View Full Version : on the wage structure at the Club
It is difficult to find excuses after a game like that. Wages-wise, of course we are behind the other teams.

He's been siliently complaining about our spending power for ages.

The real question is how bad is it, and why can't we take on debt guaranteed by stan to properly rebuild as this is a false economy we're working with.
He's a supporter of the wage structure he's said as much, he believes everyone should be paid similar amounts.....that's always been a problem and that was his idea....

Bullshit.
First thing he does when coming to the club is increase the top bracket earners. Then we start winning stuff. Chelsea and City and United double wages for top earners, then they start winning stuff. Last I heard is that there hasn't been some magical increase to our income that would allow us to do the same. People always talk about the dross (that now for the most part doesn't exist) on *high wages* but if you could only spend a few minutes to do some math, you'd understand just how much more we're being outspent by and how little difference youth on 30k a week instead off 10k a week makes compared to 200k vs 90k.
It's not BS, it was his idea to have the likes of Bendtner, Denilson etc on high wages...noone else.
If we'd have saved on the average squad players wages we'd have been able to afford higher wages at the top end. We've not won stuff for 6 years, when we were Henry and co got paid big wages (this was before Wenger youth programme kicked in and he decided we should pay everyone similar amounts for team harmony Lolz).
We're penny pinchers, that's not enforced it's a choice, moreover if we won stuff keeping players would be far easier......the problem arrives when you don't win anything, collapse every season, don't spend any money of players, sell your top players without replacing them and tell everyone that 4th place is a trophy.

And while he is willing to pay high wages for kids he believes in the wage structure. Yes sure

He's willing to pay high wages for kids because he knows he can have 10 kids on +10k a week wages instead of one star on +100k. Not that we have loads and loads of kids/squad players on high wages anymore, nor that all there additional wages would be enough for one tevez.
This is some serious blinkered, lazy bullshit to think otherwise.

At the end of the day if he wasn't get things his way he'd leave IMO, he's always said he's happy as the board don't interfere and he wouldn't put up with that.
They love Wenger, he gets what he wants as they trust him implicitly, problem is his principles are now more important than success on the pitch.
He's always got a new excuse and this is just another in a very long list.

I didnt mean it in a negative way. I just cant see a some one who comes to a club increases the pay for some of the players straight away and then is willing to pay high wages to youngsters to be seriously believing in wage Cielings. I have a feeling the wage ceiling is set by the board and and Wenger gets to chose players who fall into that bracket

no we really arent.
what er spend each year on players (wages plus transfers) isnt that far off what united spend.
we waste it all on 15million teenage wingers who arent ready and pay huge wages to kids and diaby, denilson etc. United dont bother, and just buy quality and pay them whateer it takes to keep them interested.
Fist of Lehmann

Arsene has only recently stated that he would like the board to increase the wage structure for our top tier players, I.E. our stars getting paid £125-150k per week instead of £75-100K per week.
There's no denying that it could possibly keep some of our elite players at the club for a while longer but let's not kid ourselves, the likes of Cesc & Nasri have left to go and win things, wages aren't a factor with our elite players leaving these days.
Right now from a footballing point of view we're in a mess created by Arsene and I really don't think he's the man to pull us out of it. Huge wage structures and Billionaire type investments aren't necessarily needed here, they play a part and no doubt help to win things but what Arsenal needs is is a pragmatic manager to come in and shape the squad.
Arsene is too idealistic and principle driven to get us out of this mess.

i did think it was closer than that. then again when you look at what united make out of football and sponsorship (as opposed to property development like us) 20mill a year isnt that big a deal.
plus they are paying off the glazers debts, just like we are paying off ours.

+20mill is 4-5 players on 150k a week or 13 denilsons. Not a big deal you say?

i mean in the context of united's greater resources and the fact that utd fan ramsey for example only came to us becasue the wages were so much higher, yes
