Society is now one polished horde
Formed by two mighty tribes, the bores and the bored.
"After all, it was the Gunners’ goalkeeper who started the move that culminated in Thomas’ crowning glory. It was Lukic who, in injury time, decided to throw the ball out to Lee Dixon rather than lump it long..."
Done my first night shift , and oh boy, I'm giving myself a couple of hours to think it over, but I'm likely leaving this **** place. Might call the store and just say I'm not coming in for my shift again tonight (can't deal with them forcing my shifts on which days right now).
The manager was different yes, but it was a big black african who kept on marching orders (which I'm fine with), but the way he said 'you've done nothing your whole time here' after I spent like 6 hours working my arse off in the store pissed me off, kept swearing at another guy. I then ask him where to put some items that had broken seals (its my first actual day), and he says, '****ing hell, put it on my head' What a ****ing scrote, and the other manager is a **** aswell . The environment there is toxic.
I know its a job, but its making me miserable already after one day. Doesn't seem worth the effort. It's also physically very demanding, more so than I imagined.

Man, I feel your pain.
I had occaisonal Christmas work in a Supermarket for a few years from when I was 17. While most of the managers were alright, there were some real scrotes who were amongst the most obnoxious people I have ever met. One in particular was the worst and even all these years later, I hope he dies a slow and lingering death.
The warning signs were there early on. When I went down to enquire about vacancies he told me to come back at 4. I got there at 3:45. The fucker kept me waiting until nearly 5 and then asked me what time I called this when he told me to come back at 4. When I told him I was there over an hour, he just moved on abruptly and told me I started Monday at 4. I told him school wasn't out until 3:40 and there was no way I could get there before 4:15 he jut told me to make sure I was in by then.
On my first day, I was in by 4:15 having flown out of school as fast as I could and he gave me shit about time again. And the way he barked orders was atrocious. I wasn't expecting, 'please sir, may I enquire whether you would ever be so kind to stock the shelves'? But was hoping for something better than, "stock the fucking shelves...clean the fucking floor...why isn't the fucking floor clean...take your fucking break...etc.' And there was no guidance at all on how things were done, you were expected to just know and if you asked a question you were responded to like a retard.
It was such a relief when working for other managers and realising they werent all obnoxious ****s.
That said, even when working with that obnoxious piece of shit, good things eventually happened as those of us unfortunate enough to work to him, built up a camaradery and had great funtaking the piss out of him behind his back. That made it bearable.
I'd try to give it a couple of more shifts before making your decision. It will be easier to stick with knowing that you can just pack it in when you want. As for them picking yur shifts for you, I'm afraid that is standard practice. You're new just in, and longer serving and permanent staff are going to get priority for the better shifts. However, if through your work you become valued and reliable, you'll eventually have better leverage when it comes to getting a better shift pattern.
Hope it works out for you.
I remember coney once telling me he worked in a supermarket a long time ago as a manager and he said there was a 17 year old guy who was always late, made excuses, did f all...
Glad he didn't mention my personal hygiene problem.
He was in his 90s then. His sense of smell had gone

Nah I've decided I've had enough of the shit job, will call them in a couple of hours, not worth the amount of money for the work I do (its literally 3 people at night refilling an entire store, so understaffed) and how much I'll have to give up of my day life to make a go at it.
All in all, fuck sainsburys. Will never go in this store again.
Applied for a student ambassador role at uni now for the summer, £8p/h showing people around at open days , easy money
Did I ever tell you about the sadistic Manager I had when working one summer as a student ambassador?
Good luck mate.
