Has anyone ever given a speech at a wedding before?
My cousin is getting married in July. Shes asked me to get up on stage and just talk about her, any stories i might have about her and so on. I have reminded her that we are Asian and we dont do this shit but shes adamant. There will be around 700 guests there, most of which i wont know. They have hired a band and they rented out a massive place for the wedding. We can play golf, go sailing and god knows what else. I did tell her that whilst i will be at the wedding, il be too busy exploring everything to give a speech.
Bhai  Practice, Practice, Practice, you should spend about a week researching and writing down what you're going to say, you ideally want no more than 20 minutes in all, if you're going for funny you'll need to remember that you'll need to appeal to a big age range say 8-80 so balance the jokes to suit, 700 people is a large audience to catch and then hold so you might want to take some voice coaching lessons just in case :good:

If you're a good public speaker, out-stage the best man by making the crowd laugh their head off (with you, not at you). It has to be in a similar style to the father of the bride speech but much funnier and less sappy. If you're not a good public speaker, man up.
700 guests? Fucking hell. Well I guess if you don't know many of them, you don't have to worry if you disgrace yourself - you'll never see them again anyway.

Sounds like an (Indian) cousins wedding I was at a couple of months ago. Waste of time and money if you ask me but the food was good
Funny thing is as it was the Indian ceremony it actually means fuck all in this country so they were actually married a couple of weeks before hand in the civil ceremony (again great food) it left me wondering what on earth is the point in all this extravagant shit. Nothing yet for me, hopefully that's just because they haven't got round to my application yet. You applied for quite a few didn't you? I only applied for £300 worth, so I'm not holding out much hope! I'd be happy with any though really.
I got an email the other day about a 2nd chance ballot or something like that for those who miss out, didn't read it properly though.

If I'd got everything it would have been about £2200 but that includes the opening ceremony and 100m final, things I knew I had little chance of but thought it was worth a punt. Disappointed if that is the Olympic money and I only got a few things though but there are other rounds and I think the first round is for people who were unsuccessful the first time so there is some hope yet of getting some more.

I heard that 60% would be taken by then
Either way, there are a couple of weeks yet before you know for sure.
Then you have to wait a few more weeks to see what you got.

I'm so shit at playing games. I'm too impatient and self-indulgent to be coy or devious. It seems unfair that I'll end up with someone of lower standing than if I was more aloof and appeared to care less. Ah well. Treat 'em mean is king, and I'll adapt or end up with someone of low quality.

Clean slate for everyone and all that. There are ways in which people can ignore users if they make their blood boil. Now while the methods are not foolproof,ie quoting, they should be enough for people to manage to enjoy the forum.
And that is what it is about - enjoying the forum and sometimes letting off steam and also having bit of banter. It would be great if no one had to use the ignore function, but hey, we live in the unreal real world now, and it isn't always possible.
