I believe miracles are real, well I know they are because of testimonies I've heard.
But it's notable that my friend Dave who was cured of cancer did not just stop seeking medical help when other Christians told him they believed he would be healed. And also, he knows other people, as do I, who have had cancer and there were prayers for healing and it didn't happen. It makes me, and him, wonder why God doesn't cure everyone but there's lots of things I don't understand about God.
So I wouldn't advocate parents stopping medical treatment because they believed that a miracle would occur, nor do I think doctors or courts should.

I honestly don't know whether to respect you for being forthright in your beliefs, or collapse into hysterical fits. The former, in this case I think. I accept it if you tell me you do believe these things.

However, flying like a bird through the sky was once an impossibility and if you brought a caveman forward in time and sat him in the airport he'd witness miracle after miracle.

Might it be possible that, at this stage of our development as a species, the medical profession is perhaps not in possession of all the facts? Perhaps they are missing billions of observations yet to come. Maybe they dabbling like primates, scratching bones in the dirt, noticing patterns and coming up with conclusions that lack 90% substance but are nonetheless "state of the (lamentable) art".

One day your miracles will probably be written up in first grade text books. Common knowledge taught to kids, rather than a fraction of the story encoded and guarded by technocrats with a God complex.

Who do you have most faith in? Your God. Or the mortals who think they're your god?

Overlooking for a second the solipsism in people believing that the universal laws have been suspended in their favour, and the logic fallacy in attempting to introduce revealed truth. People stating that they can determine from the alleged occurrence of bizarre phenomena that we can infer the existence of God not only that but it's motives.

You know nothing of the sort. You have anecdotal evidence of X occurring because of what someone has told you which you have then taken as confirmation bias.

Beg to differ. This is faith in action. There's no need to know anything. Belief is sustenance in itself. Not saying I can abide it, but science and spiritualism are not the same, or at least they didn't used to be.

Well, the difference between "believe" and "know" is only one's perceived level of certainty. I say I "know" this, I may be wrong. I used to "know" that the Coriolis effect causes water to drain down a plug differently in the northern ans southern hemispheres but that turned out to be wrong.

You will say you know the reverse of course, but you may be wrong.

No I'm saying there is a difference between scientific belief that gets disproved as a result of greater understanding.

And wishful thinking, there is no doubt you "know" miracles to be true because you want them to be true and therefore you're more inclined to find that which confirms your wish.

No one wished the Coriolis affect one way or the other, it was just a hypothesis which the avaliable evidence indicated towards.

Aren't you determining similarly that because they work for the NHS their medical expertise isn't credible?

Determining that they are simply wanting their own way rather than trying to uphold the best interests of the kid.

Talking to me?

I don't believe it's likely the individuals on the ground "want their own way" for the sake of it. But you must remember how thoroughly and irredeemably indoctrinated they are. They have absolute faith in the little knowledge they possess. Unshakable. Haven't you ever spoken to one of them? Doesn't make them bad people. The bad people are their bosses who subvert that training, knowledge and intent.

Well, I always kinda believed in miracles in theory although had little experience of hearing about them. Since I've been at my new church which is far more Spirit filled I've heard a lot of stories which I can't explain in any other way and has reinforced that "in theory" belief.
I don't know if I "want" them to be true, do you "want" them to be false? Don't we just believe different things?

No I actually have no feeling towards them one way or the other in terms of wishfulnes, I just come from a place of skepticism when extraordinary claims are made. And even if something does appear to be inexplicable, I wouldn't want to attribute the term miracle to it because that has the essence of soneone claiming to know what it was when they cannot.

As for the Abrahamic religions, yes not only do I believe them to be untrue I also hope them to be untrue as I think the God of the Bible, the Torah or the Quaran would be a deranged sadistic maniac.

As for spirituality, meh. I do watch programs about hauntings or out of body experiences. I tend to think these are a mixture of hoaxes or hallucinations.

Some more of these raving bureaucrats in action.

A British Army soldier who lost both his legs in Afghanistan has been told a specialist hospital in Birmingham could be forced to stop treating him because he is Scottish.

