Let's just say I've seen some pictures from his wedding and the cost of the schools he went to...
People like mePeople like you would rather have the poor poorer provided the rich were less rich.
You don't know the first thing about me, fella.
I obviously don't want the poor poorer. Why would anyone want that?
I generally think that people who have the most money should pay the most tax - which is generally what happens.
Although that of course has to be balanced against there being incentives to advance and do better in life.
Ideally the gap between the haves and have nots shouldn't be so extreme.
Although that is hard to regulate. I was talking to a filthy rich relative of MrsL and was opining that the wage multiple between a CEO and an average employee shouldn't be so big - not realising that he is a CEO of a fund management firm, hence the solid gold house
He said that you can't really disrupt the market - board members aren't exactly wanting to pay CEO's as much as they can. And I guess he's right.
TL;DR - this stuff is pretty complicated. I have mixed feelings about inheritance tax. Part of me thinks why should anyone have to pay it - if your parents worked hard for stuff and they were already taxed on their money, why is that taxed again when they pass it down? The principle of it feels wrong to me. That said, the amount they have to leave you before you pay anything is quite a lot. The vast majority of people don't have to pay it. If they do leave you enough that you have to pay tax on it then you can probably afford to.
