Hitch it. These days especially. Look reasonably respectable. From London is awkward but if you get on the South Circular and after that the M2 it's plain sailing. If you have a board marked "Dover" and a board marked "Canterbury" for when you get closer you will get there in not far off the same time as a train I would reckon.

So far i have train, getting kidnapped and hitching.
Good suggestions and will be taken under consideration.
Going there for the Kent University Summer Ball next friday.
If a cheap fare is the prime consideration, try National Express who go there from Victoria Coach Station. Dunno about Megabus.
Don't hitch there in a penguin suit! Sounds like coach from Victoria might be best bet...
Just checked National Express and coaches from Victoria. They have only the one coach that day to Kent and thats after the time im supposed to be there.
Its only a tenner as well but the timings wrong.
Taxis not out of the question as it'll only take an hour or so by car to get there but fuck knows how much that will cost
Train is your friend bruv. Wouldn't be able to tell you of any details though coz I don't go down them endz.
Train is my preferred option as well but like you, ive never been down there so no idea where to get one from and where to get off.
Will have to research this