Callum Brown was injured in a horror booby trap bomb blast six years ago while on his final patrol in Afghanistan before coming home - and still endures pain from the injuries.

Since he was airlifted home the 28-year-old has been treated by specialists at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham which has dedicated facilities for military casualties.

But on his last visit to its Royal Centre for Defence Medicine he says he was told that he will no longer be treated at the hospital because he does not live in England.

Former lance corporal Callum, who is from Ayr, fears that a lack of specialist treatment and medication could cost him his life.

He told the Daily Record: 'I am sitting here without my legs because I fought for this country.

'This is the ultimate slap in the face. I am still in shock and can barely get my head around it.'

A staff member at Queen Elizabeth Hospital admitted to Callum that he was 'ashamed' the Scot could no longer be treated there.

Every last scumbag in a senior position of government or operating as a senior collaborator with government will hopefully get their just rewards for their tireless service, one of these days. As for the rest of the collaborators, well yes, I'm sure most of them are decent people. But they keep on voting. And they keep on obeying. So, when all is said and done, they are guilty too.

Doctors, teachers, cops, look at what a shit mess all these professions are in. Serving almost precisely the opposite purpose to the original intent. Pill pushers, brainwashers and tax collectors. But it could be very different if the majority stood up to the minority. Too much complacency, cowardice and subservience for that to ever happen. As we saw from the usual suspects in this very thread.

Yes. Of course it did and of course they do. Which is the point I'm making. It's long past time for the regular doctors, teachers, police to stand together and reclaim the professions they claim to represent.

OK. You do the same with Wenger in case he's missed your posts. :good:

I'm not sure I'm "offended", that implies some personal slight, but I am appalled by the way they have acted. They have made this all about them. From the BBC:

His parents had wanted a private team to care for Charlie so they could have more time with him. "GOSH have denied us our final wish," his mother said.
Look at the emotive language. Aren't GOSH nasty? Boo! This may amaze them but Charlie is not the only child GOSH are treating, they are not the only parents in a heart-breaking position. GOSH don't have private teams just sitting around to tend to every patient. And why is their final wish so important? How about what's best for their son? In all their foot-stamping every time they haven't got what they want they seem to have lost sight of what is best for Charlie.
I'm appalled by the way they have lied about their son's condition and his chances of recovery, again painting GOSH as the bad guys "we could have saved him, if only they'd listened". That is not sodding true!
They have allowed their son to continue suffering when it was clear he was beyond hope.
Maybe they genuinely believed they were doing the right thing for him and the chances are I will never be in their position - I certainly hope not - but they are not the first parents to be in this awful position and this sort of behaviour is extremely rare. Most parents accept the futility of the situation. And no, I'm not suggesting doctors are always right and they should have taken it at face value but when expert after expert keep on telling you the same thing there has to be a time when enough is enough.

The point is there are CONSEQUENCES to them behaving like this. As well as allowing Charlie to suffer longer than he should have it has taken away funds from other children, children who have a chance of recovery.
And it has caused a lot of highly dedicated staff a lot of completely unfair criticism and hostility. A friend of mine has a son who nearly died 5 or 6 years ago in a near-drowning. GOSH saved his life and continue to help him with the cerebral palsy the incident left him with. I was talking to her about it and she said:

I have spoken to my friend who is an intensive care nurse at GOSH and she and the other staff are just being bombarded with negativity and nastiness. I have not met a single staff member at GOSH who does not give their heart to the job

Just think about that for a minute. Imagine you had a proper job. Not like you and me, but like them. A job where you actually make a difference to people's lives. A job when you're actually doing some good in the world. Whatever you think of doctors I think most of them are doing their best for their patients. And I'm sure the nurses are too. My dad was in hospital a couple of months ago and I was hugely impressed by all the staff there who you could see were doing their best with their limited resources to do what they could for their patients. So imagine you had a job like that, hadn't had more than a 1% pay rise for the last 7 years and now you're suddenly getting abused by people. F*** that. I'd be out the door like a shot.

So yes, I have a problem with the parents for creating a situation where these staff are getting a completely unwarranted and unfair level of abuse. For once, I don't blame the press. They've been loving it of course, but the parents have courted it as it suited their agenda.

