I do want Deus Ex but I might leave that as a present somebody can get me for my birthday.
I've only played Gears of War sparingly (I don't own it). I can't say I like it in the slightest. I don't have much interest in trying either!

Dead Island
Dead Island needed something ridiculous like 36 different problems to fix on day one.
Still at least they were ready to fix them, unlike say Fallout: New Vegas!
I don't have one yet, but it will probably end up having a hugely impressive, weird and wonderful library like the DS, so it's a no-brainer really.
There's not a big selection so far, but around Christmas all the big-hitters should be out like Mario Kart and the new Super Mario 3D Land and Kid Icarus, Luigi's Mansion 2, Paper Mario and Resident Evil Revelations should follow soon after.
If he's a handheld fan, then I assume he's a Nintendo fan. So the 3D re-makes of Ocarina Of Time and Starfox 64 are Must Gets™. Stuff like Pilotwings, Street Fighter, Dead Or Alive, Resident Evil Mercenaries, Ghost Recon and Ridge Racer should all be good, depending on his tastes and you can probably get them cheap now. I think PES is supposed to be good, but it's best to wait until the new version.
And Nintendogs + Cats if he's a gay.
