The percentages are not the issue as you know too. Less than 300k people put a PM in place just recently in a country with 65m people. The rules have been set so it stays that way. Democracy is mostly an illusion. 0.1% of the general population hold the levers of power in most societies and they in turn control the media and the access to the economy. If you dont think they way they insist you do then you arent just left alone, you are made to conform using state apparatus to ensure you do. Or otherwise. The truckers in Canada just found that out as well

Prolly would, tbf.
The truckers in Canada? They were treated with kid gloves. Their demands were the exact opposite of democratic principles and couldn’t even be met by the government they protested against because the U.S. was never going to open the border to the unvaccinated no matter what the Canadian government decided.
Had the truckers tried the same shit in most other countries, some of them would be going home in body bags.

I thought they were ridiculous people but I’m not sure if freezing their bank accounts was exactly treating them with kid gloves.
The response to Covid by American and Canadian governments absolutely feeds this distrust of experts. The CDC for example made broad pronouncements about the need to mask toddlers based on evidence that fell apart under the most mild scrutiny (comparative outcomes that took no external factors into account)
Don’t get me wrong you’ll get people who will forever be contrarian no matter how well evidenced the rationale behind decision making is, but even here there was a load of nonsense at times. The apocalyptic forecasts for how the Omicron variant would lead to hospitalisation and death based on total reliance on a worst case scenario, scant evidence of how it would affect a population vaccinated multiple times and ignoring how it barely did anything in South Africa after letting rip amongst an admittedly younger but largely unvaccinated populace.
If Covid was a dress rehearsal for how we’d deal with a genuinely deadly pandemic like H1-N5 we fucked up so badly it’s untrue, mainly because the experts lacked the humility to admit they were dealing with a novel virus that they could only guess at what would happen and treating any skepticism with disdain only delivered people into the welcoming arms of the grifters
That’s a different argument. But you had a few hundred people causing major economic damage (in addition to that by the governments) by virtue of protesting with 18 wheelers.
Protest for sure, but with a truck? Fuck that.
And it shouldn’t have come to that. They got off lightly compared to what would’ve happened in most other countries.
Imagine even trying to do that south of the border?

Gawd bless ‘em!
Erm….BLM radicals have set cities ablaze from Portland, Oregon to Oshkosh, Wisconsin and many of those people were never arrested
Not to mention how many of the Capitol rioters got off Scott free, so yes law enforcement can be more draconian in the states but just as often you can get away with all kinds of criminal shit.
Plus look at the oil protesters blocking major public highways, none of them are having their bank accounts frozen
