i actually thought they were shit at the time and i was only a kid so they must have been pretty bad...

It was a very different culture back then, 4 channels, live TV was a big deal, no 24 hour cycles. No demand for bells and whistles to keep jaded audience attention spans reset. And no reality TV. So family shows had a space that doesn't exist now. Didn't really matter too much if it was funny or not. It was a family oriented routine. Half the fun was groaning at the terrible jokes rather than laughing.

Also, wasn't their slot just before Dallas? Or was that Cannon and Ball? Much of a muchness. Bit like Doctor Who. I can always remember that little shit Basil Brush dragging on endlessly while I was waiting for the main event.
