I think there’s this stubborn streak in United where they don’t want to be like Chelsea, sacking their coach at the drop of a hat. In terms of transfers they’ve mirrored us, in that when Wenger first went the object was to bring in that one marquee player that would get them into the champions league. Now it’s a mixture of trying to bring in young unknown players and rebuild the defence.
With Ten Haag the problem is, there’s no philosophy. Two years he’s been there and there isn’t a style of football that the team has adopted. I don’t think the squad they’ve got is terrible…it doesn’t help that their attacking players are all youngsters who are not going to be consistent goalscorers…I think Garnacho, Hojlund and Zirkzee are all decent players but a lot being put on them to get goals.
I don’t think Mazraoui or De Ligt were bad signings either and even Onana has begun to settle and looks more assured between the sticks. But it’s not a team, there’s no identity there…and that falls on Ten Haag’s shoulders
