It’s not the Middle Ages anymore

The boy has had a cough for the last week.
He's not been that ill but a bit under the weather and we kept him off school yesterday to see a doctor. They gave him some antibiotics, he has a chest infection.
It made me think of your post - back in the day he'd have either just got better or...not.
In one of Bill Bryson's books he reflects on this, how in the early 1920s someone could cut their finger, get an infection and then just die.
The context is how what with bacteria developing immunity, that could well happen again soon.
