Well, around Xmas, we really didn't know what was going to happen. The company was being aquired, as the major shareholder needed to retire, and it was the only way of getting him paid off.

But they want to keep on all of the productive staff, so that's cool. All of their support is centralised, so me and my team were always going to be fucked up the arse like a big fat gay. But we're all in work, so that means we can just lark about, LOLing unprofessionally at everyone else, knowing we have a few weeks off before our new jobs.

25 years since Hillsborough, and for me it should still be remembered in 50 years and in 100 years

Because if you forget what happened, it can happen again......worrying seeing the calls on one hand for terracing to return to football matches, and on the other hand fences to return to protect football players from idiot fans.

What happened to the 96 in Sheffield could have happened to any of us, they weren't criminals or thugs they were football fans going to watch a football match and never coming home again because of the ineptitude and connivance and cowardice of the police. And because of the corruption, and protect your own mentality of the police...the injustice went on for these people long after they have been unlawfully killed.

This cannot be forgotten ever, because it must never happen again

Frankly I think the coverage every year is over-done. Yes, it was bad but it's not the only time a large number of people have lost their lives. All the games kicked off at 7 minutes past as a mark of respect. Really? When's the last time the Bradford fire was even mentioned let alone caused the whole fixture list to be moved.

Yes, the police made the mistakes which led to it and then, worse, covered it up. That clearly needs investigating. Let's not all pretend that the Liverpool fans were all sober and politely queuing and the tragedy just happened though. And there are several reasons why it's extremely unlikely to happen again.

1) The hooligan element is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. They real knuckle-draggers have been priced out of it.

2) You don't have people paying on the door any more at the top level. All the grounds have proper gates, you're not going to get thousands of fans without tickets just turning up.

3) As WMUG has said, the newer terraces being proposed are not the old style ones, there will still be a fixed number of spaces. It won't be a matter of cramming as many people in as possible.

Personally I don't like terraces but not because they're dangerous, I'd just personally prefer to sit. But it does create a better atmosphere and I don't believe the new proposals would cause any safety issues.

With eticketing there's really no reason as to why safe standing can't work.

To be fair no-one villified those who perished in the Bradford fire as being responsible for their own deaths. Also whilst because of the stadium design it was an accident waiting to happen, people didn't die because of the connivance of the police who at Bradford were heroic in their quick response. There is a surviving video of what happened at Valley Parade on you tube and every officer you can see takes tremendous risks to save as many people as possible. At Hillsborough the police response was totally lacking in quelling the carnage they themselves had created, and they stopped ambulances getting into the ground because they were more worried about a "potential" pitch invasion than assisting those who were dying.
But i can see what your saying, for me personally what happened at Bradford is just as bad and it should be remembered, but Hillsborough has been a constant living nightmare for the families of those who have perished and who were lied to, marganalised and had the memories of their deceased loves ones spat upon.

My point was that terracing on it's own is not an issue, but when you have at the same time people arguing about re-errecting the fences seperating fans from the pitch that were the main cause for so many fatalities at Hillsborough it makes me uncomfortable even in this day and age.

WMUG
15-04-2014, 05:43 PM
Are people really calling for fences in front of the stands? I've not heard anyone ask for that, but yes, that'd be stupid. On its own though, the issue of safe standing seems completely inarguable: obviously it should happen.

It was mooted when Rio Ferdinand was hit by a coin in the 3-2 Manchester Derby last season, but as i say no i've no issue with terracing itself. Take Anfield for example, the seats in the Anfield road end are built with midgets in mind so sitting isn't optional there anyway.

I don't think there's anything wrong with safe standing being brought in.

But I don't think it's going to make that much difference. The people who would make the noise already stand for most of the game anyway. You're still going to have vast swathes of the ground sitting there sipping their drinks and pointing their iPads.
And I can't see clubs dropping prices by any significant amount either. A few quid maybe.

It will allow more friends/groups to stand together though I guess, instead of possibly being scattered around and maybe more people will join in if they're surrounded. But I don't see it as some sort of panacea that some seem to think it will be, that it'll be like the "good ol' days". At the top level at least, that is long gone.

Oh sorry. Hadn't realised it had moved on from that. Suzuki Swift.

Isn't that the excuse they used in the Green Mile when they didn't dampen the sponge properly and they set the guy on fire after he went to the electric chair?....well he is dead.

