So we have a huge reshuffle at the club, clearing out the dross from the hierarchy and middlemen to alleviate the old issues and be more efficient at the day to day running of the club.
And here we are, giving players away for nothing, not selling the old turgid shite that have stunk up the pitch for years, under bidding for our 'targets' and missing out, not replacing in key areas that we are weak in whilst making ourselves weaker, having no money and waiting for the last day of the window to hopefully get some has been loan deal in.
So...... what has changed exactly?
Let's see what happens between now and Oct 16. I do genuinely have a lot of sympathy for Arteta, Edu and Vinnai and the mess they've inherited - I don't think anyone expected Raul to get canned off so suddenly, at the start of our most important window for a decade, so that must have thrown a load of plans into chaos. And I generally think they've done a great job in putting out fires over the last 10 months and salvaging a winning side from the ashes. However, they won't be entirely blameless if we end up with nothing else to show for this window.
Edu in particular has put his neck on the block after ditching most of our scouting network in favour of a smaller, more centralised team that's built around smart data analysis. Whilst I totally support that move, and think it was 100% necessary to modernise in this way, you've still got to be asking "who are the other targets?" You can't tell me that Partey and Aouar are the only two players in the world that would improve us right now. We're not exactly peak Barcelona.
I totally understand the argument that we don't want to end up with another load of duds that we can't shift, but, you know... stop handing out stupid contracts and it won't be an issue! If these 'best in class' signings aren't available to us at the moment then we might need to consider a smaller step-change instead, with a view to an upgrade a year or two down the line.
Anyway, let's see what happens over the next couple of weeks - maybe we have some rough diamonds from the EFL lined up.
I do agree with this but...in the same instance if we are going to make big sweeping changes in regards to recruitment and the process then when we should know what we are letting ourselves in for. Were any of these new innovative ideas laid down by Edu means tested or even thought out properly before being implemented?
Arteta was fairly clear in his stance a few weeks back that we needed to recruit in Midfield, his words were we need quality in this area.
He is know saying this....
Arteta said: “Believe me, the ownership and the board and doing everything they can to maximise the resources and make this club successful. I have 100 per cent backing for them. Whatever we can do, they are willing to do it, to support us.“Whatever we can add of course we will do it. But we have to be realistic. The people here are supportive.
“Whoever jumps in the boat will be welcome. But we all have a very clear direction and purpose to drive our goals.”
What does this even mean given we seem unable to complete deals we have been pursuing? It's just empty words as far as I am concerned.
If Arteta and Edu's eyes are too big for their belly then they need to start shopping in the market that is affordable...otherwise I have no idea what Arteta means with these comments...they make no sense.
That's probably more relevant to loaning out youngsters I guess. Unless we take a punt on someone like Benrahma.
I've heard that somewhere before.Whatever we can add of course we will do it.
If he starts with the "Lacked little bit sharpness." after the games, then he can go pronto.