Oh boo-hoo, 1% pay rise. I know only too well where that's coming from, you martyr, you.
You think I said that part because it has also applied to me? Behave. It has, but I get paid very well, relatively speaking. Far better than a nurse does. My mother in law is a sister on a ward and gets nowhere near what I get. I'm no martyr. I don't get anywhere near market rate but it's my choice to stay, for now having a very flexible job suits me and it's keeping me in the manner to which I've become accustomed. I will probably move on fairly soon when certain things in life have settled down. And in my line of work there is far more scope for moving jobs than for a nurse. They started on shitty pay 7 years ago for a job which is incredibly important and they've effectively had pay-cuts every year while the politicians telling them there's "no magic money tree" accept nice big pay rises. And now some of them are actively getting abuse. Fun that.

And yes, I saw your earlier posts and you seem to be talking about what the doctors should be doing. I'm talking about what the parents should have done so I don't see what we're arguing about.

Wiped out? How so? I thought he was trying to keep the Muslims out? Or is this the Russia thing again?

How about the air strikes ordered in Syria, Yemen and Somalia? It's only been 6 months in office but the civilian deaths in Syria are way into the thousands since he's taken office.

Relations with the Saudi's are better than ever with that new weapons contract and Trump helping to destabilise their rivals. He's attacked Yemen on the Saudi's behalf, dismantled any progress made with Iran and helped to ruin to Qatar. How can he back the Saudi's accusation of Qatar funding terrorsim and ignore the Saudi's funding terrorism?

There's no real win to be had with Korea. They want more significance but the rest of the world won't hand it over without concessions the Koreans aren't prepared to make. They can't. They'd be out of power in an instant if they gave an inch. And that's all this is, a bunch on tinpot tyrants trying to hold on to the "stuff" they have stolen. Privilege, palaces, whores, young boys, all the trimmings. They thought nukes would get them into the big club but that didn't work either. They've been riding on Chinese coattails all this time but even the Chinese are trying to shake them off. What Trump did was close the door on appeasement. That was one possible avenue they had to keep their game rolling along. Not any more. Not until Trump has gone, anyway.

But there was one huge win for the world that came from this. McCain. He was exposed to such a degree that even the blind can see what he is.

Forget Korea. He’s doing exactly what you said he wouldn’t do with his actions in Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and Somalia. I’m not going to applaud how he handled the North Korea in light of what I’ve seen so far. If we actually revisit what was said about Trump’s election being a sign of progress because voters didn’t want to vote for a war criminal…..I don’t know how this cheering on this sort of action is any different to what we’ve already seen.

When did I say he was a warmonger?
The picture is pretty self-explanatory. Compare and contrast Sarah Huckabee Sanders' quote with the Trump quotes, which can't be dismissed as "fake news" as they are all on video.
He frequently incited or condoned violence at his rallies.

He's a toddler. He lies like a toddler does. It's just bizarre behaviour for an adult. Recent example was the talk her gave to the scouts, widely criticised for being so political when previous presidents have struck a more inspirational tone when talking to youngsters. Trump then comes out and says something about how the head of the scouts called him personally and said it was the best speech they'd ever had , that was quickly denied. Just such silly easily debunked lies.
His mixture of narcissism and crippling insecurity is potentially dangerous.

Oh right. I get it now. You are avoiding the original issue completely. Sorry, I was perplexed by all your meandering but now you've made everything very clear. Thanks.

This isn't about applauding Trump. It's about the mainstream having an agenda and not caring where they go with it provided it opposes Trump. Trump did what had to be done, no more, no less. Not sure what cheering you are referring to? Do you mean responding with the facts to a topic raised by repeater drones?

Another leap to another topic. Slightly all over the place, aren't you? Do you need third party affirmation to conclude the sun is hot? Well perhaps you might, but not everyone does. Of course when you then hear an idiot proclaim the sun is cold because... Donald Trump, and then you see the fool chuckle in smug satisfaction at his own "wisdom", it is at least tiresome.

I think you're getting lost in the sauce. In trying to defend Trump you're ignoring the sort of thing you'd usually condemn. But whatever....

