Finally Watched One Day in October

Quite surprised given that it was on Channel 4, that it wasn’t presented as act of heroic struggle. But seriously the real takeaway is how badly the Israeli government, the army and security forces fucked up. People in Kibbutz Be’eri left to fend for themselves for eight hours, when it’s less than half an hour away from Tel Aviv.
The other takeaway is that the residents there were lefty peaceniks, now many have adopted the posture of “it’s them or us”. Guy had to watch whilst his wife and his son slowly died in front of him, after they were peppered with bullets and slowly burnt alive/asphyxiated in an ineffective bomb shelter.

Watched Season 1 and thought it was brilliant. Taking a break before resuming.

Watched season 1 of some show on some streaming platform. It was epic. Took 36 hours but what the fuck, it's only my life. So good, the drama, the acting. There were these two homos that wanted to adopt a tranny OAP who thought he was a baby, but the cock op went wrong and he died on the table. OMFG, the tragedy. But then these two lesbos turned up and convinced the homos that having kids perpetuates the patriarchy and the transition from tragedy to rebellion and sticking it to the man (or however he/she/they identify as) was banging. I was with them, in the room, prime time drama. Then they all went and had anal sex in a non-gender bathroom, and invited children to watch. Just hoping the fact it lost millions of quid won't mean season two is scuppered by the racist misogynists.

    Watched the latest Taskmaster series.

I'm not a fan of Rosie Jones' stand up because her condition makes it hard for her to do things like timing which are pretty essential for it, but she really thrives in an environment like TM.

I particularly enjoyed her dynamic with Jack Dee

The type of task obviously had to be adjusted so that physical ability wasn't really a part of it which did slightly detract from it for me, but overall it was very fun.

Obviously there are those, including some on here, who are never going to give anything containing her a chance because she's a disabled woman and behaving like anything other than a vile cunt when discussing somebody with those descriptors would represent a battle lost in the culture war in their minds.

To those people (and we all know who they are), do us all a favour and don't waste your time replying to this. Everyone already knows what you think.

If you're not one of those people, you just weren't a fan of her until now: I'd give the season a shot.

Hadn't heard of the other 3 before but Salzmann and Sidi I thought were fantastic as well. Babatunde was the only one I couldn't really get on with.

The hotdog thing was a good idea, but really the contestants should've been able to read the task before putting the suit on because it just ended up being pot luck.

Best tv program I’ve watched this year was Mr Inbetween, a comedy series about an Australian hit man who is also a single father and carer to a brother with MND.

It’s both funny and dark, and it’s actually genuinely moving and sad at times (part spoiler - last episode of series 2)

    Highly recommend

Some people, maybe. Personally...I just don't find her funny. Which is a bit of an issue with a comedian. I actually think it's because she's a disabled woman that she's on TV.
Were she able bodied with that quality of material she wouldn't have made it, imo. The fact she has feels like pandering. Obviously comedy is subjective.
Dismissing people who don't like her as it being because she's a disabled woman is a bit lazy - not saying that doesn't apply to anyone but I think most people just don't find her funny. Comedy relies on clear diction and good timing, she has neither. She can't help it, obviously, but I can't help my height - it's not discrimination that I never made it in the NBA.

She was on Call The Midwife, a show I've long since abandoned but MrsL still watches. I made a point of watching that to see if she was better as an actress - she is, I thought she was quite good in that. So she does seem to have some talent, I'm just not convinced it's in comedy. I have fallen down a Taskmaster rabbit-hole this year, having never watched before. I've watched all the series on Netflix and have now had to switch to streaming the newer ones on Channel 4. I will watch the series with Rosie Jones when I get there, or try to. There have been other people I don't particularly like as comedians (I'm looking at you, Sarah Millican), who were good value on the show. There was one task where they had to write and perform a song and she had clearly been scarred by an ex-partner telling her she couldn't sing. I mean, she doesn't have a great voice but it was OK and she was quite emotional when she was given 5 points - I actually found that quite touching.

Whilst it’s not Rosie Jones’ fault that she has an annoying voice, that’s a result of being deprived oxygen in the womb. But the fact remains that her voice is annoying, and whilst it’s entirely possible that this is depriving me of brilliant comedic stylings, the likelihood is that she’s no better than the majority of female comedians out there. And the kindest thing to say about them is meh

There are a few good ones. Quite like Sara Pascoe and Katherine Ryan
There are others who are better as comedy actresses.

I was trying to be as clear as possible — perhaps I failed — that it's perfectly fine not to like her comedy. I don't particularly like her stand-up, but I don't like Greg Davies' stand-up either. He's still great on Taskmaster and so's she.

That's my main point. If you didn't watch TM because you weren't a fan of Greg Davies' appearances elsewhere, you're potentially missing out on something you'd actually enjoy.

    Same goes for her.
