My father in law and brother in law are there today.
Maybe 20-20 could be in the Olympics. I generally think that the Olympics should be the pinnacle of any sport and thus football, golf and tennis shouldn't be in there. Same would apply to Cricket I reckon.
And basketball can sod off while we're there - although the 3 on 3 is fun.

Why shouldn't something like skateboarding be in yet horse dancing and the (impressive but) really fucking creepy synchronised swimming should be?

I do get the thought that the Olympics should be the pinnacle so no football, golf etc but I guess it all comes down to what makes money and brings crowds in, and the more established most popular ones will do that, and when the thing already costs eleventy bajillion to host no one is going to want to turn them away.

I don't think those should be either.

It's very random what is and isn't in the Olympics.

It does seem a bit random what is and isn't in there, as if they're trying to stick to "traditional" sports and then moving with the times and admitting some of the more peripheral sports but they can sometimes feel tacked on. But then is an Olympic sport really a thing outside of track and field? Maybe Javelin was the Skateboarding of Ancient Greece.

I give it 10 or 15 years before e sports are inducted.

I dont mind golf etc being in the olympics but i would change it so only amateurs can compete. As letters says, the olympics should be the pinnacle.

For amateur sport that would be the case. Take Olympic boxing, many go on to have successful professional careers but while amateurs, Olympic gold is the aim. Whereas for professional golfers, they’d rather a masters win I’d bet but for amateurs, Olympic gold would be top of the list.

    Yeah, it's a weird mix isn't it?

You have the boxing which as you say is an amateur competition but winners often go on to be professionals.
Then you have Tennis where every 4 years it almost becomes another competition on the professional tour.

    Odd.
