The irony about my work is that I do an office job within the Police and we share certain facilities with officers coming in for training (like fridge and cupboards) and they will literally steal anything that isn't nailed down.
I only use the fridge in my office, it may smell like a chemical toilet on a Virgin train but it keeps my stuff cold and It doesn't end up pinched either.

Government steals half of that so it can pay an army of bureaucrats and keep the soldiers and rent boys piled high. Banks steal more of it in inflation. Energy companies steal another chunk. Greedy landlords or insatiable pigs at the building society have their snouts out for the rest. £50K isn't what it used to be. Not much left to feed your own after all the other fuckers have been fed. Just a shame the rest of the workers in this country can't be bothered to stand up in support. A sustained general strike supported by the people would change the nation, but the pigs know how to keep workers divided.

09-07-2015, 11:20 AM
But it's still a lot, lot more than people like nurses and teachers get.
Wrong comparison, it's invalid to use the abuse of one group to discount the abuse of another. There's a huge amount a wealth sloshing around in this country and it's in the hands of a tiny minority. If they weren't such greedy, despicable cunts then nurses and teachers could be paid in line with the worthwhile work they do. It's not the fault of the tube drivers that other workers don't get paid, it's the fault of government and the minority they represent. It's equally the fault of the average worker for tolerating government and the minority and not having the guts to stand up and build a society everyone could benefit from. So not surprising when a few stand up that cowards and the self-interested immediately rattle their own cages. No surprise the Telegraph is up for a hit piece on workers demanding their share. Add shysters and politicians and banksters and the quango boys and the upper echelons of those wankers shaving other peoples money and labour and how do those graphs look? The nurses vanish along with the teachers and that tiny little speck (get a magnifying glass) represents those greedy tube drivers. Truth is the modern lazy citizen generally prefers to trade liberty and justice for convenience and therein lies the problem. Lazy fucking sheep who won't do the right thing because it's scary and takes effort.

My understanding is that it's not about money, they just don't want to go from working one or two weeks of night shifts to fourteen weeks of night shifts (one in every three) a year.
Police officers routinely work two nights out of every six in their shift pattern, and they don't take industrial action about the detrimental effects on their life.
Everyone has kids and or life in general outside work, boo hoo it's still fantastically well paid.

This one isn't about money, apparently, but they do it so bleedin' often it's very hard to have any sympathy.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie

I wouldn't want to be told off the bat without consultation that I'm going to be spending a third of my year working at night, but like you say I think the well of sympathy has long since dried up because of how often industrial action occurs.
I work in the public sector and am a member of Unison, but I always ask them to make sure I am not obliged to take industrial action if negotiations fail, because it achieves nothing.
Case in point there was going to be a strike over the failure of the government to offer more than 1% in pay rise, when they were holding out for 3%...but before the strike happened a compromise agreement of 2.3% was reached. I happen to think the RMT and Aslef have made too much of a rod for their own back by being so militant.
Letters

I'm not a member of our union (also public sector) because no one gives a monkeys if we're at work or not so the occasional strike makes no difference. I was pleased to see in the budget we're getting 1% rises for the next 4 years :partytime:
They strike because they know they're needed. Even though they're incredibly well paid, they know everyone needs to get to work in the morning. Doctors and nurses in the NHS are also needed. If they strike, people die - so they don't strike because they have a shred of decency.

Well it was 20p in 1970 for the same product. So either demand has shot through the roof during a sustained period of a lack of supply, or somebody somewhere is devaluing the currency.
But to answer your observation, my own economic opinions would fall in almost exact opposition to Friedman. He primarily measured bullshit, although to be fair he did it in great detail and as far as bullshit goes his methods for quantifying it still stand.

BUT
Wednesdays < Thursdays
Hmmm.
At least on Tuesdays you know it's not Monday anymore, but you still appreciate (like it or not) that the week is still new.
Wednesday's are entirely pointless. They're neither near the weekend, or at the start of the week.
The TV is always shit.
Nothing ever happens on a Wednesday.
Nobody goes out, or does anything remotely interesting.
It's shit.
I vote for removing Wednesday from the calendar and going down 4 day working weeks. Wednesday could be moved between Saturday and Sunday, then I'd like Wednesdays.

I saw something on FB (I think) this morning about how when you clear browsing history it should fill it with normal websites so it doesn't look empty.
Niall_Quinn
01-08-2015, 04:45 PM
Run two browsers - the default for the safe stuff and leave the history in place as it will tally on the server end. The config up the other browser for extreme privacy and auto-deletion of everything on close. Now you don't have to clear anything and the secondary browser looks like you never use it.
Also use AdBlock Plus and Disconnect - in combination they are a knockout for shitty data thieving sites like 99% of the sites out there. And you can also use one of the many SSL force plugins to encrypt data so fuckheads would have to spend time breaking the decryption only to find a normal browsing history and a blank on the other browser.
Chrome suck huge for privacy so use that as your default. Makes you look like a gullible idiot, which is what you want if you are seriously trying to protect privacy and data.
Firefox is super strong on privacy if you configure it right, so that's your secondary browser.
And if you are really paranoid, run the secondary through Tor, which has been cracked but unless you are up to some serious shit that makes no difference as the wankers won't bother with small fry.
fucking hell NQ, you must be a bigger priest than Wenget.

EE. Best speeds. Would help if you get a mobile contract with them too, but reliable super quality for home broadband. But they're about to be bought out by BT anyway, apparently.

BT's broadband is at least twice as good as anything else out there, apart from the stuff that relies on BT anyway. Infinity actually delivers it's stated bandwidth and for me in a year it literally hasn't missed a beat. Literally, not one second of downtime and never an occasion where it has dropped below the stated bandwidth. They have just increased the upload speeds as well and even though it's rare to get the full 19MB, I'm now getting 14MB reliably.
The other providers (tried them all) will claim all sorts of speeds, 100MB, 200MB, silly, silly. They'll actually deliver half or a quarter that and some of them like Virgin rarely manage above 2MB in congested areas.
You'd be mad to quit BT. You know me, I hate all corporations. But this lot deliver.
BT Sport - well that's a different thing. That has Michael Owen on it, for a start. Still no reason to cut off your nose though.
A black man follows me everywhere when it's sunny.
