View Full Version : Rugby World Cup 2011

Starts on the 9th of September.
Dont really watch Rugby bar the World Cups as i have no interest in the mickey mouse trophies such as 6 nations, lions tours etc and havent seen a game since the 2007 final.
I assume it'll be the usual contenders, the big 3 from the south and England.
Come on Wilkinson
Unless hes retired
England and Scotland in the same group

England finally put in a performance.
Also France losing is probably better than winning. I think they avoid Australia in the next round although i say this having read it somewhere and not checking myself so could be wrong
If thats the case then NZ :pal:

I assume Scotland will have to beat England by a certain number of points to get through. How do teams get a bonus point? Certain number of tries in a match? I've only seen bits and pieces of games. Where's the next WC?

bonus points i think are if you score 4 or more tries or if you lose by 7 points or less

Got to be fair to some nations
they dont have the largest pool of players to draw from
Was reading in the paper that there was a certain amoint of disbelief at Japans loss to Tonga when you consider the number of professional players
Tonga have 1000 compared to Japans 120,000!

Right, England vs Scotland is on in 15 minutes.
Permutations for both:
0808: And now Scotland:
A win by more than seven points = qualification as group winners and likely quarter-final against France if Argentina fail to win against Georgia. Qualifications as runners-up if Argentina beat Georgia with four of more tries.
A win by seven or less points = Elimination if Argentina beat Georgia with four tries. If both Scotland and Argentina score less than four tries in a wins then Scotland's win needs to be 15 points better than Argentina's
Draw = progress as runners-up if Argentina lose
Defeat by less than seven = progress as runners-up if Argentina lose by eight or more to Georgia.
Defeat by more than seven = elimination.
0804: First of all, England:
A win = qualification as top dogs and likely quarter-final with France
A draw = ditto
Defeat by seven or less = ditto, so long as Scotland fail to score four tries
Defeat by more than seven = elimination if Argentina score four or more tries in victory over Georgia. If both the Pumas and Scotland fail to score four tries in wins today, likely to progress on points difference.