I'm responding to a couple of ignoramuses who know absolutely zero about the topic at hand except what has been spoon fed to them by a media that does not report the news but rather has an agenda to oppose Trump. As such, the parrots squawked accordingly. Which is not a problem. Most people are like that, by careful and sustained design. My response is more provoked by their deep enjoyment of their ignorance. I find that unsettling and comment worthy.

As for North Korea. Trump (or more accurately his advisors) have averted direct conflict. So that's a good thing. End of. If we have good things then good, if we have bad things then bad. There is no difficulty. The larger picture is equally simple. We are in a situation where the globalists, a motley alliance of Marxists, neoliberals, national socialists, multinationals and other collectivist types, are arranged in struggle with free market, nationalist, libertarian types. The fallout from that struggle must be analysed in the context of the struggle.

You should watch CNN. That is probably the best source for figuring out what is going on and why. They aren't hiding anything, it's all out in the open now.

And here's a good video that demonstrates how an intelligent voice can self censor based on ideology. Want to know how Russia is REALLY fucking with the US? Watch this. And it's effective too. What they carefully overlook is the other side of the coin. Mr Stalin. Or Antifa/ Black Terrorists Matter/ the neoliberals, call them what you will. They can't mention him or them because it would destroy the one-sided nature of their argument. And, of course, the reason the establishment want rid of Trump at any cost is because he's NOT playing the usual game. I go along with Wolff on why individuals drift to the "alt-right" (which by now, hopefully, you can see is the FAR LEFT), I go along with the idea a unifying figure is sought out to lead the movement. But the one catastrophic flaw here is Trump is a free market entrepreneur, the arch enemy of the Alt-Right (Far left). And, if that doesn't make any sense, NAZI - National Socialist. Is that better? Trump is not a collectivist - that's his biggest crime in the eyes of fanatics from both sides and the mainstream media/ permanent state (politburo). Didn't take long for the rust belt to be forgotten, did it? Did Trump come to power on the back of a few Nazi votes? Or was it a sea of working class Americans? Funny how those communists oppose every single measure that could enhance the lives of that majority. Even Wolff seems to have written off these people.

Good move by Trump, take away their grandstand. He needs to ride out this theatrical attempt to alter reality whilst holding form and continuing to remind sane people that both sides of the hard left are equally repugnant. It really does say a lot about the state of our world when we have to put our faith in Donald Trump to maintain our grip on reality, but that's what it has come down to.

Billionaire Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) (BRK.B) on Tuesday exercised its right to acquire 700 million shares of Bank of America Corp (BAC) , effectively becoming the bank's top shareholder, Reuters reports.

The purchase more than triples his original investment made six years ago.

TCharlotte, NC.-based Bank of America announced the exercise of warrants that gave Berkshire the right to obtain the bank's shares for roughly $7.14 each.

The action now gives Berkshire around a 6.6% stake in the U.S. bank, based on an uptick in the amount of Bank of America shares outstanding, Reuters data indicated.

Shares of Bank of America traded up 0.5% to $23.72 Wednesday morning.

Unless you have enough cash to be buying banks - get the hell out of every investment you own, fast. This is a sure signal another massive round of banking criminality is about to hit. Certainly in the States, but the knock-on effects will be global.

The premise of this is based on the idea that society still deliberately tries to impose gender roles on people and that's why it's considered to be problematic when more men are in certain jobs than women. And don't want to accept that in the nuts and bolts of it all women are no less capable of doing certain jobs but choose not to.

If a woman doesn't want to wear a dress and makeup that's up to her, but people need to stop trying to pretend that society's expectations are the reason that women do choose so to do.

Equally if men between themselves make lustful objectifying comments about women it's not because of the proliferation of pornography and lack of respect for women.....it insults the intelligence.

The problem with all this multiple genders bollocks is that it muddies the waters between people who genuinely believe they were born in the wrong body (and there is another discussion to be had about whether gender reassignment through chemical and surgical alteration is the best way of dealing with that) and people who just want to be different for the sake of it.

Niall_Quinn

"Gender is a spectrum..."

No. No it isn't.

