Now that my 100% match thread winning record is over this season, I'm tempted to give up this lark. I will give myself one more chance, but if we have anything less than a win here, I will resign from match thread duties.
We should play:
Szczesny
Jenkinson
Mertesacker
Koscielny
Vermaelen
Song
Rosicky
Ramsey
Oxface
RVP
Gervinho
2-1 Arsenal.

This one.
Play the same team that played Chelsea apart from Vermaelen for Mertesacker.
A tough one - but for me a combination of Merts and a sweeper (Kossy or Vermy) is probably the best one - because Verms' positional sense is suss, and Kossy, for all his interceptive class this season needs someone in the right place to cover.

The rest stay the same as the Chelsea game
Could have been a chance to rest RvP, but Olsson will be trying to maul anyone we stick up front so a bit of class/trickery is needed

so basing on one performance you are not going cos they didnt win? you ignoring the performance against chelsea then which was exceptional? thought so.
the performance on tuesday wasnt great but they still created chances, played as a team and fought to the final whistle, thats enough for me. i want to see the team fight every minute regardless of the result. but for you, you just want to moan about everything, strange how quiet you were after chelsea as the team had proved you wrong. 9 wins in the last 11 games and you dont want to go watch because one performance wasnt great

You cannot yet say Arsenal are back as the team we used to know but they have started to play well and they are on a really good run.
I still think they have got innate problems defensively, though, whatever their form suggests. Their left-back Andre Santos is a good footballer but can be got at and I am totally unconvinced by Per Mertesacker in the centre, so having Thomas Vermaelen back fit is a big plus for them.
West Brom rolled over very easily against Liverpool last week. Baggies boss Roy Hodgson was unhappy with the penalty decision that led to the Reds' first goal but I think he will probably be just as unhappy about the way his side played.
Injured striker Shane Long, who does the work of two men, is a big miss for them at Emirates Stadium and I cannot see them getting anything from the Gunners.
Prediction: 2-0

Ollie mate, you're not new around here!
Crippps lives in a world of extremes, he's only happy when we blow teams out the water or he's posting crap!
Take his posts the same way as your fish n chips. . .with a fist full of salt
Come on Cripps, massive win against Chelsea, sub standard performance in the CL, kinda if expected (at least we didnt lose)
Although we would all love to win in the same emphatic fashion, it just ain't going to happen. . .Chelsea had it happen to them, as did Utd. . .and Citeh are going to go through it.
what can be said is that we had a fucking awful start and have just been getting better as our run has indicated, we may still be a few players away from becoming a force but what is sure the team needs the fans and it may be a bit choice for me to be saying that while living far away in Japan but respect to your brother for taking the time to go and support the team.
I would have bitten your hand off if you had offered me your ticket no matter what their midweek performance was like - try and make sure you're around on GW so we optimists can be balanced out by your logic!
Also you can start the match reaction thread which Ive been doing in your absence

our reliance on Robin Van Persie is similar to our reliance on Thierry Henry in the 05/06 season to score enough goals to get us champions league football. There isn't enough goal contribution from other sources, we have Chamakh who is thankfully injured because his presence on the field is about as self-assured as Ed Milliband at the dispatch box and Park Chu Young who remined us on Tuesday that his main contribution will be helping to sell shirts in the far east market. Gervinho could be played as a striker but his finishing is dire, and he's better as a foil for Van Persie.....and Walcott also seems to go absent in every other game.
I would personally throw Oxlade-Chamberlain in at the deep end, put him on either wing along with Gervinho and allow walcott to play up front, and then replace him if he starts to tire with Arshavin who seems to fair better as an impact substitute than a starter and play him behind Van Persie and allow Walcott to remain on the wing, of course this would be dependent on playing a 4-4-2 system which would see one of ramsey, arteta or song dropped and on current form i'd drop arteta.
We are going to make orphans of their children.

Santos is going to cost a game in the near future. His positioning is awful, and luckily WBA don't have enough quality to capitalise on that. Arteta's playing better, but he's still not involved enough, and always plays the safe pass, which is fine against poor sides but we need much more when we play the likes of City.
Jenkinson looking good again though.
I thought we played that superbly. Right from kick-off the passing was quick and precise; straight to feet and it’s sticking. Even Walcott was holding up the ball well when it was fired at him. Some of the moves (like the one where Gervinho was wrongly called offside) were brilliant. Ramsey always has a silly mistake in him but he has been the standout player alongside Jenkinson. Ramsey covered some serious ground - he was everywhere.
We also pressed very well - made a lot of interceptions and bullied them off the ball a number of times. In Jenkinson, Vermaelen and Koscielny I think we have proper defenders that can defend. An added bonus that Vermaelen has a decent strike on him.

Must be the first time weve gone 2 clear in any game this season. usually after the first goal our self confudence gives way and the other team equalise. I must say however that Arteta is nowhere like the player we need. When wilshire comes back, he should be the one to drop out. Funny that cos whenver we played against him and everton he was like a demon all over Fabregas, fouling him and stopping his play like it was personal, with us now he is like a stand by actor who is suddenly asked to play the lead.

We're winning the ball back a lot quicker than previous seasons, winning lots of headers too. This is a team of battlers!

And yet he's been at the centre of an extremely efficient and accurate passing game? He must be doing something right.

Nice calm win. Perfect result to follow on from last week.
Or:
Chesney probably should have been sent off for no reason, our goals were down to their terrible defending and RvP is injured a lot, but that's not to take anything away from this lucky, lucky win.
