Party because journalists are just doing arty-farty stuff. Time was when a journalist had to have a knowledge of their subject areas and do research so that they could actually interview people with meaningful questions and pick up issues from the answers.

Also there is a warped idea of balance where they have to give every idiot air time to make sure their 'opinion' is put in the mix, no matter how ludicrous. There are many things that are not certain and where there needs to be a balance of opinion but some accepted facts - e.g. the world is a sphere and not flat - than unless someone comes up with some really big showstopper - e.g. pictures of the turtle the world is resting on - then leave their crap out of the debate.