It will be if we can't think of something to put a stop to this. We're passing the point where we leave this to "leaders" to sort out for us. Plainly they are failing. We now have doctrine that flies in the face of our long established science and is being force fed to a, so far, compliant society. The natural by-product of our bodies and the natural food for all plant life is poison, the fundamentals of biology are discriminatory. It is quite amazing what people will believe when they are instructed to believe. Simultaneously our cultures are under attack. We have a pope marching around telling us that all religion must be merged, just as genders are being merged. And warmongers insisting the nations our ancestors fought for are wicked and regressive. When there is no distinction of any type between human beings, these liberals will be pleased. Of course there will be one distinction remaining, they will lead and the one nondescript mass will obey. The one world government is not so adorable when you look at its terms and conditions.

I am also pro choice but for the life of me I don't find anything he said wrong in his interview this morning. He's not trying to impose his values on others, and actually I think you can be opposed to abortion without being a Christian. I disagree with him about life starting at conception because it's not what can be called viable life it's just potential life otherwise you could even stretch the point and say masturbation is mass murder.
But I do respect the beliefs of pro life people because I think they are sincere moral beliefs. And for that oily turd Morgan to pillory him for it when he's gone on about being a Catholic himself just shows what a greasy little weasel he is.

It's weird how it's gone.
30 years ago, maybe less, anyone who thought that marriage could be between 2 men or two women would have been ridiculed.
Now it's the other way around, if you think that marriage is between a man and a women then you are a "bigot" or spreading "hate".
Only one opinion is allowed now on certain topics.
Doesn't "bigotry" mean intolerance towards someone who has a different opinion from you? Who are the ones being bigots, the ones expressing the more traditional view about marriage or those shouting them down?

I know they don't have to these days, but traditionally that's how it's been done.
So I don't think churches should be compelled to marry couples who they don't want to - and I'm not just talking about the gays, two heterosexuals who are marrying for silly reasons would also be objected to (notably that silly thing where two people got married at first sight for a TV programme).

Think we're pretty much agreeing. I'm just a bit tired of seeing people - at the moment because of the Australian vote on same sex marriage - violently objecting to any other point of view as though no other opinion is allowed.

I think we can all agree that Rees-Mogg is a cunt.

I personally don't care for his religious beliefs. His voting record is something else, though.

Wholly unqualified to be party leader, never mind PM.

There's these things called town halls and registry offices.

If I ever lose my grip on my faculties enough to want to get Married it wouldn't be in a church as I'm not a hypocrite.

Because you can get married in church doesn't change the fact it's a civil ceremony.

But yeah I think despite approaching it from different angles we do agree. Although as much as you object to me pointing it out, the Bible hates the act of sex between a man and a man so why two dudes would get married in a religious service that will always hate what they do even if it claims not to hate them for what they are is beyond me anyway.

Hmm. Booked a break in Barcelona last night, we haven't had much of a holiday this year and MrsL wanted to go away for our anniversary.
Just noticed Barca are at home the Sunday of our trip. Wonder whether I could get tickets and how much MrsL will punch me in the face if I do...

Love Barcelona, probably my favourite European city. It's very easy to get tickets to Barca games, I'm sure she can give you one evening tbh. My missus enjoyed it even though she's not a fan of football.

How would one go about getting tickets? Any tips? Any tips generally? I've not been but have wanted to for a while.

Who are they playing? If it's a pub team you'll probably be able to buy them online in general sale and then collect them at the ticket office on match day or before. However there are various official ticket outlets on the Ramblas and one near the Sagrada Familia IIRC, which is where I got mine. If you don't go to a match though, do the stadium tour, that's pretty decent.

As for the city in general, it's lovely. Gothic Quarter, Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo, all of Gaudi's work is quite impressive. For the best views head up to Park Guell, it's a bit of a hike but well worth it.

The Ramblas is nice too but very hectic, it's a nice walk if you start from the top and head down to the beach though. Oh and use to the metro to get around, cheap as chips and as easy as navigating the Tube here.

Whatever you do, don't book tickets through your hotel. I walked up 15 minutes before kickoff and bought at the gate.

It was my wife's birthday when we went and she hates football but enjoyed the experience.
