Beauty contest that will no longer judge contestants on their beauty
"We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance. That's huge. And that means we will no longer have a swimsuit competition."
Why dont they save everyone a lot of time by asking the contestants to send in their CV`s and a picture of their pets. That would be totally non sexist.

This is the problem with holidaying in England.
I don't think we give ourselves enough credit for how beautiful parts of England are, I was down near Beachy Head recently and it was stunning, but it was a lovely day.
A grey, drizzly day and it doesn't look so great.
Meh. Hopefully get some nice days and if not we'll just go to The Eden Project and sit inside and sulk :(

I was in Snowdonia over the weekend, went hiking up Snowdon and it was absolutely beautiful. From the little villages to the mountain ranges, all of it is stunning.
I’ve always been a bit weird about taking a break closer to home but after this experience I’m definitely going to consider more UK based breaks.

That's because it's a great place. And you can pretty much walk from one end of the city centre to the other in half an hour.
And cheers all for the suggestions on the day in London. Ended up wandering round St James's Park/Westminster/wherever I got off the tube... The food was brilliant and actually not too dissimilar to Chinese food here.
Some places though if there aren't English translations (the level of English there is pretty poor) you have to just point at stuff and hope it's OK!
Generally is though.
Don't go to a hotpot place though. Bloody awful
One of my colleagues out there is very proud of one place and always takes people. You get a boiling pot of water with a burner under to keep it hot and they give you strips of meat which you have to pick up with chopsticks, deposit in said water for about 10 seconds so it boils (they're very thin strips and boil quickly) and then eat with various sauces. There are also vegetables and mushrooms.
Overall was very unimpressed, my ineptitude with chopsticks doesn't help, admittedly.

Hotpot in Sichuan was brilliant, it's a shame it's not as good in Beijing. The variety of things to dip in is much bigger than what you've described, not just strips of meat, and the pot has stuff already in to give everything a base flavour.
Doesn't hurt that it's all spicy as hell, which I love.

Maccy - NOTHING will change until Letters does the right thing.
And if you think you can block me, with all due respect, You can't. Just believe that. Tell him to do the right thing. It's that simple. And then all back to normal. No fuss. I absolutely fail to believe you think that he was in the right. BUT - I understand why you have to eat his shit. He's a total embarrassment, what can you do? I actually admire you for somehow finding a way to carry his shite. But I won't be subject to it. On principle. You get that, right? He can't prevail, not even on a little forum like this. So find a way to allow him to win, but lose, if you see what I mean. And then all will be well. Otherwise ban me forever. Because it won't end until he is forced to consider his actions. Years I have posted here. Have I ever done this before? Do you think I'm not serious? If you have to pick him over a regular poster then fine. But just do it for real. Stop fucking around.

He's very principled and believes what I did was wrong.
And that's fine, we're not all going to agree about everything. I did it because the last few years have seen every sodding thread in Arsenal Debate infected with anti-Arsenal bile.
To an extent, as tiresome as it was, it was fair enough. We all wanted Wenger to move on and till he did what else was there to talk about?
But he's gone now so I just thought it was time to keep Arsenal Debate for thinking more positively about the future. I wasn't stopping anyone posting about Wenger but I don't think it was so unreasonable to put that in a the non-Arsenal section of the forum. No posts were edited or deleted.
If people disagree with what I did then fine but it wasn't the worst thing that's ever been done on a forum, I didn't deliberately make NQ the author of the thread, it just happened to be the first post I moved and that's how VBulliten works apparently. I also gave NQ the option to pick a different thread title to the one I chose which was admittedly provocative. He declined so when someone else suggested something I went with that.
I don't think there is any forum where you can spout this level of bile in every post - a lot of it aimed at me - and not face censure.
Not quite sure what else we're supposed to do

I haven't deleted any posts but I did edit that one 2 pages back. Call me a snowflake, but I'm not being called "the c word" 10 times in the same post. I've let it slide quite a few times when he's called me it recently but there are limits.
It all stems from when I moved those posts. He was getting more and more abusive to me after that, in the end I banned him for the evening to let him calm down.
Unbanned him the following morning although he didn't post for a while. When he did he would make the odd Grimes-esque comment towards me and was generally ANGRY NQ but nothing too out of character.
Yesterday every post in the match thread was full of bile, I had a private conversation with Maccy about whether we should ask him to tone it down a bit. He was asked to, refused to Maccy banned him from that thread only.
Then he posted the thing 2 pages back - as discussed, I then edited it. He's made it clear he doesn't accept what I did and won't change the way he's now posting unless I...well, I don't know what actually. Not sure what he expects me to do.
So we banned him.
He'd be welcome back if he posts like he used to, as I said he was one of my favourites (I know we're not supposed to have favourites, I love you all equally really). But he's made it clear he won't so I'm not sure what we can do
As GP said, this is all because I moved some posts into a new thread. I've explained above why. Fine to disagree but this is all a massive over-reaction, no?

Didn't agree with his decision, I still don't. But I somehow managed to get over it (TILL THIS POST. SERIOUSLY, HIS DAYS ARE NUMBERED... :fury: ).

It's the heat. Are you taking in enough salt? Both my calf muscles nearly went into cramp on consecutive nights, I've been running in the heat and probably not taking in enough salt, so I increased my intake, been all right since.
Increased my run to 5 miles this morning, so I'd better make sure I have some extra salt.

Note they were chosen in part because they're close to our office there. Although Beijing is very big so whereever you stay you'll have to travel to get to stuff.