I think whether your for the death penalty or against it (i'm against it), people who use the argument well did the victim have a humane death seem to be missing the point. It's not about what the person deserves, it's about the state proving that it's better than the person who committed the crime. And the punishment whilst in some measure has to be proportional to the crime, it also needs to prove above all that justice and the rule of law is more important than revenge.

Nah, the state is an entity in its own right based on more than just the faith of those who serve it. It's structural and relied upon by those who don't understand it or conceive an alternative. In much the same way as the crown, the person(s) wearing it serves it, not the other way around - though of course the benefits of service provides the motivation. Agreed, the state allows for abusive individuals to commit crimes without sanction, in this way it is a collection of individual criminals, but if you somehow remove those criminals the state is not gone. It's mechanisms still exist for as long as there are citizens who are prepared to tolerate or endorse those mechanisms. Is this what you mean? You'd have to eradicate almost all law and prevailing property arrangements to truly disband or replace the state, plus convince the majority they had an obligation to manage their own personal responsibilities rather than permit others to do it for them. I see what you are saying though, if by some means you could populate the offices of state with moral individuals you might have a different set of outcomes. However, the state by its nature would remain coercive even if it consisted of a moral body of officers. Fundamentally, because it can only operate by coercion, the state is irredeemable, whether a tyranny of one or the tyranny of many it makes no odds to those who are inevitably coerced. I'm not saying it has to go right now, because hardly anybody would be equipped to deal with the absence of coercion, but if mankind wants to resume the evolutionary process it has to go at some point, along with another faith based tyranny money. The problem is we aren't working toward that day, instead we are cementing the state. And going back to the original point as proof of the elevation of the rights of state over the rights of the citizen, how can the state conduct a killing without sanction as punishment for a killing and then have the nerve to call their action justice as opposed to murder - a mirror of the original crime? This is the hypocrisy and regressive nature of state and why it is such an obstacle to human progress. Don't get me started on waging war for security. Security of what? Not the citizen because they pay and die.

Go on then

End of fiat currency and fractional reserve banking. That solves 98% of all the world's problems. The other 2% could be worked on over time. Once you end the banking scam you can phase out government over the next hundred years or so in line with technology advances and under the guidance of less centralised representatives who are more than just mere puppets and can actually represent the people in a libertarian and progressive manner. Guess you'd have to somehow remove the existing political class first because it's impossible to end the banking scam otherwise.

Yup. Ghostery'll stop that. I think. It's really staggering how much you're being tracked.

For instance, right, now on this page, Facebook Connect is trying to log my activity, and this add-on is stopping it. Unless Jofnn has sold out to Facebook, I don't think there's any direct connection to it from GW, and yet here they are, tracking every single GW member. LOL - you have incompetent paranoid brainwashed morons with technology they don't even understand tracking you. It's pure luck you don't run a drugs empire, maybe not in reality but in their fucked up little fantasy world. The first cases of people being killed by the state through technology mistaken identity are starting to come in, there used to be a human to make a human error now there are only humans who refuse to believe the computer can be wrong. I emphasise, these people are morons, the stupidest of the stupid. That's why they are willing to do what they do. "I have nothing to hide", will never, ever trump, "It's none of your fucking business!" I just hope people can somehow recapture their dignity over the coming years.

Can I ask you a question?....for it will determine the veracity of your convictions

Do you believe September 11th was an inside job?

Partially. There were elements that could only have been conducted by US agencies. If what you mean is do I believe there were holographic planes and pods and nuclear explosions and stuff like that? Of course not. That nonsense is put out by people hired to say shit. But if you are asking do I believe if Able Danger carries weight, or the corresponding exercises had to be arranged inside, or the Saudi connection is overwhelming, or NIST lied about the very fundamentals of physics, then obviously - this is beyond dispute. The fact it is obscured or hidden by the media doesn't mean it's not real. People seem to overlook the fact that if you believe the official government sanctioned version offered by the ludicrous Kean bullshit that even key members from that team have washed their hands of, then you are the crazy conspiracy theorist because none of that shit holds up to even mild scrutiny.

As for surveillance - this is another case of the evidence dangling under noses but people don't want to see it. There's a decent enough documentary on Netflix that scratches the surface and puts things into easy terminology for the mainstream observer. "Terms and Conditions May Apply" It doesn't cover some of the key aspects but it's a decent enough primer.
