The Hunger Games was suprisingly decent. Haven't read any of the books or knew much about it (bar the whole racist US kids tweeting about the character Rue being black). Good American rip-off of Battle Royale.

I think "not worth all the hype™" can be pulled out here.

I didn't think it was crap, just not as compelling as it could have been, with the cast and material at it's disposal.

I actually thought Alfredson's Let The Right One In was also not particularly substantial either. Sometimes looking classy and having a 'European' sensibility and flair to your direction holds sway over critics too easily.

I've never seen the original TV series. I can't recall them repeating it any time recently. Alec Guinness is one of the greatest screen actors ever though, so I'll get round to seeing it eventually.