I like the way Trump is grabbing other leaders and issues by the scruff of the neck, but he is an odious character. That he was elected president? I'm upset too, but he is so waving placards isn't going to change that.
That he's coming to England? Well, he is the POTUS, whatever we think about that we have to engage with him.

The fact he's visiting? Well, again, he's on the plane so...
If it's just to register dissatisfaction in the fact he's been invited at all? Well, fair enough I suppose, but he's the POTUS, we can't just ignore that fact.

Right. Right...
Ordered a camera on Monday after an incident on a recent holiday involving my old camera and some sea water did not end well for the camera.
I have Amazon Prime, ordered it in the evening so figured I'd have it by Wednesday.
Wednesday I had an email saying they'd tried to deliver it but no-one was in so they'd try again the next day.
I wasn't sure anyone would be in the next day either and I really wanted it for this weekend so I asked if they could deliver it to my work address.
No, they said. No explanation, just "'puter says no" (for those of you in the UK).
So I asked if they could maybe leave it with a neighbour the following day if no-one was in. They said they would and I'd have it by the weekend. Hurrah.
Was out watching England on Wednesday when I had an email saying they'd delivered it to my neighbour Ian. I don't have a neighbour called Ian.
The tracking information says they delivered it just after 6pm. I was in just after 6pm, I didn't go out to watch the game till half past. There was no information about which house they'd left it at.
Spoke to Amazon again Thursday morning, they told me it was 3 doors down. Our neighbour, who has lived in the street 20 years, didn't know of anyone called Ian living close by, you'd think if there was someone called Ian 2 doors down from him he'd know about it, especially as he's quite a friendly chap.
Multiple attempts to retrieve the package last night, left a note which was still poking out of the door this morning. Basically, I think they're on holiday, Ian doesn't exist and the delivery bloke has just stolen the camera figuring I'd get a replacement anyway or a refund so no harm done.
Amazon have now said they can't re-order the item because it's not in stock so they'll give me a refund (their website says I can re-order it for delivery on Monday). They've offered me £10 compensation.
They can f***. Right off. Twunts.
And...breathe.

Hmm. So it is. I think just generally though we're on course for another year which will go down as one of the hottest on record.
Last one with this level of heat was '76. I equally remember years where we have had no summer, and it pisses with rain constantly.
Every year the papers say "hottest day on record" or whatever, but that's usually sensationalism.
The earth is getting warmer, no doubt, but I reckon if you want back in time (not just the last 100 years, which is all we have record of realistically), you'd find the climate changes all the time. I bet it would have been much hotter than this many times over the last few million years.
We probably have an impact on it with all of our human fuckduggery, but I somehow think the most powerful elements which rule our climate far outweigh what we do.

Yeah. I was in Hyde Park last Sunday watching Paul Simon, we didn't go all day so we didn't get heat stroke and I was remembering how other summers some of the concerts have had to be cancelled because it's rained so much the whole place has been a quagmire.
Agree about the papers. "IT'S HOTTER THAN THE BAHAMAS" or "IT'S COLDER THAN ANTARCTICA" (the latter of these particularly silly when our winter = their summer).
The scientific debate about the globe getting warmer and our idiocy contributing to that seems to be pretty much over. If you go back in deep time there were periods where overall it was hotter so there are other forces at work. It's the speed of change which we seem to be contributing to and the consequences of it which mean we should do something about it though.

There's a new guy in my office who, every time he logs into his computer, mutters his password to himself.
Yesterday, he had 6 packets of crisps for lunch.

When he dies from being fat, you can log in to his computer and steal his money.

That's the thing, he's about 8 stone.
He didn't want to go for after work drinks as he "wasn't thisty"
I think he's one of those lizard people.

Probably told this story before.
Many moons ago I had to go and do some work on a client’s computer.
This was before the days of Remote Desktop, I had to go there early one morning before he got in.
He got permission from his manager to give me his password.
He came to write it down and realised he couldn’t remember it.
Bearing in mind this was the password he used to log into his computer every day...
He decided to reboot hoping that when he saw the login screen it would inspire him. It did and he managed to log in ok.
He wrote down his password for me and...it was his surname
So...he had his surname as his password.
And then he forgot that that was his password
(He was a Spurs fan. Obviously...)

Not as good as Salisbury though, obviously.
I think Jeff Bezos is a wanker, but I still buy tons of shit from Amazon.
Does that make me a hypocrite?

The thing about Amazon, right, is it's brilliant.
I mean, some of their practices are...questionable at best but they pretty much deliver stuff the next day if you have Prime and one time recently they made a mess of things they gave me a refund and a voucher as a soz.
I tried to get the item elsewhere and it was £50 more expensive so I just reordered it from them in the end.
It is brilliant, and Prime is good value for what you get.
And they pass the slavings onto you.

I find it hard to believe that the government can't work out tax laws so that they (and others - Starbucks, Facebook, etc.) have to pay their fair share. We are missing out on bollions. How hard can it be ffs? Instead of trying to find the (estimated) £2bn that is being wrongly paid out in benefits, it would be more helpful to get the £85bn that is being evaded and avoided by scumbags not paying their fair share. Makes us all have to either pay more tax or suffer cuts. If they tax dodging was stopped, we would not need the austerity claimed as essential.

He was called Oscar the Grouch, it seems pretty clear he hated living in a dustbin.

That was a seriously well appointed Dustbin from what i could tell. It had at least 3 levels to it though you'd never guess from outside.
