benefit from China’s incredible growth rates so far. This number is even higher if the World Bank’s definition of extreme poverty is taken into account. Those are people who have less than US$1 a day. Thus, as Wenkai admits the number of poor Chinese can be considered to be actually closer to 200 million. This implies that every sixth Chinese person is poor. The fragments of Chinese peoples have not only the insufficient of capital but also have no access to clean water, electricity and health care. They frequently live in rural areas that are regularly hit by natural disasters such as earth quakes, droughts, and floods.

That's one for the kids. Maybe the only time they get to go to the Emirates in a season. Le Grove has the best idea. Target the Sunderland game. People who don't want to protest openly, stay away, but don't sell the ticket. Eat the £40 cost as an investment in getting rid of Wenger. Those who do want to protest, do it loud. A half empty stadium with protests ringing around it. Stan will have to pay attention.
Trouble is, just how many Wengerites are still out there. A lot I think. And if they aren't Wengerites in terms of outright support, their unwillingness to do anything about the situation amounts to the same thing. Even so, if enough people could be convinced to play along, there's still a chance enough discomfort and bad press could be generated.
Not that anyone should need to make such plans. Any normal club would have acted long ago. It's a fucking joke.

I don't think it's the turnout that will cause the issue, because those cynical bastards in charge will know it's a one-off. But if the atmosphere is fierce and determined, that might cause them to think. Do they want that all the way through a new season rather than just the end of this one? Because we all know Wenger will fuck up again if he stays. A season long bad atmosphere and division is no good for anyone.
Why the fuck hasn't Wenger got the message already? What goes on in his head that he's unable to figure this out? Why has he let it get to this stage? He must be absolutely desperate to stay, to the exclusion of all considerations.

If Chelsea win the league tonight. Will Wenger claim it was only because he sold them Fabregas. Who will now go on to join the many ex Arsenal stars who had to dump Wenger to win the EPL?. Sad.
Ok. Cesc won it with us in 2004. That was a different Wenger in a different lifetime. Cesc was a teen looking up at a team of legends.
He already won it in 2015.

FA are going to impose 2 game bans on divers who cheat and and win a penalty or cause an opponent to be red carded. On the surface, a good idea. Then again, having a ref is theoretically a good idea but in practice isn't all that.
Graham Poll has already warned refs will need to be on the lookout to distinguish between cheats and those who go down to avoid injury.
FA Rule 234.A (Para 1) states:
If any player whose surname commences with the letter X should fall, trip, stumble or otherwise lose their footing inside the bounds of the opposition penalty area; that player shall be: 1) Sent from the field of play and thereafter be prohibited from participating in any English or European sanctioned football match for a period of no less than 2 games, 2) Fined a monetary sum amounting to £10,000 multiplied by the number of occasions during the match in which Wayne Rooney or Harry Kane are forced to fall into the opposition penalty area in order to avoid injury.
(Para 1) sub-clause 1 states:
This rule shall be waived if the offending player's surname does not rhyme with Xhaka.

The 11.30am or noon kick-off times are designed to appeal to the Asian market where the matches would be broadcast at peak time.

Watching the confederations cup penalty shootout a few days ago got me thinking about new ways to resolve a stalemate game. Ronaldo:pal:
If after 90 mins there is no winner, then 4 officials. 1 rep from each team, 1 from the governing football authority, (Fifa, UEFA, FA...) plus one independent auditor will be locked up in a room without any means of communicating with the outside world and a coin is tossed to determine the winner. This will not be announced to anyone and now the extra 30 mins is played. The 2 teams on the pitch dont know who has won the toss but they do know that actually winning the game in the 30 mins extra time will negate the outcome of the toss. If you win it in real time it cancels out the coin toss. if its still stalemate after 120 mins. go with the toss up.
Should be a real incentive to play harder for 30 mins.
Also allow 2 extra changes per team in the 30 mins.

Its throat grabbed by the advance of corporatism, the rapacity of agents, the crippling fear of failure, the impatience for success and the headlong flight from its roots, the voice of romance in football has been growing ever more faint with each season that passes.
So says Ollie Holt about the plight of our game.
But lo! Over the horizon comes a saviour. A romantic warrior to lead us all by example, to the utopia where the beautiful game was birthed and should rightly be berthed today. Why... It's Wayne Rooney! Wazza the poet. Shrek the idealist. Rooooo-neh the Reinvented.
But Rooney wants to go back to Everton because he loves the club. He wants to go back because he wants his kids to see him playing in Everton blue. He wants to go back because he feels it will rejuvenate him. He wants to go back because Everton is in his heart. Because he is a romantic too.
Once the vomit has exploded and your brain rattling has subsided, I think you'll see Ollie has a point. Because to read any of his shit will send you as mental as he is, and probably make you just s shameless.
Rooney FFS! I swear he must be paying these journo shitheads. He must be.
